P&O Cruises new ship, 'Ventura' was named on 16th April 2008 by Dame Helen Mirren. Two members of the royal marines were also on hand to smash the bottle - apparentally it is bad luck if, during the naming ceremony of a cruise ship, that the bottle does not smash, it brings bad luck - has this actually been previously proven?

I read about this in the paper. I think i'm right in saying that one P&O Cruise ship bottle didn't smash, either Aurora or Oriana and apparently the ship hasn't had the best of luck...
Don't think I believe it myself , but who knows...
Think it was the Aurora that had it - was it Aurora that had the outbreak of the noro virus?

There has to be some truth behind it...
Princess Anne couldn't break the champaign bottle, maiden voyage was aborted after 18 hours due to engine trouble, she damaged her propellors during a rescue mission in the South China Sea in March 01, she broke an engine casing (at anchor!) in the Med in July 03, Norwalk outbreak in November 03, and she was supposed to do the 05 world cruise...but only went around the Isle of White after her propulsion motors started causing trouble....
Not a very good record is it? That said, she has gotten on better since 2005....
