Title: Additional Sailings from Newhaven/Dieppe
Description: Good news!

meechingman - December 24, 2007 09:51 AM (GMT)
Transmanche/LD has just announced that as of January 7th next year, there will be three round trip sailings each day in the off-peak season. This is in response to a continuing demand for freight spaces on the route.

I have to say that I'm not surprised, judging by the number of lorries that I've seen at the port recently. It's also good to see some of the old names from the Sealink/Stena days running through the port again.

Of course, if the trend continues, and traffic grows further, there might even be a need for a third ship sometime.

You're sounding a bit like a lorry enthusiast there! :D

It's good to see Newhaven isn't getting forgotten, as it did seem to be when Hoverspeed had finished, and when Sardina Vera and Dieppe were operating.

Has the terminal building been rebuilt yet?

Lorry enthusiast - I think not! But there was a time when I could name just about every haulage firm that ran through the port. I knew most of the drivers 'cos I saw them on every trip they made for years. Comes from working in the freight terminal that's open 24/7.

Nothing on the terminal yet, but they are currently working on resurfacing part of the lorry park to make more space. Most truckers I knew would turn up pretty near the check-in deadline and didn't go in the terminal much anyway. For pax and motorists, that's a different story.
