Hi all (if there's anyone left....)

Just looked down at the harbour here at Newhaven. 7S is sitting there waiting to take out this evening's sailing. Nothing unusual in that, but the volume of traffic for tonight was amazing. You've got lorries all the way from the ramp to the lorry park (which is chock a block full), then right out through the port entrance, onto the main road and across the level crossing! :D

I haven't seen that since the 'good old days' when I worked there, and it's interesting to see some of the old names coming back, like TFE and DeRijke, as well as the inevitable Dentressangle and Transalliance.

All it needs is for TMF/LD to land one of the big semitrailer operators like SCAC or TOE, and lure part of their traffic back to Newhaven, and Uncle Louis will have it made.

PS. Just looked at FoNE, Norman Spirit is off service for refit and there are extra N/D services. This may explain some of the traffic, but if hauliers REALLY prefer Pompey, they'd swap carriers for a sailing or two.

I would of expected TM to be making money on mostly lorries though, having such low fares. They obviously put a lot of money into freight advertising.

Nice to hear 7S is loading up well. Once the work at the Beddingham crossing is finished it should make the road to Newhaven even better. Although I suppose when the work on the Hindhead bypass is finished the Pompey road will be brilliant.

These extra sailings meant that Cotey met 7S off Newhaven harbour this morning. No camera in the car, dammit. :angry: Will have on Saturday if it happens again. Haven't seen any photos of the two sisters together. Pity TMF couldn't get Fotoflite to snap them crossing in mid-channel at full speed like they did with the V twins back in the early 60's.
