I followed this up with Kevin Hammond and he asked me to provide the following information:

QUOTE
I am aware that some members have unfortunately been required by Australia Post to attend the local Post Office and pay an additional fee to collect their mail out.

Before mailing our staff member Tracey checked with the Casula Post office where the entire mail out was posted regarding the appropriateness of the one stamp for the size mailout and weight.  Both Tracey and the volunteer accompanying her were advised that one normal stamp would suffice as the envelope and weight were within the specified limit.

Subsequent to this we have had brought to our attention a few instances where someone else in Australia Post has taken a contrary view.  As strange as this may seem it does happen this way unfortunately.  We can only act in accordance with the advice given.  If someone else down the line in the postal process takes a different point of view we cannot control that.  Out of a mailout of some 300 envelopes only a small proportion it would seem have been effected by this lack of consistency within Australia Post.

Unfortunately there is not much else we can do.  There are an abundance of cases where the mailout has gone through the system without incident or interference and has been delivered in the normal course of events.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

Kind Regards

Kevin
