guys
Terry Lamb put an idea into my head when he ask what we call our little supporter group?
i was thinking something like the MAGPIE MANIACS.
but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The Magpie Maniac's sounds good mate. How's about The Magpie Mob, The Mongrel Magpies, the Mental Magpies, The Magpie Mentality? Just a few suggestions to get the mind's on here thinking ;)

I still like the old "Magpie Diehards"
but it might have a bad rep these days?

There was a bit of a discrepency over some fund raising that was carried out.
I personally like the passion the name has, and love the logo!
I would love to get a shirt made up with it on it.
mag1 - March 1, 2009 08:09 AM (GMT)
Here we go!!!
Last time it was a jersey and Igot on board, along with others.
Why not galahs, kick it around, I'm sure we'll get the numbers to do a run.
The past is the past!
galahs - March 1, 2009 09:07 AM (GMT)
Don't get me started or it will happen!
galahs - March 1, 2009 09:59 AM (GMT)
See now you've got me excited!!!
Gobbs - March 1, 2009 10:17 AM (GMT)
The Magpie Diehards didn't care too much for members and fans that had a vested interest in the football club's NRL team. Perhaps what Craig is trying to muster up is the way to go. Something fresh, something new.
Magpie - March 1, 2009 11:22 PM (GMT)
Not all members felt that way..
More for the preservation of Western Suburbs.....

exactly!

THANKS TERRY LAMB YOU REALLY STARTED SOMETHING HERE.
but this time if we rehash the diehards it not about money its about getting to the games and having fun supporting our great club.
we might need to get permission to use the diehards name and logo.
Dallas - March 3, 2009 04:29 AM (GMT)
No permission needed - go for it. Getting permission might well be a "can we do it" but theres no reason why it cant be done.
Craig - can you contact me by PM, I have the original You're in Magpie Country Now banner still in Campbelltown - it might as well go into the archives where its safe instead of just sitting at home.

Okay Galahs
You know we can get the numbers. You did such a great job with the jerseys.
galahs - March 3, 2009 11:48 AM (GMT)
I think I'll get a prototype made to test it out before asking others to pay for them.
archivistcraig - March 3, 2009 11:55 PM (GMT)
galahs - March 4, 2009 01:04 AM (GMT)
It's happening again!!! :cstars:
Staks - March 4, 2009 09:35 AM (GMT)
I'll give the shirt a miss. Good luck with it though.
I like the Magpie Maniacs name though.
galahs - March 4, 2009 10:04 AM (GMT)
"Maniacs" to me sounds 'soft'. I prefer something abit more hard edged, something that instills fear into the opposition.

: But what ever floats your boat I guess.

galahs - March 5, 2009 06:38 AM (GMT)
I'll get you Craig!!!
Magpie Slayer... why do we want to slay magpies?
Dallas - March 5, 2009 12:36 PM (GMT)
My arguement is that people know who the diehards are, and were mentioned all over the place and well known as the supporters group for the Magpies.
The hill is known as Diehards Hill as far as Im concerned and will always be in my eyes.
Say what you want about certain fund-raising activities, if it wasn't for the diehards, the club wouldnt have the group of supporters it does at the moment - these blokes stuck with the club at its lowest Ebb. No one came to games, no one could even BUY jerseys, and Mr Waite had a massive up hill battle to get as far as he did.
Now, we are on the up and up, Mr Waite is doing a fantastic job on the board, and the supporters group is growing.
I think the thing to remember, is that the original diehards started as a renegade group to the Western Suburbs Supporters Club. They wernt happy with how that was going, so they formed their own.
Where ever there is a supporters club that is external to the actual club, there will always be these opportunity to not nessecarly do things 100% right. Thats the nature of the beast. The diehards were created to keep the bastards honest (at the time of creation). Remember the group started forming in 1999, it wasnt until the next year that the Magpie Diehards actually started to grow. By then it was too late and the horse had bolted.
I have lots of good memories of the Diehards - Bus Trips to away games in the old "Islamic" bus - it used to be owned by some islamic bloke who left his head doobie thing in it when he sold it. It was a heap of junk - had holes in the floor, but somehow someone still managed to get a speeding ticket on the way back to Campbelltown from Canberra going down the big dipper. It wasnt me!
Ask anyone involved with opposition clubs to Wests from 2000 - 2006, and Im sure they will remember the diehards - their loud chants, their passion their pride.
I was proud to be a member of a group of people who had the passion of the Magpies, and they are days I will never forget.
Like I say, I wasnt privy to behind the scenes stuff - I didnt care really. All I know is that the Diehards did alot for the club in keeping the passion during the lowest of the lows, for that reason, and that reason alone I vote 1 to reserecting the Magpie Diehards as a supporters group - a Coitery as the AFL calls them. That is a group with its own board and chair. The chair is elected by the board of the football office, and the board members recommended by the members of the group.
Thats my stance on the matter - and to be a member you MUST be a member of the football club.
archivistcraig - March 5, 2009 10:30 PM (GMT)
so we can count you in dallas.
galahs - March 7, 2009 02:16 PM (GMT)
Sounds like it
fasted - March 7, 2009 09:39 PM (GMT)
I'm with you Dallas. We're not Magpie Mincers or Magpie Slayers and all that other BS. Once a Magpie always a Magpie and once a Magpie Diehard always a Magpie Diehard
tecee - March 9, 2009 02:25 AM (GMT)
I agree that the name should be the Diehards because of the history of us going all around the grounds and chanting for Wests. I was a member of the Diehards and you couldn't wish for a more bonza bunch of blokes and sheillas to watch a game with.
If the Diehards start again, all well and good, but if not, the main thing is for everyone to get to games and cheer on the bestest footy team ever.
C'arn Wests!!!!!!!!!!!!!
