Title: Sponsorship
Description: In these hard economic times.

galahs - January 30, 2009 11:12 AM (GMT)
I read in the Wests Ashfield Leagues magazine that Rebel Sport are withdrawing from all forms of corporate sponsorship for an indefinite period.

Also other sponsors from 2008 are reviewing their ability to continue their contributions.

So if you know any one who would benefit by promoting their company and becoming corporate partners with the Wests Magpies in 2009 give the office a call, email or pop into the office.

This also makes it extremely important for us supporters to help the club out by purchasing merchandise, attending club functions or even making donations of cash, in-kind products or time to the club.

You sure those contact details are correct ?

galahs - January 30, 2009 03:36 PM (GMT)
As far as I know. Why?

ianse - January 30, 2009 09:27 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking of being a company for my truck, but I don't think Wests would benefit much from one truck...unless I can afford to change my tautliner curtains to a magpie themed one advertising the club.

It is certainly true that businesses are finding it very hard to justify football sponsorship in their business plans. Our revenue looks like being significantly reduced this year as everyone tightens their belts. If you do have a lead call Kevin and let him know. You don't need to be a huge company to get involved with us.

As Galahs has said we'll also need our supporters more than ever. We have lost a significant number of members over the past year, many simply seem to be because our contact details for them are out of date. If you know a Magpie fan please encourage them to come to as many games as they can and join the club. Also bring them by the merchandise tent so I can help kit them out.

Despite the bad news we'll have a very good side on the field this year and if we stick together and support them we'll get through keep the Mighty Magpies flying high.

Whats you thoughts Andrew if we have a Platnium Magpie Membership for say $100 a year.

For your extra money you could get something like get a signed NSW Cup team photo at the end of the year and a thankyou certificate?

Andrew Waite - January 31, 2009 01:06 AM (GMT)
I'm not against the idea, just concerned that our membership base is too small to support it in any meaningful way. Would love to be wrong though.

Staks - January 31, 2009 02:58 AM (GMT)
Is there any plans or strategy in place to increase membership numbers in the near future ?

If it was to go ahead, put me down for 2 :D :D

And talking of merchandise....how about some nice big official stickers to whack on our cars and trucks, might be nice bit of advertising if the truck travels to all parts of the city ;) :magpies:

Like what the Rabbitohs have

I see that wittle white wabbit every where!

All I know is we need to do something to inject some cash into our club if we are going to survive for another 100 years.

I seem to be in the same boat with those little rabbits they would make a good stew or two with the amount that I see these days.
I would definately buy several stickers if they were available.

Also a NEW list of merchandise would be of help to everybody.

Go the magies in 09.

galahs - February 1, 2009 12:50 AM (GMT)
So what sort of sticker would we want?

A magpie on its own?

The actual emblem?

The word WESTS ?

tecee - February 1, 2009 03:26 AM (GMT)
As a Magpie supporter only, I'd like to see a bumper sticker with a Magpie and Wests on it. Or alternately to get people to remember that "Tigers" is only a nickname for the joint venture you should print out stickers which simply say "GO WESTS" , "WESTS TO WIN", etc etc, with a little bit of orange around the border or something.

C'arn Wests!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go You Mighty Magpies!!!!!!!!!

moshmagpie - February 1, 2009 03:54 AM (GMT)
I think stick to the black +white with Wests Magpies wording and logo.Put me down for at least 1\2 dozen of those if they eventuate. :magpies: Could we do something similar to the retro jersey idea +find out what would be a minimum amount to order. We could then make pledges to how many we want each till we get to that amount. :magpies: :magpies: :magpies:

I've had exactly the same thought. Those bunnies are ubiquitous. You see them everywhere and I haven't been to Redfern or surrounds much since I finished uni.

I think the great thing about them is that they are just the bunny. No text, no logo, not even a hint of the club colours. Just that rabbit in monochrome - but everyone knows what it means. It's brilliant. I'm sure that Magpie sitting on his branch would make an equally striking image.

My thoughts exactly!

but f we were to just get the magpie done, would we get it black on white, or black on clear???

And what size.

I really think we could capitalise on the "lone mapie" image a little more.

Its the direct link to the Wests Tigers jersey, maybe through our merchandise we could turn it into our own Lacoste

or Penguin label

and make some subtle street and casual wear that doesn't scream out "footy merchandise!!!"

The lone Magpie on the branch gets my vote. But then having a few different options wouldn't go astray either. The more merrier. Why stop at one? Let's get a few happening. A lone Magpie with the words 'Wests Magpies' under it would be suffice, as would a Wests Tigers logo saying as TeeCee suggested 'Go Wests' reminding everyone that yes we are the 'Wests' Tigers and that branding is important to the fans, the Macarthur region at the Football Club profile as a Joint-Venture partner.

Everyone who passes a vehicle with one of those Rabbitoh stickers on their back windscreen automatically associates that car, person, family as South Sydney Fans. The power of imagery and visualisation is enormous for brand awareness and recognition. The public are able to identify the Rabbitoh with ease. There's absolutely no reason why they'd struggle to identify the Magpie. Another great initiative to help preserve the image and profile of our great club. Expose the prestigious bird to the absolute max!!

moshmagpie - February 1, 2009 10:59 PM (GMT)
What about a black +white Magpie on the perch with Wests written in orange? :magpies:

ianse - February 1, 2009 11:20 PM (GMT)
maybe printing the website address would be good also.

Souths can get away with saying nothing cause they are in the NRL and information is readily available.
We don't have that luxury, the NSW Cup and it's participants aren't as well known so telling them the web address may direct them there where we can tell them more about how well we are surviving.

Having the web site address on the bumper sticker wouldnt hurt at all it would make people look and see whats going on with the team and of course the club as well. :magpies: :magpies:

There is a mob called "leadlight design" which sell a Magpie on a perch design, looks good. Got one on my front window with lots of other Magpies stuff out the front.
