Who have Wests retained from the 2008 squad ?
Will Mighty Mouse still be at Wests ?
Will Skando get a run ?
etc
etc

Does anyone have any news ? Or am I talking to myself !
archivistcraig - November 12, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
nick taylor at the dogs 2009
shannon gallant at magpies 2009
galahs - November 12, 2008 08:04 AM (GMT)
Good luck to Nick. Shame the Wests Tigers didn't throw him a suitable contract. Big loss.
Thank God we retained Shannon Gallant. He bleeds Black and White
Staks - November 12, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
Wests are rumoured to be after one of the Wentworthville props. I don't really remember them but I think it might either be Broderick Wright OR Jeremy Latimore. Don't know much about them.

| Mounties Jim Beam Cup forward Justin Coveney has signed with the Western Suburbs Magpies State Cup team for 2009. The Chipping Norton resident and lawyer is training with the squad at Hillier Oval next Tuesday, November 18, 5pm. Coveney, 24, impressed the Magpies with his relentless displays in the Jim Beam Cup in 2008 earning him a contract. |
Anyone heard of him ?
galahs - November 13, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
No but I welcome him to the Magpies :correct:
Andrew Waite - November 13, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Shameful you don't remember Coves. Played junior reps for us and had a few games in Premiers for us. Used to be on the wing as a youngster but played back row for us in his last season and has been playing there for Mounties. Could find himself up front as he's bulked up to a solid size. Is honest as the day is long and it will be great to have him back in the side. Welcome back home Coves!
Staks - November 14, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
Nope don't remember him. Welcome back though.
Have most of the 2008 squad been retained ?
Andrew Waite - November 14, 2008 12:33 AM (GMT)
I believe we've retained most with Nick being the only loss from the core of the side I'm aware of. Kevin's beavering away tying up contracts still so I can't give you any more than that. We did have open trials and have about 4 guys trialling from that.
Staks - November 19, 2008 08:31 AM (GMT)
Do the Wests Tigers have any say in any new signings ? Could do with a prop or three !!
Noticed that Moujalli, Nuuasala and Shackleton are still at the Jets. You would of thought the Wests Tigers would have gone after one or two of these monsters !!

One would think that I know I would and more. :o

gallant, n. waters, b. waters, trimarchi, herekotukutuku are all definates at the magpies in 2009. what about cutler, rysko, akeripa, rosser and the likes? who else is in the squad that was not there this year?
Gobbs - November 25, 2008 12:46 PM (GMT)
Akeripa should be a priority. If anything, this kid deserves a WT's contract. He's got more potential and promise than a few current outside backs currently playing for Wests Tigers. A no nonsense, hard running, honest toiler who really set the Maggies alight with the ball in hand and some room to move. I hope Sheens gives Akeripa a go.
If he's fair dinkum about the statement he made last August regarding "a few juniors who had been given an opportunity have failed to live up to expectation and will be tapped on the shoulder". Well Coach Sheens, less talk, more action. Get Akeripa, Gallant, Waters, Rysko in there. They won't let anyone down.
Staks - November 26, 2008 01:31 AM (GMT)
The majority of the 2008 squad will still be around in 2009. Taylor is at the Dogs. I heard that Nua Alone is at the Sharks and Trent Cutler isn't sure if he wants to play again. The rest should be still in the squad when not called up to the Wests Tigers.
Mataka and Dunley will most likely come in the squad also as they are to old for NYC now.
Add in the new recruits and all looks good for another successful season. B)
Just hope they are practicing taking kickoff returns !! :ph43r:

His profile on WT site has him born 19/10/88. He is 20 already. He is also part of WT Top 25.

Was told Toa Asa is back. Would be a bonus if he is.
Also Charlie Herotukutuku from Norths last season. handy hooker/half to have.
Coming together well Kevin, well done.

I hope Asa's defence has improved.... actually I hope the whole teams defence improves!!
Sounds like a lot of healthy competition for places in the team. Especially in the forwards.

Definately young enough to go around again in the 20s must be a typo on the bio.

You sure your not thinking about Simon Dwyer ?
Gobbs - November 27, 2008 12:21 PM (GMT)
Hopefully Dunley has a strong off/pre-season, his trial form is good and he can keep John Morris as far away from the No.7 Jersey as possible for Wests Tigers.

dunley is definately to old for the 20s. he played with my brother when they were kids. born in 1988.
Staks - December 1, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Well from all the rumored information the team should look something like this (depending on WT selection) :
1 Gallant
2 McDonnell
3 Davis
4 Akeripa
5 Tagive
6 Hereteketuku
7 N Waters
8 Rosser
9 Dunley
10 Rysko
11 Young
12 Vlaciky
13 Trimarchi
14 Stolk
15 Soultan
16 Bennett
17 Asa Toa
18 Coveney
19 Mataka
20 B Waters
21 Franks
+
Laurie, Ryan, Gibbs, Fulton, Galea might even play a few games for the Magpies depending on who super coach picks for WT.
I probably forgot someone :cstars:
Are the Fijians still around ?
dodge - December 5, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
Not a bad side there but i can promise you if B.Waters is fit with his injury he will not be no. 20 i know before he missed last year with his knee a lot of clubs showed plenty of interest in him. Pretty sure it would be 6. Dunley 7. B.Waters 9. N.Waters
galahs - December 5, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
I think your right dodge, but it will lll depend on if and when he takes the field again. Hipefully sooner than later.
mag1 - December 5, 2008 08:43 AM (GMT)
Just don't underestimate Charlie H.
Good footballer who plays well in the 6,7 or 9.
Good acquisition for the club, don't worry!
Staks - December 5, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
I got big wraps on Brendan Waters. Watched a lot of Flegg a couple of years ago and his game really impressed me. He was a standout in my opinion and a player of the future.
I don't understand though how his injury has taken this long to heal or to progress ?

normy - December 11, 2008 09:10 AM (GMT)
sheens wants to use n. waters as a backup for farah. he will play 9 unless the halves are struggling imo. b. waters will be 7 for sure. leo coached the flegg team that he dominated in and has since had high expectations on him. charlie or dunley at 6, the one to miss out will be 14 imo. is bennett still around?
1. gallant
2. tagive
3. davis
4. akaripa
5. mc donnell
6. dunley
7. b. waters
8. rosser
9. n. waters
10. asa
11. rysko
12. vlaciky

1 thing i like about this years squad is we have plenty of depth, So if we do get a few injuries we have pretty experience in there to come in, looking forward to 09 and a big year from the pies!!! but was just thinking who will be the nrl fullback? hopefully mighty mouse he played good when he got the chance last year in nrl so ill put my money on him.

i heard rhys pritchard from the jets is now with us, he played wing and center,,promising footballer....watched him play on the central coast when he was younger,he was then playing 5/8, he has the goods..
