hey again everyone. I have a feeling that some sort of wheeled transportation will make my life a lot easier up there, and besides, the area is beautiful so i'll get to see more of it this way.

Is there a bike rental place anywhere near vindolanda/once brewed that any of you would recommend in terms of a) price and b.) quality?

i see that the once brewed hostel has a "bike shop". is it any good?

Hi Rob - I don't know of anywhere near Once Brewed/Vindolanda that rents bikes out. I am going at the end of June though so I will look to see what the Bike Shop has to offer. Transport is useful and a bike is a good way to get around. There is also the local bus and I love walking. You will probably find that there are other diggers with cars when you are there and most I am sure would be willing to offer you lifts if you need them.

Unfortunately the Once Brewed does not hire out bikes. I don't know if the bike shop is any good as I did not have mine with me. There were quite a few people without cars whilst I was digging and they all managed to get lifts to and from the site so I think you should be OK. You just need to ask around at tea break.
