thanks for the help on the food, i just have one more question. I'll be in Area A this summer, and i was wondering how tall a pair of waterproof boots i would need for that. shin-high? knee-high? thigh-high?
thanks again
Well, it is Northumberland so a diving bell would not be out of order :D or a divers dry-suit
And a few flares to signal where you went under wouldn't hurt.
Seriously, the boot of choice seems to be the good old Wellington, which comes up to just below the knee. If the water in a trench gets deeper than that, they start pumping it out.
Oh, and definitely bring a waterproof raincoat. Light rain doesn't stop the digging. They only call it off if it's really pouring or there's thunder!

And of course be prepared to step out of the trench and leave a wellington behind in the mud. Practice standing on one foot as you try to retrieve your footwear.......

This year - as today there was snow in them there hills, the sheep are facing North north East in November and the Grass is growing quicker to the left - I predict a long, hot, dry summer lasting from April to October.
