four of us are coming up to dig next July - we had a hard time finding a suitable self-catering cottage last year - has anyone got any recommendations?

Faith:

I found a B&B in Redburn in 2006, and I believe several are located there. The village is about 2-3 miles south of Vindolanda, so an easy drive. I actually bicycled up and down each day, which was good exercise. Bus services run to Hexham, where I found two very tasty Indians (restaurants, that is), and to Haltwhistle and Carlisle.

My wife & I stayed at a self-catering "across the wall" this year that we loved. It's called Scotchcoulthard, and is a series of terraced self-catering buildings all attached to a working farm. Very private, very clean, and quite reasonable. The only downside is that it's quite remote--it's at the very end of a 4-mile one-lane track snaking through working fields. But they've got a pool, laundry room, and a pot-bellied pig that wanders around the backyard in the mornings. More than made up for it in our book. :)

The twice brewed website should be fixed now.
Also there is a new website

www.hadrianswall-accommadation.co.uk also contains (along with the pub - shamless plug) 3 other sites that offer self-catering, B&B etc etc accommadation.

Hope this helps
