Two American's looking to spend a week or two on a dig while in the area.
Any suggestions? We were looking at the hostel but we are seasoned tent people although only in the USA.

The current election would seem to provide a sufficiency of dirt, but it might be running low by May of 09!

You would have a grand time at Vindo, weather permitting of course. I dug there in May and it was very nice.

If you fancy tenting there is a campground about a half mile up the road from Twice Brewed. I have heard folks speak well of it. But that would be close to a three mile walk to Vindo if you are hoofing it. I stayed at Twice Brewed Inn and it was a nice stroll. If driving of course no problem.

It is fairly empty countryside, quite the difference from Metropolitan London. So wheels would be a plus, give you a chance to see a little more of the surrounding lands. Me I just dig, drink ale and sleep.

We are digging with Andy from June14th to July2nd and will be staying in our caravan at the Hadrian's Wall camp site. They also have a camping barn which is very much like a youth hostel. see their website for details. We are always happy to give lifts to up to three fellow diggers - mud welcome!
Hope this helps some of you.
