I'm new on here so hello!

Well I didn't think to get myself in gear earlier and now it looks like I have missed digging dates for 2008! Will the 2009 ones come out in early Nov again do we think?

Just been looking at the YHA accomm...seems pretty pricey for a shared room! I thought hostels did single rooms in the 21st C.... (Can't be inflicting my snoring on others!) Any ideas of websites or places I could look at/search for to start planning my budget? (And getting butt into gear much earlier this year!)

Hey Diggus. Welcome to the forum! Sorry you missed 08. Yeah, popular place, seems to get more so each year!

And since the Hadrian's Wall hiking trail opened a few years ago the B&Bs, hostels, etc. have started filling up a lot faster too. (And supply/demand keeps pushing the rates up.) There's tons of Web sites to check out accommodation, but one that always seems to have one of the biggest and most current lists is www.hadrians-wall.org. Just click on the "Accommodation" link on the left, click the type of accommodation, pick the part of the wall where you'll want to stay in "Select an Area" (probably Section 2, since that's Vindolanda's area), and you'll see a nice batch of options.

There's also quite a few camp sites and caravan parks in the area. I've not gone that route, but folks who are into it say that they're cheap, friendly, & safe as a rule.

Good luck, and keep an eye on the forum. Been slow here the past couple of months, but with the season starting soon that's about to change!

Many thanks for that, I will get to it and have a look. I will have another look at the Once Brewed Youth Hostel too....haven't shared a room like that since Girl Guides circa 1982!!! :o

I hate the non-digging season, kicking heels and revising for Archaeology exams, so I thought other folk would be on the forum more in the "off" season...hopefully meet more of you all soon!

Email through your email address to info@vindolanda.com to be included on the automailing list for the applications going live in November this year for 2009 if you have not done so already. The season next year will be April - September and we will be offering some 600 places on the excavations. As for what we will be doing, more of the same in the vicus and a nice barrack block inside the fort, maybe even a 30 seater toilet block if we get lucky.
