Dear Excavation volunteers,Friends & supporters.

On behalf of The Vindolanda Trust, I would like to thank you all for your interest and involvement with our aims and objectives during 2007. Your contribution to our work is invaluable.

I know that many of you are aware of our £2.8 million Heritage Lottery Fund application and I am sad to report that we have been unsuccessful in our bid for funding. We know that our project to increase access, volunteer & education opportunities and public involvement at Vindolanda & The Roman Army Museum was very strong but we are also aware of the fierce competition for a limited amount of HLF funding.

That is now 'water under the bridge' and we look forward to 2008-2012 excavation programme and to welcoming both old and new hands to Vindolanda for another round of active archaeology at what we believe to be the most exciting Roman site in Britain.
