Title: Causeway House

SacoHarry - September 28, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
You know that charming, isolated thatch-roofed house along the Stanegate on your approach to Vindolanda? It's known as Causeway House, and was built in 1770. It's also the only remaining house in all Northumberland still thatched in the traditional, local heather. For decades (centuries?), the original heather lay beneath a later corrugated iron roof. Its well-preserved remains proved very useful in helping create an accurate restoration. The house is now maintained by the Landmark Trust and can be rented as a holiday cottage.

Thanks Harry,
I have always wondered who owned that house. It would be great to stay there some time. I'm going to check out the prices.
Kate.

I was thinking the same as you Kate. It would make a great base for digging but I dont know if I could cope with the long walk every morning and evening. Another problem is that Justin might pop in at 7am for a bacon butty and Andrew would probably drive past at high speed with a loud blast of his horn. Sorry chaps I didn't mean it!!!

Sausage sarnie would be good (with a bit if ketchup), I drive past at around 6:30am so I could pop in on the way to the office. Also some freshly queezed orange juice and some coffee would go down well, if your offering!

Hi Andy is "Queezed orange juice" regurgitated? Don't forget your apron and pink marigolds for the washing up
 :D

I couldn't stay at the Causeway House. I would be mightily tempted to see what may have once been out in the back lot! Will Vindolanda Trust be buying up the land around Causeway House too?! :P

Hi Matt any idea about when or if you are going to be able to get to V next year?
