Not really, I never found the need to. But, I looked at my ho-oh and decided that I should. Mostly because it's shiny.

Well you should look up each Pokemon that the Pokemon you have is good against and find out which one gives the EV points you want. You should level up by fainting those Pokemon. I don't personally EV train, I just train xD
