Physical Description (five sentence minimum):
Katherine is one of those women that look a little bit younger than their true age. Despite the fact she is 37, some people would give her about 30 years of age. This is due to the extensive care she gives to her appearance. Her upbringing having a lot to do with it, Katherine has a strict nutrition order she follows. She also takes care of her body as much as she can, always wearing stiff corsets. Naturally, she wants to be beautiful for herself, but even more to impress the people around her. Both of the reasons are equally enticing for Lady Lawley.

Katherine's face is heart-shaped, with high cheekbones. it is decorated by two big, almond shaped, emerald green eyes. They can flash, glint and glow as she tells them to. If one looks into her eyes, one would not be able to discern what emoion she is experiencing. Her nose is longish and a bit wider at the end. Just below it are her cupid lips. With lipstick, they are rosebud, but naturally they are a tad pale. She keeps her eyebrows neatly shaped. This picture is framed by a veil of wavy, ebony hair. Katherine takes special pride in her hair, and likes to let it fall freely down her back whenever it is appropriate and possible.

Katherine's skin is pale and smooth as thick cream. She does not spend much time in the sun, and whe she does, she carries a parasol, since it is not apt for a lady to have darker skin(by her upbringing). No blemish can be seen on her skin. It is also tight and not wrinkled, except for slight lines of worry on her forehead. Nearly nobody notices them, except for the Lady herself. Her figure is curvaceous, and she is far from being too thin. Yet she is slim. Her generous bosom leads to a thin waist, then wide hips, and legs. Long, slim and elegant, allowing her to move with perfect grace and charm, they are usually covered by dresses, even though she sometimes does want to show them, being quite proud of them.

Of course, she knows what looks good on her and has style. She enjoys showing decolletage, but she also knows how to dress properly and for the occasion. Whenever there is a dance or a party, she has to look her best. Wide gowns are her favorite kinds of dresses, but she sometimes resorts to typical whatever it is the latest fashion dicates. Tat part of her is simillar to her son; she does know how toenjoy all the pleasures of life Her favorite color combinations are black and white, red and white, and, of course, just red and black. She also like softer tones, like pink and green. Despite the fact she hardly needs it, she sometimes likes colors that make her look thinner.

Personality (eight sentence minimum):
Katherine could be called snobby. Actually, that word would describe her almost exactly. She is always curt, calm and with an arrogant or an offensive grin on her lips, as if wanting to show her view of the world. Even if she, for example, could not afford something, or would find it good, she would never admit that openly. She would remain calm and cold, as if it had not touched her or is not good enough for her. She would also never talk about financial difficulties in public-for the people, she is always rich. The image of her the public holds is very important to Katherine.

Katherine is a very intelligent woman. She also has a talent for business-she knows how to negotiate and get what she wants in the end. She can also calculate when risks are worth taking and when not, when an investment is useful or not, etc. She always stands firm on the ground-dreams and such are useless to her. She considers them childish and avoids them. In her opinion, you are supposed to do something, not dream about doing it or hope to do it one day. She is very ambitious and determined.

Katherine tries not to bother with anything that is not her business and that does not affect her-she believes helping others to be stupid, especially at your own expense. She believes every person to be capable of taking care of themselves and their own. If it is about children, she might make an exception, though, if the situation is pushing the very limits of extremes.

She is an independent person, however, certain aspects of 'modern' are indigestible to her. She finds them an embarrassment to both men and women. She thinks women have all the rights they need-them running around as outlaws or something simillar is something they made up because they are bored. If it was up to her, she’d send them all to work.
Katherine would never let a man nor a woman tell her what to do. Oh, she would lead some to believe they'd managed to order he around, but manipulation and deceit are her best friends. She is also very fiery and fierce tempered. Of course, she would never admit or show that.

History (ten sentence minimum):
Lady Katherine Hardacstle was born as the first and the only daughter to Lord Emmett Hardacstle and his wife Lady Harriet. She was also an only child, which had disappointed her parents a lot. Emmett had wanted an heir to carry on his name, and Harriet, submissive to her husband beyond limits, shared whatever desires he did. Upon the birth of a daughter, Emmett had cruelly mistreated his wife, abusing her both physically and mentally. He was more than well-aware of the kind of power he held over Lady Harriett. Instead of urging her to give him an heir, however, his behaviour had only brought Harriet to several miscarriages and a premature death at childbirth. Emmett had showed no signs of missing his wife; he'd always been the one to hide emotions, just like Katherine became later. He had only been satisfied that she'd finally given birth to a male child. That joy had lasted for a very short amount of time, though, since Nathaniel, Katherine's brother, died the very same day.

Katherine had been four years old at the time, not quite old enough to coprehend what was going on around her. Especially because she had spent very little if none of her time with her parents. Never even seeing Nathaniel, she hardly missed him and mourned for his death. She had mourned for her mother, though, and left the entire household astonished with her way of doing it. Katherine had not let out a single tear in front of anyone. In loneliness, she had wept, but for the public, she had kept a straight(even though a sad) face. Only then had a realization dawned upon her father; he had a daughter that was very much alike him...and that he could work with.

Over the years, Emmett Hardacstle turned his daughter into a ruthless woman, ready to step on everybody to reach her goals. He had not by any means spoiled her, in spite of the possibilities he had for that(he was rich). He taught her that her actions would always have reprecussions, unless she came to a position where she was the one controlling all means of reprecussions. Certain positions had certain levels of such control. You had to either act within them or not act within them and hide it masterfully. Katherine had also been thought how to perform the latter.

Other than being a shrewd and a calculating man, Emmett Hardcastle cared about tradition and manners just as well. Katherine had been raised to respect it, and he'd implated a strong sense of discerning proper from improper. She'd also inherited his snobbish characeristics, as for example utterly despising the mixing of nobility and poverty. Arrogance was another trait her father had passed down to her. Katherine has a habit of jutting out her chin when displaying the pride that had streamed through her veins ever since her birth.

The fact that she was a beautiful woman had also been seen as an advantage by Emmett. He'd taught Katherine to appreciate it, and to use it as a powerful weapon. She remained true to that when, in the fifteenth year of her life, she married Lord Elliott Lawley, of the Lawley fiefdom. It had been an arranged marriage. Elliott's father had been ill for quite some time, during which Emmett had done some calculating and realized that his son could've been a perfect opportunity for Katherine. Becoming a friend of Lawley's, he also was introduced to his son, and worked on meeting him with Katherine. Not to be obvious, since the old Lawley had a reputation for being able to smell such people, Emmett only arranged subtle meetings between Elliott and Katherine. His focus remained on becoming a friend of the old Lawley.

When the latter died, his son turned to Emmett for support in the situation he had found himself in. Somehow, Katherine miracolously 'appeared' where she should have, comforting him and being there for him. It did not take long for him to propose, making her situated for life. Emmett died a year later, living long enough to see the birth of his grandchild, Darien. At his deathbed, he told his daughter how proud she had managed to make him and how glad he was Harriet had given birth to her. Of course, he would have preferred a son...but he had not made any mention of that.

Katherine had never loved her husband, but their marriage did bring her vast well-being, and she was not about to argue with that. He had fallen in love with her, just like her mother had fallen in love with her father. There was not a thing in the world he could've denied her.

In spite of all of that, Katherine had had plenty of lovers.

Now, her father had taught her to discern proper from improper. But not in an ethical way. More in the calculating, arrogant and the snobby way. Even in her earlier youth, Katherine had quite enjoyed the company of fiery young men. She had kept it well-hidden from Emmett, of course. Just as she kept her lovers well-hidden from Elliott.[[[PLOT POTENTIAL]]]

As time passed, Darien grew. Katherine was very happy when she gave birth to a son, and in the early years of his life, Darien had been her pride and joy(not that she had ever showed it or said a word about it). She'd already had plans about teaching him all the things she knew about being in charge of a fiefdom, manipulation, politics and, basically, all the things her own father had taught her. His sister, Elena, born when he was six, had always had a second place in the eyes of Lady Lawley. No affection had ever been displayed towards any of them. They only ever got to see their mother's cold and commanding outside.

Elliott had clearly begun to care more about his daughter, since they were far more alike. He'd once even implied that Elena should've einherited the fiefdom, which had caused such a fierce reaction within Katherine that he had never mentioned it again. Also, whenever there would've been an argument, Katherine would have silently taken Darien's side, turning things into his favor.

Later, she regretted it.

Perhaps she had spoiled Darien too much(even though indirectly, through her husband and servants), perhaps she had not been strict enough with him, perhaps she had not set enough limits to his behaviour. But none of it, none of it justified what she'd witnessed one day in her eyes. Lady Katherine was returning from a meeting with a lover of her own, when she suddenly heard moans coming out of the stables. Curious, she peeked inside, only to be welcomed by the most shocking sight of her life. Darien, with another man. Katherine's entire world was shaken to the very foundations. That was one of the foremost things she'd been taught to discern as improper. She had never been as close to fainting as then. Somehow, she'd managed the strength to walk up to her bedroom, where she lied in her bed shivering for hours.

The following morning, time for actions came.

Late in the afternoon, Katherine Lawley called her son to her quarters for a meeting. In the meeting, she had explained to him how a certain man had been forever exiled from their fiefdom to a most dangerous, faraway land. Katherine's influence with Elliott could've brought her literally anything. By the time, she had already composed, and was staring coldly into the eyes of her child. The reaction she had expected had not come. It turned out that person had meant nothing at all to Darien. That did not rectify anything for Katherine. An edge of terrifying frost in her voice, she warned Darien that if he ever, ever again did something remotely simillar to that, she would make sure he was exposed to the entire world. She was uncertain if she would have done that. Probably not, because it would've brought shame onto her entire family, including herself. But the threat had sounded real.

Since that day, Katherine's heart had gone cold towards her son. Maybe she had not stopped caring, but she certainly tells herself so and acts accordingly. As for Elena, she ignores her almost completely, only yearning to marry her well. Angry with the fact that she, not her beloved Darien,is the only in her eyes proper child she has left, Katherine refuses to care about her either.

When her husband died, she had not required any pretending or acting not to weep. She had grown to consider Elliott a friend, but she chose to blame him greatly for what had happened with Darien. Maybe because it was easier that way, not having to wonder what had SHE done wrong. Gossipers claim that Lord Elliott Lawley had been ’ushered towards his death’ by his wife and his son, which is quite accurate. He’d never been able to tolerate the parts of Darien’s behavior Katherine found acceptable, and it had been his ruin when Katherine turned ice cold towards him.

Currently, Katherine resides in the Lawley fiefdom, striving for more power, either by marrying her daughter to a mighty man or by engagin in some scheme herself. She can always be seen at social gatherings, balls and such.

Plot Potential:
Hmm...there's quite a lot. She is power-hugnry, always ready to use more power, influence and wealth. Then there is the aforementioned lover; she is quite simillar to her son when it comes to that(she'd never admit that). I'd like it if someone could be her ex-lover, or her current one..there's also room for future ones.
Whatever plot that has to do with politics, scheming, manipulation, can consider Katherine a part of it.

SAMPLE RP (with this character only):

{{{{{I hurried the post a bit, otherwise it would've been waaaaay too long}}}}}}

Lady Katherine Lawley waved her fan lazily as she strolled through the scattered lines of people. In spite of the seemingly absent demeanour, no one who took a glance of her emerald eyes could've said they weren't eying ineptly each and every person that passed by. Yet that very person could not have heeded it nearly as easily. Naturally, everyone who knew Lady Katherine would've been at guard the moment they found she was passing by. Lady Lawley had a reputation for observance...to a very large extent.

She, herself was well-aware of it, and she took great pride in it. Each and every time she would display it, though, when she would notice one detail that appeared senseless to others and trail it to an important discovery, it would serve not only as success, but also as a painful reminder of a past event. An event where her lack of observance had been fatal. Or did overseeing your own son having...arduous affairs...not count for that? Katherine did not really need that much for the event to spring into her mind-a mere look at Darien was usually enough. Nothing simillar to that could've ever been forgotten.

Usually, there was a lot more she could've thought about following that stream of thoughts, but now she chose to abandon it. She was on a ball. Balls were about dancing, chatting(in her case, finding out information) and enjoying. In spite of her cold demeanour and behavior, Katherine did possess a hedonistic part. Proof for that were her numerous lovers...all fine men. Of course, there was no proof, since she had never had any of her lovers revealed. She knew the importance of making a good impression on the society. It had been among the first things she'd been thought.

Dressing well was one of the keys to that. For this evening, Katherine had chosen a deep, red gown with an extremely tight(and quite revealing) bodice, and a wider skirt. Her raven hair was up in a sophisticated, extravagant bun. She liked to believe she looked younger than her true age, thirty-seven. Most people told her she did. On the other hand, they had plenty of reason to get into her good books. She had learned only to believe her own eyes.

Across the room, she spotted Lucien Crane, the host of this party. Rising the glass of wine she'd been twirling between her fingers, she inclined it at him before taking a sip. Crane had been a good lover. He deserved praise. As she watched him approach her, she knew he was going to ask for a dance. Katherine made a half-turn, looking for a table to dispose of her glass. Luckily, a servant passed by and took it onto his tray. Smiling, she faced the dark-haired, blue-eyed man before her.

"Lady Lawley." He murmured, kissing her hand. Katherine wanted to laugh. Everything she did in public, she did extremely properly. No one, not even her own children could have told that there was anything further between Lucien and her. There were always gossips, but nobody had any facts, and anyone who observed her found her to be a completely polite lady.

"Lord Crane." The rest of the evening was going to go as planned, she thought with a smirk. After Lucien, she intended on dancing with Lord Stewart, then with Lord Marrywether and Lord Nealson. Nobody would ever even be lead to think that she'd shared a bed with all of them. They certainly weren't going to say a word about it; they all had dutiful wives by their sides.

Katherine Lawley maybe had a difficult life not completely to her liking. But there were certainly times when it seemed completely otherwise.

Lipstick: not so much back then. Lips were colored with carmine (look it up) or various other dyes, or simply reddened by biting.

Everything else looks fine. That's just a nitpick. I think the family dynamic ought to become quite interesting. What will she do when the revolution really turns sour? Really, really think about that--there's a good chance of a war starting in Lawley.

I'm sure you'll also find plenty of intrigue.
