Title: The Rules
Description: MUST READ

King Aedan - March 7, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
1. Thiasa is an original fantasy RP. Before you register, please read through the Guide so you know how this world works. It's pretty long, I know--you don't have to be exhaustive. You should at least read through the information on the Thiasans and the first post (the overview) of Baskari Culture.

2. Register only with your full character name. Guests are allowed to view all forums, so you won't be missing any information if you don't register. If you simply want to advertise, our advertising forum is open to guest posting. So again, please register only with your full character name as it will appear on the character sheet. No middle names, as they didn't have them in the Middle Ages, and we'll stick with that because we don't like the hassle of reading long names.

Names for the Thiasans may be found here. Make sure to check the history of the name--only use a name if it's been around for awhile--no modern-only names (we like to keep the medieval feel). If you want further examples of period names, here, here, here, or here*. You may use either Irish, English, Scottish or German names. IF your character is from Roma, you may use an Italian or a Latin name; there likely won't be many of these characters, however. Bear in mind that you must choose a name that's historically as accurate as possible; thus, if you're spelling, say, 'Catherine,' you should spell it as either 'Catherine' or 'Katherine,' but not, say, 'Kathrynn,' which is certainly nothing you'd see in the medieval era. [

Surnames may be found here. You may use British, Celtic, Gaelic, Irish, Saxon, or Scottish names. If your character is from Roma, you may use an Italian or Latin name.

Baskari names are all Basque (the culture isn't Basque--we just stole the language, because we think it's amazing), and names may be found here (female), here (male), and here. To create a full name for your Baskari character, men need to create a surname by putting 'sem'' (the word indicating 'son of') before the name of his father, and women, 'alab'' (the word indicating 'daughter of') before the name of her father.

3. This site is rated PG-13, which means we allow violence and some sexuality. We do allow some rated-R content; if you are going to post a full-on sex scene or extreme violence, kindly label the thread [Rated R] so that people who don't want to see it may avoid it. If you do nothing but post sex scenes, we reserve the right to issue a warning--the point of this site isn't just to write pornography, after all.

4. Be polite and kind to other members. This shouldn't require explanation. Protracted fights in the cbox will result in warnings if we really have to, but we'd rather just everyone try to get along--out of character, that is. In-character I hope to see a great many bloody fights.

5. Image Signature Rules Our face claim list is here. Please don't take a face that's already listed.

Maximum size for signature images is 550 wide by 250 tall; maximum size for avatars is 160 wide by 225 tall. Only photographs of real people are allowed--and please don't use one of yourself, use a model or actor. Please keep the writing and imagery in your signature appropriate for your character; i.e. no modern slang, and try to avoid obviously modern clothing. You can find great pictures in periodish costume at this site and a lot of celebrity pictures here, or here for some Native American pictures you can use for the Baskar--we also take pictures of people of Asiatic/African descent as Baskar. Here is another good site for African/Asian/Indian/Native American playbys.

7. Ten sentence minimum on all posts. The general standard of writing on this site is high, however, so we expect much more than that from most. But we recognize that quality and quantity are not interchangeable.

8. Write in full sentences and clear, grammatical English. We are an advanced site, and repeated typos, lack of punctuation, and grammatical errors lower the quality for everyone. Watch out for they're/there/their distinctions, 'modern' speech (this is a medieval setting), etc.

9. No power-playing/god-moding. This means, among other things, that you can't kill another character without their player's express permission; and if they give it please PM me first, so I know about it.

10. Please post in the default font size. Some of us (like your friendly King Aedan) have trouble reading tiny font, and don't like to enlarge our screens.

11. Only advertise on the advertising board. Advertising in the cbox will get you promptly banned from it, and you don't want that.

12. Be creative! PM me with any suggestions for the world. I'm totally open to all ideas regarding the land, the culture, new kinds of characters--anything, provided you first read the information we've set up and PM me with info on your idea. You may also feel free to run wild on the site and to plot, and post, anywhere you can reasonably explain; I'm also not terribly concerned about timeline. If it makes sense in your head and to your RP partner, it's pretty much fine with me.
