Physical Description (five sentence minimum):
John is fair; with a blonde undercut and blue eyes he uses to sucker people in. Occasionally he does wear a goatee/beard, though that is becoming more common since he had really hit puberty a few years ago. He stands at 5'10ft, with a "weedy" frame that would be more attractive if he did more physical labour. Other than lifting a mug to his lips at the local tavern. Where the sun has touched his skin, there is a bit of a darkening with a tan.
He has "the look of his mother" with her blue eyes and fair hair that he inherited. His Father, a burly man enjoys referring to his children as his two pretty daughters. Although occasionally when he has been drinking be abuses John for being a weakling and pretty.
Due to John's laziness, it is actually rare for his clothing to stink of horse. He wears a sandy coloured tunic, with a worn leather belt around his waist and darker coloured pants. When drunk he tries to wear copies of the strange ruffles the nobles insist on wearing.
Personality (eight sentence minimum):
John is one of those highly idealistic people who loves to boast about the hard working people. Even though he himself has never worked a hard day in his life. His lectures of hatred are usually carried out whilst being drunk at the local tavern, with a couple of easy and gullible girls on each arm. He would be loud, willing to take on any who supported his prick of a "Lord" and the crown and would fight them. Until of course any military men showed up. For this you could say he's a coward, but well.. yeah he is.
The lowly man is a lover of the Ladies, or at least those he thinks are ladies. It's hard to tell late at night sometimes. Basically he will take whatever is on offer and if there is some kind of money involved. Well ... even better! This side occupation does occasionally allow him to get into places other's may not be willing to go. While he generally services women, he has in the past serviced men of various levels of rank. Money is money; plus it is always entertaining spreading rumours about a "queer" nobleman.
John due to his upbringing cannot read or write. He had no desire to do so, why read when you can... drink? This does not mean that he is stupid. He is a cunning where there is opportunity, he takes it. And is highly unwilling to share anything with anyone, a childish part of his personality remains after giving half of his bread to a child on the street when he was a child. What did he get? Nothing but a growling stomach,
There has however been a rivalry between him and his sister Jessie about how could pleasure the most about of clients and get the best tip at the end of the night. Another game for them involves who can put the most of a sausage down their throats without gagging... this game has certainly aided their careers in prostitution. He also acts as his sister's pimp; some may wonder how a somewhat weedy, pretty boy could manage that. It's simple; men tend to think with one head at a time.
His father had always been a distant figure; raised with watching him work silently as he moulded iron into horse shoes. Watching him work from dawn til dusk with the frequent tap, bang sound. John had been raised with his industrious and practical Mother, therefore he accepts female leadership as quite the norm. Especially when it comes to older ladies. His Mother always seemed to have a plan, or a few coins beneath the floorboards and bossed his docile Father around endlessly.
Growing up this confused him a little. Wasn't the man supposed to control his woman? Wasn't she supposed to obey? There is a vague memory of him asking his Father about it during the middle of shoeing a grey horse. His Father said "If a man beats his wife, forces her he has already lost" tap, bang, tap bang as he spoke again. "they are important too. Now bugger off and let me finish"
The preacher that he follows is nowhere near as strict as many that are around. They aren't these "God-like" figures, but generally seem to care about him as a person and is willing to listen to him. He is not a religious man, the Catholic church condemns him as being a slackard, a rent boy, a sodomite amongst other things and would easily burn him at the stake. His Father had a quiet submission to the church, although having some doubts about the teachings. His Mother on the other hand, would scoff and tell him that it was foolishness. Although quietly, away from the ears of others.
His aspirations would be to wake up and not have to bow to many "in-bred" man or woman. Serious! By God, they all married their cousins! Not to mention they're fat, decadent swine. That every night he would go to bed with a full stomach and a safe place to sleep. Not to mention; have revenge on every wealthy person who took advantage of him.
History (ten sentence minimum):
Born into a peasant family, given the name of the "Smiths" or the "Smithys" due to the occupation of the male of the household. The The family compared to many around them were not poor, in fact John's father Bobby had plenty of business. It is well known across the town of Bobby's wife's sometime occupation, that of being a streetwalker. However when you're a violent blacksmith, people tend to keep their slanderous thoughts to themselves.
At around four John gained his first memory of walking outside to fetch one item or another for his father. When he saw his Mother across the street with a strange man, he was confused about whether or not he was hurting her. Finally money and bread exchanged hands, he saw the baker walk away. His Mother then told him that sometimes women needed to help with work too.
This did not mean that he didn't get teased within the streets as he played games. Oh no, he was called a variety of them. Including "Whore son", "Son of Bitch"etc, Of course, being a young boy he would try to defend his Mother's "honour" when she found out about it however she laughed. His father knew, that was for sure. The man was not blind, as to his feelings they have never spoken about it. Or the times he accompanied his Mother to visit the wise woman who knew secrets on how to make children in the womb, disappear.
When he was about seven, his Mother fell pregnant with a baby girl. There were whispers around the town about who the Father of young Jessie may be. After all, neither parent had dark brown hair or brown eyes...
His family accepted her readily enough, treating her with the same amount of disinterest that he showed John. At about this point, John begun his work in a job his father had arranged with the Lord's Stable Master as a stablehand or stable boy. At the start, he was a good worker, silent and would work quickly. Until he saw a spoiled brat, the son of someone who was ranked and visiting. This man did no work in his life, yet had everything he could ever desire. From this point on the lazy part of his personalty had begun to take over.
At thirteen he started drinking and in doing so, lost his virginity to a merchant. It hurt and when his Mother found out, she promptly told him he was doing it wrong and should have been paid more. All of the possible thoughts about his Mother's occupation were gone now. She assisted in finding him clients both men and women, as he gained experience he soon began taking care of his sister while she was on the job.
Plot Potential:
Anything to do with the rebellion of the serfs; so possible friendships and rivalries between the serfs within the community. He would definitely take part in any looting, riots or crime associated with it.
Possible change of heart as he could join the "reformers" who wish to change the church. Although this one does seem unlikely because he enjoys every part of his "heathen" lifestyle. He could "find God" at some point, but I think it would be much, much later on.
Becoming the pimp of more whores; or possibly setting up his own Brothel. But he would need to over-come his lazy nature for that kind of thing to occur,. But he will likely continue prostitution for the rest of his life, or be involved in the industry.
There could be a scandal involving his services being purchased by a noble of some sort. Preferably a man because it would be considerably more scandalous that way.
SAMPLE RP (with this character only):
John was eagerly trying to avoid working at the stables, a place where you wasted your life dealing with herbivore beasts who don't give a shit about you and the owner's of the beasts think even less of you. At least with prostitution there were more oppurtunities, it was easier to steal someone's purse or seduce them into giving more. Looking upwards at the sky, it was darkening, soon it would be time to return home, collect his sister and see who would earn the most tonight.
Walking down the path refusing to look or acknowledge the crippled beggar by the side of the road. 'Fucking smelly, useless people, they should all be locked up or killed' He thought to himself as he got closer to his house. The stables and the blacksmith were close to each other, it suited both establishments well.
Walking past he could feel the heat and the sounds of his Father at work. Walking past, they both ignored each other.
"JESSIE! You ready to go to work?" He called into the house, no doubt she would hear considering their house was tiny. (By modern standards) The smell of the livestock was still prominent, an old heating technique that everyone used. Tapping his foot, grumbling as he waited not so patiently.
What's the name of the Creator God the Ekaini worship?: ((aye))
I love the ideas. You hereby win the award for first actual pimp on Thiasa. Here Have this special pimp ring. Use it to leave marks on your bitches when you slap them. :) I'm not sure about starting a whorehouse... it seems like a GREAT idea--for after the revolution--when it's met with... well, will it meet with success?--and ushers in a new era of decadence and depravity. I think that may well be a great plan for him, in fact. Revolution for the sake of brothel-building.
You may want to run posts through spellcheck and MS Word grammarcheck, to deal with the errors we talked about, but that's minor.
I like the character a lot. Welcome to Thiasa!
