Title: Lady Elayne Argyle

Lady Elayne Argyle - March 10, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
Character Name: Elayne Argyle

Canon/Original: Canon

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Family:
Father: Lord Edan Argyle (39)
Mother: Lady Finola Argyle (deceased)
Siblings: had two elder brothers, but both died in battles
Uncle: Lord Elrich Argyle (42)

Occupation: Court Lady

Place of Habitation: The Keep

Physical Description (five sentence minimum): Elayne is, even if still young, considered a beauty. She has long, dark brown hair that frames a slender and beautiful face. Her eyes are big and brown and it is difficult for her to hide all her feelings because what she feels easily reflects in her eyes. Standing only 5'2, Elayne is not tall, but lithe and slender. Although young, Elayne has already started to develop the body of a grown woman, but her face remains with a childish and innocent beauty.

When clothing is concerned, Elayne dresses mostly in blue, teal and dark green. She doesn't really like the other more flashy colours worn by some of the court ladies and would rather have stayed out of the searchlight if she could. The dresses she bears tends to show difference in quality too, depending on if it was her father or her uncle that provided her with it. If it were her uncle, then the quality would have risen greatly.

Personality (eight sentence minimum): Elayne is one of those people who close to always show their emotions, even if wanting to hide them. She simply can’t conceal them: she cannot hold back her tears or suppress her anger. Her tears come easily and she is quick to direct her anger at someone, unable to there and then consider the consequences of what she might say. This was, of course, how she was before she entered the Keep. Here she is not allowed to let her feelings flow so freely, nor does she want the people there to see her tears. So she has started to force herself to bottle up those emotions that would have flown so easily before. It makes her anger burn stronger those times when she cannot suppress it any longer and it makes her cry harder when things get too tough.

But because she is rather cheerful and a very positive person Elayne hides behind that forged happiness to prevent herself from breaking. She keeps telling herself that it will all get better when she just gets used to it and that all she needs to do is bear with it a bit longer.

She is also a tad bit naïve, a personal trait that comes because of her young age. She has seen too little of the world to not trust a person’s word, has been at the court for too short a time to really question the actions of others. If she had done this, she might not have gotten really angry every time she finds out that others have lied to her either. Because she wants to believe in the best of all people, and she blindly accepts things she is told to be true. But when this comes crashing down and she is shown that it was all lies that her anger burns the brightest. Elayne will then direct her anger at the one who lied or deceived her and towards herself for believing.

Along with all this she is also very overprotective of her father, as she counts him as the only real family she has left. Of course, she has her uncle, but due to what he has made her do, she has started to dislike him greatly.

History (ten sentence minimum): Elayne Argyle was born as the third child in the Argyle household. Her mother died, giving birth to her, so she was left in a world of men to grow up in. But nevertheless she would not have chosen otherwise. Her father, Lord Edan Argyle, was not of high status and he spent most time on the battlefield, as did her brothers. And while they were off fighting, she was normally left in the care of her uncle. This she didn't mind at first, but in time he brought her to court and whispered little orders in her ear. Stubborn as she is, Elayne didn't want to listen to him at first, but when her brothers were killed and her father came back with his leg cut off she found she had no other choice. If she didn't do what her uncle told her, she would be sure to lose everything, also the power to give her father a good life.

Of course, it should here be mentioned that it was her uncle Elrich that was the oldest out of the two Argyle brothers. He was the one who gained land and power, not his younger sibling.

So she started to work her way into court, and with help from her uncle she managed to stay there. And now the only real goal remains; to try and woe the king into falling for her. She does this for her father, not for herself. Honestly she cares little for the king too, as her uncle has removed all her desire to wed a royal. But her objections always fall to deaf ears. Even when she says that the King might wed someone else, her uncle only smiles and tells her that she then will have to try her luck with the Prince, seeing as he is still not wed either.

Being at court has also opened Elayne’s eyes for something else: the threat of a potential war. It is a monument of fear for her, as she has already lost her brothers to the battlefield. True, Elayne doesn’t really know the true meaning of war, but part of that lack of knowledge scares her. In her mind, a war is something horrible, something that comes and kills her friends and family. It is like a bad dream, a plague that eats is way into the country. And to imagine such things by herself, she has only made the fear of war greater.

Plot Potential:
((Likely to happen after having written a few threads with Darien Lawley.))

With her feelings towards Lord Darien Lawley growing every day, it becomes a true pain to try and get the King's attention. Had it been up to Elayne, she would instead direct her attention and her true feelings towards this young Lord, as he would with her. But her uncle seems likely to threaten her, so she cannot escape the never ending spiral she has entered. Nor can she show Darien the affection she wants.

When war comes she is also very likely to try and prevent Darien to leave, as she is so scared by the thought of war. As I've written before, she's lost her brothers and the thought of losing a man she cares so much about is scary.

QUOTE

The building seemed like some looming, evil tower from where Jin stood, staring up at it. Ever since he’d learned the truth behind the Fujigaya corp. he’d avoided the place just as he was avoiding his parents and his old home. Why? Because they all were feet deep in the dark dealings of the yakuza, and there was no way he’d allow himself to drop down into it all. Was what he’d originally thought, that was… But now that thought was hidden in one of those dull, forgotten boxes in the back of his closet. Now he had just given up the idea of staying outside the dirty business his father seemed to care so much for.

Stepping inside, Shinji gave his name to the receptionist, who some minutes later told him he could go up to the top floor, where the president would see him shortly. President? So that’s what that fox called himself now? Oh well, perhaps it was a bit better than the “politician” he had been labelled as before.

And there, all of a sudden there was nothing but a door between him and that fox. There would be no going back once he’d opened it, but there seemed to be no other option. His eyesight was fading again, the pills he’d gotten had lost their effect and he had no money. Not to mention that Shinji didn’t want to worry Ayame the least bit. So, because this was the only other way he knew how to get money, he’d now resorted to the path he’d sworn never to walk down.

When he knocked the door Jin couldn’t deny he was nervous. Nor could he deny it when he forced his feet to move, bringing him inside a large office. The whole place seemed to be cut out of an interior design magazine, and the man behind the desk could probably have appeared in that magazine as a model. But he was no model, he was the oyabun of the Akai Karasu and Shinji’s dad’s boss. Jin nervously bowed before stepping closer, meeting the man’s eyes before quickly looking away again. What was he doing here, really?

Narrow lips parted to speak, but the older man spoke up first: ‘So you want to play yakuza? Mimasaka Shinji?’. The words surprised Jin, but of course…they were right. Swallowing, he looked up, praying for his voice to be steady when he started to speak. “If that is what you call it, then yes. If that includes some sort of payment that is, Fujigaya-sama.” Ugh…to have to be so polite towards a criminal was a real pain! But he was here now, no backing out!

I actually think this character has plot potential, insofar as she's connected to the Prince but pushed into seducing the king by her family--good on that, though you could use more. You've got a few clumsy phrases, though, things you might want to work on.

(Minutia alert) You've misspelled a few words (like 'woe' for 'woo') and you might want to double-heck your comma usage.

Also (back to plot), if the King marries someone else, will she continue to try for his favor, or will she shift her attention to the prince? What will she do when war breaks out? Add some more on this, because I think it will help you define the character better. Oh, and so you know: Lord Darien Lawley is rather distantly in love with her. I'm fine with your figuring out her feelings through RP, but it is certainly potential for plot.

Now, personality.

Her naïveté is an interesting trait, as is her anger. Do they conflict? I'm sensing she likes to keep an even keel, not create a disturbance. Since she's got a bit of an anger issue, though... does this create a problem? How does she feel after an attack of rage? Does she bottle it up? It seems as though she would, given her need to smooth things over. Elaborate on this. Remember that a character's personality is all of a piece, and each facet should fit with, and inform, each other.

Overall, not a bad application; just a little sparse. Flesh it out and we'll take final acceptance.

I like the character, fill out the plot potential and flesh out the things Sam suggested and you should be good to go.

I like it. Interesting plot potential. Good luck getting a fiefdom leader exempted from war, though--that would be treason. o_0 Of course, if you cut off one of his feet, that would work. :P But yeah, I like it. I'm sure the plot will take off, so thanks to Darien for that one, and good on the redo o the personality.
