| The king before her was almost completely disrobed but for his breeches, but even still she'd never thought she'd see him naked. Though inebriated and seemingly wistful, Maggie had been pulled to the King's presence, it seemed, so that he could have someone to talk to, at least for now. When he ordered her to meet his eyes, she was hesitant at first, but eventually her startlingly emerald eyes rose to meet his shocking sapphirical ones, the precious gems acting as windows into each other's souls. What she found within frightened her, but not because of him and what he was capable of...but to see such remorse. She sat when ordered, taking a seat directly across from him. She leaned to her left, the arm on the armrest, and tucked her legs up underneath her so that she was a strange mix of laying sideways and sitting with her feet curled under her. Awkward for some, but her natural flexibility and comfort with her own body made it startlingly easy. As he spoke she said nothing at first, letting him say his peace...and yet peace seemed to be eluding him at the moment. Perhaps it was the wine, perhaps it was his past, but something was clearly getting to him. She was trained in all manner of uses as a slave. Being a confidante was not so unusual, and it was for that very reason, because of how quickly and easily she'd learned the trade, that even advanced skills like an element of psychology, was also taught to her, if only to make a better companion should the need arise. "Begging Your Majesty's pardon...but I would dare to say you would not be the first nor last within the nobles of Adesia to have killed. Commanding death, amongst other lesser evils, is a necessary part of leadership. For some, without fear of consequence there is no motivation to follow orders. Anarchy would ensue, and civilization would collapse. Slaves understand this fact better then most, for it directly applies to the Master-slave dichotomy, but it is still a fundamental truth of society as a whole." A slave, yes, but she was far from stupid. Indeed, had her potential been realized she could have been one of the great scholars of the age. To have come to such an understanding based solely on experience and second-hand learning, and an application of her own intellect should shine a small nugget on the truth behind her potential. Perhaps she was a worthy slave for the Adesian King after all. "As someone who, admittedly, has a somewhat more open view of life and love then most of those that are Catholic or Protestant, I fully believe that we are capable of loving more then one person. In that same vein, I believe that there are other women who could love you. Not just for your power or influence, but you, for who you are." Saying all that she was could easily qualify as a huge risk, but one of the things she'd learned about subtle body language to read was that when a Master asked his slave to meet his eyes, odds were high that in those moments he wanted to talk not Master to slave, but person to person. She was nervous and wished to please him, and in that moment it seemed that simply saying 'As you say, Your Majesty' would not supplicate him; that it might in fact anger him. She felt that being open and honest with her thoughts was what he wished, so she did her best to please him, this time on an intellectual and emotional level. "In that way, Your Majesty, I believe there is still someone out there for you." |
