Title: Titles
Description: IMPORTANT

If you're trying to create a character, you might want to give him or her a title. When you register, you should put the title before your character's name (if you've already registered before reading this, just PM me and I'll alter your login name). So I've created this handy little guide to both Thiasan and Baskari titles.

Thiasan Titles

Prince, Princess: Your character is a Prince or a Princes if you're the sister or brother of the King, or any of the King's legitimate offspring (of which there are, as yet, none).

Lord: Your character is a Lord if he owns his own fiefdom or is the son or daughter of someone who owns a fiefdom.

Lady: Your character is a Lady if she is the wife of someone who owns a fiefdom or his daughter, or the wife or daughter of a knight.

Sir: Your character is called Sir if he's a knight: that is, someone who's a nobleman without a fiefdom. 'Sir' is also a military rank; that's because all noblemen would be trained to the military, barring some serious disability. In that case the title would be honorary.

Mister: All artisans and farmers may be known as Mister once they've reached the age of majority (15 for men, 13 for women). Serfs are not called by a title. (no need to register with this title in front of your name)

Mistress: All married women are known as 'Mistress'. Again, the wives of serfs aren't called by a title. (no need to register with this title in front of your name)

Miss: All young, unmarried girls are known as 'Miss.' So are whores. If your character is over the age of 13 and a respectable woman, she would not be called 'Miss.' (no need to register with this title in front of your name)

Steward: Responsible for the day-to-day running of a fiefdom. Usually just an elevated commoner with no title.

Father: All priests will have this title.

Brother: Members of a monastery have this title.

Bishop: Those in charge of a diocese have this title.

Archbishop: Those in charge of an archdiocese have this title. Essentially an elevated Bishop.

Cardinal: A Bishop given additional duties, a Cardinal is also part of the College of Cardinals, responsible for electing the Pope. He may also run a diocese/archdiocese.

Baskari Titles

Warlord: Warlord is the title of a leader of one of the two Baskar tribes. The wives of the Warlord take no title before their name, nor do the wives of the Chiefs.

Chief, Chieftainess: Chief is the title of a leader of one of the smaller subtribes that make up the main two tribes. Very rarely, a woman inherit the title of Chieftainess if her husband leaves her childless or with only young children/daughters and is himself without younger brothers. If a Chieftainess is in charge she is expected to perform all the duties of a Chief, even fighting battles, and loses her status as a marriageable woman; she is also recognized officially as infertile and essentially given a 'male' identity.

Shaman: Only the Ekaini have Shamans, people who speak to the spirit world. Shamans may be male or female. They also perform healing 'spells' and a great deal of actual medicine, astronomy, natural science, etc. and are responsible for 'prophesying' the future. Shamans may marry but often choose not to. Some of them prefer their own gender, which is accepted among holy men and women. (You need not put this before the character's name for login)

Acolyte: The apprentices to the Shamans, still receiving their grueling training in the ways of the Spirit World. (Likewise, it's not essential to add this to the character name)

Healer: The Zerui have Healers instead of Shamans, who do not pretend that their skill has anything to do with spirits--though many of the Zerui secretly believe it does. (also not essential to add before character name)*

*Baskar names are very long already!
