The Venator-class Star Destroyer was designed and produced by the Old Republic to be a fleet carrier for their microfighters that couldn’t fit hyperdrives. It is the other half of the Victory-class Star Destroyer in a way, with this providing the starfighter swarms and fleet coordination and the VicStar providing heavy ordinance. The VenStar is a large vessel and quite narrow. It is unique among Star Destroyers for a few reasons. Firstly, it has a split command tower, divided into two smaller towers. One of these is the standard command bridge for the ship while the other serves as a coordination center for the starfighters it carries. Secondly, it has deep indents in its sides, which each have docking slots for linking to space stations and larger ships, and a long tail-section which contains the hyperdrive. Finally, the front half of the dorsal hull is able to open completely to reveal an enormous flight deck that allows very rapid deployment of the swarms of fighters the VenStar holds. However, this flight deck is also a weakness as the open doors create a vulnerable opening in the ship’s hull and the doors are fairly slow to close.
There is a large ventral bay which can be used in the traditional manner of a hangar, and this hangar has a link to allow a SPHA-T walker to be connected to the reactor of the Venator and act as a very powerful turbolaser turret from within the hangar to protect the ship’s ventral side. The entire ship is well armed and protected, and like any true warship, it is capable of diverting almost all its reactor power into the eight dual heavy turbolaser cannons for ship-to-ship assaults. The Venator is also capable of operating within a planetary atmosphere, and has a standard military assault force loaded up for just such occassions. Nowadays the Venator is not produced under Imperial contract any longer, but Kuat Drive Yards have been known to fill orders for the ships from groups that have the money for them.
