Created just before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the Delta-7 Aethersprite was the preferred combat starfighter of the Jedi, as it forced the user to rely on their own skills, lacking much more than the lightest of shields or much more than basic sensors, though not as heavily diminished as the later Eta-2 Actis. Because it lacks all this basic equipment the Delta-7 is compact and more importantly when preparing for a war, it’s cheap. The Aethersprite basically looks like a thin dagger-shaped wedge of a fighter, with the cockpit bubble near the back of the craft. Slightly forward of this is a spherical Q4 astromech droid that is completely integrated into the craft, but can be easily removed and swapped to other Aethersprites, or even an Alpha-3 Nimbus. The Q4-K2 can even be installed into an Eta-2 Actis to provide improved sensors and a damage repair system, though it is not so multi-purpose as the standard astromech droid. However, the astromech serves to automatically redirect power in the shield generator to weakened sections of the shield, for improved defense.

The Delta-7 is a fast ship, its single powerful ion engine allowing it to nearly match the speed of a TIE Interceptor, though it is not as maneuverable, being a little more so than an X-Wing. Halfway along the ship, on the port and starboard ventral and dorsal surfaces, is a standard military-grade laser cannon, locked into position, though the targeting can be improved by the Q4 unit. Just like the later cousins of this craft, the Eta-2 Actis and the Alpha-3 Nimbus, the Aethersprite has a very small life support and fuel system, both maxing out at 5 hours used at full capacity, pathetically low. The Aethersprite is able to calculate any number of hyperspace jumps and does not need pre-programmed coordinates due to its Q4 unit, unlike the Eta-2 Actis and Alpha-3 Nimbus. The Delta-7 Aethersprite was a popular ship during the Clone Wars due to its low cost.
