The Alpha-3 Nimbus V-Wing is a ship designed during the Clone Wars specifically for high-speed interceptor duties both in interstellar space and in high altitude planetary atmosphere. The V-Wing has a long thin pointed nose section in front of the cockpit and vertically long radiator panels on either side of the cockpit, similar to the later TIE/ln Fighter. It also had an astromech droid socket behind the cockpit. The series is produced by Kuat Systems Engineering, but 25% of the profits go to Sienar Fleet Systems, who bought out the Alpha/Delta/Eta line just after the Clone Wars finished. The V-Wing is an interceptor designed to be a more sturdy craft than its cousin, the Eta-2, and also far easier for normal people to pilot. That said, the V-Wing is still very hard to pilot, around the same level as an A-Wing.
The V-Wing has a high acceleration capability and agility comparable to an A-Wing, and has a small deflector shield generator built into it to protect the pilot. Installed on the pylon that connects each of the two radiator panels to the craft is a rotational turret that mounts two laser cannons, and it can rotate up and down by around ninety degrees. The V-Wing often used a Q7-unit astromech to assist with maintenance and in-flight navigation. It is important to note that the V-Wing has a horrendously small operational period before requiring refuelling, on the order of around fifteen hours. Also, in the atmosphere the V-Wing can achieve such a blistering pace that even a momentary lapse in concentration can send the craft crashing into the ground far below.
