1980s BOLD/EROTIC/TRASH from the Philippines

Hello,

does anyone know where bootlegs of these movies can be found? Many of these movies where made in the 1980s but I have seen almost none available anywhere. (no surprise there)

There must be some collectors somewhere who have them I would think but I have not yet found any. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

regards

Mike

I too would be very interested in any of these. Particularly SCORPIO NIGHTS.

Jared - March 29, 2009 09:56 PM (GMT)
Here's another call for anyone who has any prints of these films available to step forward. I am willing to pay money or trade or simply beg and make a fool of myself in order to see more of these obscure and fascinating films.
Barring that simply more info would be a good thing too. Is there anything approaching some sort of 'master list' of these films in print or online?
Any help at all would greatly appreciated!

I take it you're familiar with Andrew Leavold's blogs? Otherwise do check them out, they're a wealth of info. And on a slightly different note; check out Nick Nicholson's blog where he's writing his book online about his time in Filipino film. Links from my own blogs.

Jared - March 29, 2009 10:19 PM (GMT)
Oh, thanks Jack. I had forgotten about the Weng Weng blog. Does he have another?

Oh, thanks Jack. I had forgotten about the Weng Weng blog. Does he have another?

Oh man!! You have been away that's for sure   About a month ago Blog.spot decided to delete his Weng Weng blog. Just like that. They ERAZED it. They KILLED it! They said it was SPAM and they threw it in the trash. No kidding. So Andrew put up another one but lo and behold after 3 days Blog.spot decided it wasn't spam and put it back up. Just like that. With all its contents and all. But at stage Andrew had started another one and (due to some HINTS) he's now organising it so the film entries are easy to look up. If I've understood it right everything's gonna be moved over there eventually.

There's no list of these films. Not even in the Philippines. And they're impossible to find. I've got a few though B)

Jared - March 30, 2009 12:07 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the tips guys. Andrew's new blog does seem much more user-friendly than previous, I will be checking it out regularly. Sad that info is so scarce for this genre. Using those two blogs and the Video 48 blog that I came across sometime ago and then forgot about as well as the ever reliable (!) IMDB, I will be attemting to make a list of "Bold" films or at least 80s sex films from the Philippines for our use here at Cinehound. I hope to have it up here in a day or so!

Jared - March 30, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
A lot of time on my hands today so here's my initial list, built from information gained from Andrew Leavold's blogs as well as the excellent and highly informative Video 48 blog. Hardly definitive, but it's a good start. If anyone has any additions or corrections please post below and I will update accordingly. Now let's find as many copies of these movies as we can!

I remember seeing that title, thinking that's a cool name. Let's see, Regal should have it:

And maybe this blog might help, Anna-Marie Gutierrez movie posters:

Member X, you're linking to the legendary Video 48 blog which is one of the blogs Jared said he got the titles from. ;)

And unfortunately many of these films are if not lost then at least not released anywhere in home cinema formats. Not even in the Philippines.

scorpio nights is available with fansubs on cinemageddon (also an unsubbed part 2 from the late 90's). red roses for a call girl is available too... didn't check them all yet.
don't know if information about cinemageddon is apreciated or not, but I thought I'd mention it because of the subs...

You have to hide these things otherwise non-hardcore collectors will find out about it all. We have to keep all this to ourselves. It's only interesting if no-one knows about it.

Scorpio Nights was released some years back in the Philippines with English subs. This is the version that is on that illegal torrent site.

The print used is not very good - they just took it off an old Umatic tape. But the film is a classic and should be seen by everyone on this board. It's one of the best Filipino films ever.

The same director's Oro, Plata, Mata (Gold, Silver, Death) is also now available on DVD with English subs. Another great film (but not really a sexy one).

There's some good films on your list, but some absolute gems that aren't. A few of them were distributed in Italy back in the 80's and can be found dubbed in Italian on video. Often cut, however - Silip was cut by 30 minutes! A director called Tata Esteban (well, that was his pseudonym) made some interesting films in this genre before he got all religous. I think he's one of the best undiscovered film makers from the Philippines. He also did Alapaap (Clouds) and Magic of the Universe.

There are some sites on the internet (I think Fil Celebs is one) where you can see small clips and pics from Filipino sexy movies from the 70s up to the present. It's useful for academic (cough...) research.

Hmmm, if there was a DVD of SCORPIO NIGHTS and if someone has uploaded onto that 'torrent' site than surely someone out there must have a copy they could pass around via trade. Everyone keep there eyes and ears open! I must see it!

Pete, what are some of the other films not on the list? I will add them for our collective use.
AND are there any of these which are possible future releases from MM? And, I hate to sound like a broken record, but will SNAKE SISTERS see the light of day any time soon? I'm quite anxious to see it and I would like to see it done up right.

Off topic but still of interest:
A scene from an episode of the Filipino horror anthology series SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL directed by noted 'Bold' filmmaker Peque Gallaga. Just amazing. Never seen any of these movies before but now I guess I have to.

Hey Jack check out these stories from the Video 48 blog, it seems several 'bold' starlets came to tragic ends, and some just tragic lives in general. One might presume it was overall a bad place and time for a woman to be in the sex movie business.

Yeah, in fact I just watched it for the first time today all the way through. Don't think that movie's on the list. Also, I think I found a couple of films from a gray market guy here in the states. More info later.

Mondo Pete - April 13, 2009 12:31 PM (GMT)
Kira is one you can get from gray market lists. Kind of a rape/revenge movie with hardcore inserts. Stars George Estregan (king of filipino porn) and Mark Joseph (from Silip).

Mondo Pete - April 13, 2009 01:48 PM (GMT)
Oh, and Hubo sa Dilim (Naked in the Dark). That's a corker. It was released on VHS in Italy. But beware - there are two versions. One is slightly cut and does not have the infamous "samurai sword" sequence.

Bet you can't wait.

Jared - April 13, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
Yup, those are the two. And you're right, I can't wait.
Were there two different versions of NAKED IN THE DARK released in Italy? Because this is indeed the Italian VHS version, so I'm wonderin' if'n it's cut one or not.

Well, have a good time in RP. But if my experience (and lots of other guys I know) is anything to go by, you'll have a hard time finding that store with "hundreds of tapes all covered in fungus". Or if you do find it, you'll be lucky to locate anything of interest hidden under the mold.

But never say never, right...? :)

Mondo Pete - April 13, 2009 08:53 PM (GMT)
I've got two versions of Hubo sa Dilim. Both dubbed Italian. One slightly cut. So I guess it must have been released twice. But weird though, I agree

Jared - April 13, 2009 10:31 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the clarification. Luck of the draw then.
Re: finding Filipino tapes: Sometimes they just show up right at your door. A couple of years ago I was working at a used book/music/video store and what should show up in a batch of otherwise unassuming VHS tapes but a Fernando Poe Jr. fantasy/adventure thing with some serious horror overtones. A great movie (the title escapes me and the tape is boxed up) and a terrific find, except the tape itself is barely watchable, with distorion every 10-20 seconds. I made it most of the way through though. Maybe I can get it fixed someday?

stratagakis - May 3, 2009 04:26 PM (GMT)
hey ...

go to ... adultpinoy.com

they have alot of classic softcore/hardcore movies from the bold era of the 80's.

its not a very user friendly site, and you have to sign up in order to purchase the dvd's, which are copies from the original tapes.

also, if you make an order, these guys will rip you off on shipping charges if you live outside north america, so make sure you have afriend you can post it to locally, and ge them to post it to you via regular international mail.

it may seem like a bogus site, but they do deliver.

not sure if they have what the original lister wanted on this thread, but they do have some classic pene films like SABIK, DALAGITA, which i've heard in their full uncut version are pretty full on.

if you know a bit of the histiory behind the filipina industry in the 80's , then you will know that some of these actresses were underrage. hence, all the tragic ends to their short lived careers.

sordid stuff really, but there are some good ones on the site. good acting (for that kind of genre), and if you are a ma isabel lopez fan, you will find a few of her lesser seen films on this site.

happy shopping.

gorgeous georgious

im in the philipines now and in manila for the last week and i didnt find any tapes at all! oke one store had a bout 10 tapes lying in a corner, but robbin william movies dont really make my heart beat faster........

picked up a few vcds, daughter of zuma, couple of darnas, and some action movies. also a couple of westerns but they are probably based on usa westerns.

.................atleast the beer is cheap here...so one of my hobbies did get lucky

Unfortunately you don't have to live in a hot place to have wet weather ruin your tapes. Check these two tapes out which I found yesterday:

It`s same thing here in South Korea. Trying to find old tapes is like good luck!
Some video store (if not almost all of them) still carry tapes but they are all 1999-2000 until today... no old rare stuff. Fortunatly I found a way to track down old movies, but it took me 3 years. :( :D
