Title: Size Zero Clothes
Elvira - February 2, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
I've put this in the news section as it has been mentioned in the news a fair bit over the last few weeks. There are a few campaigns going on to try and ban size zero (equivelent to a UK size 4) models from the fashion shows as the women are literally killing themselves to be thin enough to model at these shows.
Anyway I went shopping at Asda this morning and was looking for a nice top to buy for Roxy. The childrens clothes only went up to age 12 so I told an assistant I was looking for something for a 13 year old girl and asked where the teenage clothes had been moved to. She told me that they no longer did a teenage range but they did do small sizes in the adults clothes to cater for this. I said that most of the adult clothes weren't suitable for her so she said they had a new range aimed at young girls starting at a size 4! She then took me to these clothes which were in the womens clothing section and looking at them they were clearly not styled for early teens. I told her I'd try elsewhere as my daughter was a size 8 and wouldn't wear what they had on offer anyway.
I was quite shocked that a shop like Asda would stock these small sizes and I dread to think what sort of message it's sending out to young girls/women. I shall of course be sending off an e-mail letting them know how disgusted I am with them for stocking clothes in these sizes, not that it will do any good

I think its disgusting too! I have a problem finding clothes for Jenny....even the simplest of clothes like a pair of Jeans are difficult because they are all cut to fit on the hip, and most barely cover the bum. Apart from the fact that it is inappropriate to wear clothes which are styled so as to show off as much body as possible, Jenny doesn't 'get' it and is always trying to pull her trousers up to her waist, which then means they are too big round the middle, and too short in the leg  not a great look
The message shops like ASDA are giving out is that it is normal to be able to fit your body into such tiny clothes. The clothes themselves re bad enough in the way they are styled....Does anyone else have similar problems?

I;ve had a constant battle with my weight which I am losing terribly. Its shops like this with their stick insect clothing that have put me off shopping altogether, there are so many shops I just dont even bother with.

Here here Mand. I hate shopping and don't go to many shops when i do have to get new clothes. Hence i tend to wear jeans and baggy sweatshirts!! I haven't a clue how to dress up - not had the need to as i don't go out!! Saddo eh? I hate to be made to feel like a fat freak and to top it off having 33-34 inside leg really doesn't help the situation. It's about time these designers stopped using stick insects and actually designed some beautiful clothes for the larger lady without the larger price tag. We can look lovely clothed in the right attire and why shouldn't we have that right too? Just maybe if we could look and feel good in nice clothes it would go to helping us lose weight anyway????

I got a reply:
Thank you for your message.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
As a family retailer we will not use size 4 models to promote George clothing.
We feel that stick thin models promote a negative body image for every day
women. It is for this reason that we use Colleen to promote George. Our teen
range has recently merged with our G21 fashion offer a size four is available
just in this range, previously this size was marked 11-12 year old and
represents less than 3% of the range. G21 is designed for 12 year olds and
upwards. It is very clear when looking at the clothes that they have been
designed specifically with appeal to teenagers. All our other ranges go from
size 8 to 26.
I do hope this help you and if I can be of any further assistance please do not
hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully

If anyone has seen these clothes they'll see straight away that they are not designed for teenagers, they look more like tsomething your granny would wear
