Title: Kill disabled tots, say top docs
Elvira - November 6, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
I read this article in the Sun today. I was so disgusted I felt physically sick. I've put the link to the story at the bottom as there's an option to comment on it.
'TOP doctors are calling for the right to kill disabled babies, it was revealed yesterday.
“Active euthanasia” should be considered for the overall good of families, claims a report by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology.
They believe it would spare parents the emotional burden and financial hardship of bringing up sick children.
The doctors also say mothers might be less likely to have late abortions.
It would allow them to decide after birth whether the child should live or die.
But top children’s doctor John Wyatt said: “Intentional killing is not part of medical care.
“Once you introduce intentional killing into medical practice you change the nature of medicine.”

Mammy was told that my brother Ross wouldn't make it. If doctors had taken the decision to take his life the world would have been robbed of this wonderful young man who brings love to everyone he meets.
Sarah's Shayla had to fight for life when she was born. I can't imagine the world without that feisty little smile.
What they are talking about here isn't kind for parents, it's murder and I can think of no other word for it.
How dare they try and say that the world would be a better place without these kids, how dare they assume they know what it's like to spend time in my shoes, how dare they offer to help by taking the burden away instead of offering the support we need to care for our kids.
Once again it boils down to whats cheaper, provide support or eradicate the problem

i wrote a huge reply to it, to which josh bless him was reading while i was typing and i was so engrossed that i hadnt even noticed.
His response................... REPORT THEM TO THE POLICE, they would get killed themself by the police.
He was kinda upset, but when i explained to him my views he was ok. As you can imagine my response was very lengthy. I tried to copy it here but it wouldnt let me :(.
Take a look, i used the same name i use here lol, to make finding it easier for anyone here who wants to read it.

Minxy said above and I quote:- How dare they try and say that the world would be a better place without these kids, how dare they assume they know what it's like to spend time in my shoes, how dare they offer to help by taking the burden away instead of offering the support we need to care for our kids.
It would be a better world without the likes of the DOCTORS for making these murderous claims. Disabled people ARE still Human Beings and most of them turn out to be a MILLION times better than the likes of these 'Doctors' whose job it is, to SAVE lives, NOT TAKE THEM because of a disability. Would they do it to one of their own? NO they wouldn't.

Well said Clare clap-ping I'm still spitting mad about this, for anyone even to think this they have to be sick in the head, it's just barbaric.

 i am still furious about this, so just had to post my reply here, Josh told me to write to Tony Blair and snitch on the doctors. Just thought i would post what i said here before doing just that. If anyone else feels as strongly about this, why not let them know, i am definately going to write to someone higher up than the newspaper and get my views heard, Its my new project. Anyone else want to be involved? let me know.
Sorry its so long winded, just had to put it here for.
Watch out for this angry mum on the news lol, they have a fight on their hands now lol.

Kill disabled tots, say top docs
I think this is absolutely outragious. How dare the Medical profession (if you can call it that), get away with making such a statement, and getting it into print. They should be struck off the medical register. Isnt medicine all about preserving life? isnt there such a thing as the sanctity of life? and dont we all have rights regardless of our age, creed, colour or abilities?
As a single mother of a child on the autistic spectrum i am furious that some person who things they are God (Obviously), thinks they can choose whether a child can live or not. If they had given me this option when my son was born i would have sued or worse still. I had no idea my son was autistic when he was born, and although i had my suspicions, did not get a diagnosis till earlier this year (he is now 7). If what this doctor says is true, and it gets passed through government (heaven forbid), am i to be given the choice whether he should live or die? along with all those wonderful people i have met in the same situation as me? And what about the adults that have lived a fulfilled life, that are managing wonderfully (and those that are struggling), do we simply have them 'put down' like animals, to make things EASIER for society to cope?
I simply couldnt make that choice, and despite all the difficulties faced on a daily basis with having someone on the autistic spectrum or any other disability for that matter, it isnt something that should even be thought about, let alone printed in a national newspaper.
My son has as much right to life as any other person who isnt faced with extra challenges in life. He is a remarkable young boy, who fits into society in a unique way, I would not change the way he is for anything, his disability is what makes my son who he is, and i for one, would not even herald a thought to killing him to make my life easier. This needs to be stopped before it even goes any further, no one has the right to end someones life regardless of the circumstances.

I am just so angry at the moment to write much but I will add to it later , When Ross was born we were told not to expect too much and if by some miracle he lived he would have no quality of life .. WELL they were wrong . Most of you know Ross . he was born with CP and is now a very handsome young man who is over 6 ft tall could charm the birds from the trees and has His HND in computing is now doing 2 Open University courses a BSc and a BA so has hs proven them all wrong . There are quite a few on this site and I am sure you will all back me up with what I Have just said ( especially Mandy ) his country is getting worse by the day . I saw a film yrs ago ( 1984) I thought at the time it was so unbeleviable and these things could never happen , but they have   and I HATE IT . Ross says if you dont mind he would like to add to this at some point

I wrote a letter to the Sun about this and they printed it a couple of weeks ago on one of the few days I didn't buy the paper. I only found out this morning when a cheque arrived with a payment and a note thanking me for the letter!
Did anyone else get theirs in?

i got my opinions onto the website, not got round to writing yet what with organising a house move lol, but its still on my mind to do so, Josh wants to write to Tony Blair, what good that would do lol, but i cant stop him, he is determined, so will let him write something shortly, if i can find the time. lol. Well done for having yours printed though, wished i had thought to write to the paper rather than on the website, i dont suppose many people read the website as much as the paper.
Enjoy the cheque.
