Title: Saluki hunting in mountain forest

Mark, everything is fine here. Timur became a serious hunting dog. I learned, watching him in action, that Saluki can chase and catch in the forested country as well. My Laika Nayda was digging in a hole and Timur was watching. The fox jumped out of another exit hole, but Timur chased and killed it. Yesterday, I saw how they flashed an animal out of the forest. A coyote run across the field and disappeared out of sight. I minute later Timur showed up from the forest and chased at high speed without seeing the animal. His direction was absolutely correct as I could see it. What guided him? Scent? I do not know. My Laika female Nayda followed him without seeing him as well; she was lagging behind, but her direction was also correct. I could wathc the events from a good vantage point. Weather was cal, moist and warm. Possibly the animal left a scent plume in the air.

Great to hear that timur is hunting well in your less than ideal hunting terrain for running dogs.

I love to see my Salukis running scents like you describe, it is amazing how accurately they can follow exactly where a Hare, Fox or Deer traveled maybe 10 or twenty minutes previously.

How are your other 2 doing?
