Thought this was the best place for it my mate hes certainly one famous producer and that particular strain was instrumental in the production of the merlin and eve line.
The lad took a gamble putting a pure to a lurcher no one had any confidence in the pups except him how right he was.

Will see what i can find out on Mac i believe Russ who owned prince knew him quite well. ;)
Prince was purchased in chesterfield and not from mac himself they were tall for pures prince standing 27 1/2 he was ran all of his working life down on the black land on the best hares Russ could find, being capable of twos and threes in an area where everyone struggled he would only run the once a week though or he wasnt as sharp.
No one had confidence when he bred prince to the lurcher gypsy [sister to Ringo 3x spewers winner] as a lot were buying f1s off of Lou [cugger] edwards also from a Notts village
this was in the late seventies he produced some great saluki xs but a pure over a lurcher everyone thought theyd be too slow.
I honestly believe that mating was one of the most important pieces of lurcher and saluki history after all what weve got now as has been said a few times and i agree totally is the creation of an english saluki type it remains to be seen if it will carry on as such what with the law etc but i certainly hope so.
Thirty years down the line now and the dogs are still as capable in many cases and the wooly coat is still about too id like to see that survive wolves in sheeps clothing them ones lookers as well as doers in my eyes.
The first litter eve had was to Rebel Gypsys brother that was the first time the long coat appeared and no merlin blood so its eves line that carry the longcoat gene four pups were put to sleep as the lads thought the coat was too much
:(

Excellent thread lads, it is truely fasinating stuff reading all the different types especially the Salukis that were instrumental producing what are without doubt some of the worlds best coursing dogs.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
