There were some lovely dogs thats for sure, they were slighty thicker set than my Salukis and some with shorter tails and legs but other than that they were Salukis like you might find anywhere.
I could of bought and few easily but the fact that there is no Pet Passport Scheme in Kazakhstan mean 6 months of quarantine back in the uk, easier to get the next generation of imported dogs from USA or EU countries.
I've been uploading some Photo's to
My Flick-r I'll be adding more as I get the time so keep checking.
Regards
Mark

Interesting Afghan-like tail on that last one. I do like the black bitch, too. Lovely balance and quite a baleful stare.
If you ever go again, shoot me a PM and we can arrange to ship dogs here to the US. I can import a dog that has not been vaxed for rabies as long as it is vaccinated within four days of arrival and is confined for thirty days at my home. Something to think about.
Looking forward to more pictures.

Hi there,
The black bitch was lovely a real character.
Two Tazi have been imported into the US from this trip. I'd be interested in bringing some Taigan back in the future but we have more than enough here for the time being. I would like to go back maybe to kyrgyzstan one.
How long would the imported dogs need to be in the US before they could be shipped to the uk under pet passport?

great pics mark did you get to see any of these dogs run if you did what sort of style did they have and what are they like stamina wise they do look very nice dogs
DeviodOvTalent - September 26, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
Under the Pet Passport thing they'd have to stay in the US for six months before being imported into the UK.

I thought that. How about pups born in the US? How long does it take to get them passported and ready to go?
I've put a few more photo's up still quite a few to go aswell.

Still takes six months, you have the have the dog microchipped, vaccinated for rabies, and then a rabies titer done, all at least six months before shipping the dog. It's a little
paranoid.I like
this dog a lot. Put a little more hair on him and you've got a nice COO Afghan.

Looking into it there seems to no easy route to bring dogs into the uk. In an ideal world a couple of 8 month old pups would be available from the US or EU fully passported and I would like to be able to simply bring them straight into the Uk without the need for quarantine. I just really dislike the idea of puppies being in quarantine kennels from 8 weeks to 8 months old.
Some certainly were like an intermediate between Afghans and Salukis. Most did carry more substance than you would generally see on the average Saluki.

mark do any and all imported dogs from kazahstan have to go to the us for quarantine or can they be brought straight to the uk for quarantine
DeviodOvTalent - October 7, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
That Pet Passport scheme seems to be set up to make it so complicated that nobody will try it.
brookie, in the US they don't make you leave the dog at a special kennel for quarantine. You can keep it at your house. I have two dogs from Canada, and the younger one was too young for rabies vax when they crossed the border and I just had to keep him at my house until he was old enough to be vaccinated and then thirty days past that.

I think your right there, give me a headache just thinking of the logistics of it all.
I am so envious of the system in the US.
No Brookie there is no requirement to take them the US, that was just an idea I had to avoid the quarantine by bringing dogs bred in the US from COO dogs them in under the Pet Passport Scheme but like Deviod Of Talent has said even that is not straight forwardas the pup would need to be 8 mouths old before it was ready to enter the uk with Passport. Thats a long time for anyone to keep a pup back and a lot of work to get it all passported.

i spoke to defra reps at crufts this year and i couldnt get over how complicated the pet passport scheme was i actually thought it is designed to stop you bringing dogs in full stop surely a blood test on entering and a later one say a month later and isolation at home im not saying open the flood gates and allow thousands of dogs in byt surely it could be made a lot easier than what it is nor am i suggesting we lower standards on desease prevention but it could be made less complicated

I totally agree, I think it is to stop the importing of dogs via the PPS, 4 or 5 years back only a few miles from where we live a man was biten and died as a result of a bat with rabies he was carrying out research on bats and refused the rabies vacine prior to working with them, apparently its is standard practice to be vacinated against rabies when working with bats. So in fact we (the uk) is not rabies free in anyways. Look at all the animals killed through foot and mouth a few years back, all could be vacinated against. It's all about being able to have disease free statue IMO.
