Saluki - June 19, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
The forum's a been a bit quiet of late, I've been so busy with work, dogs, horsey and donkey things I've had very little time or energy for anything else.

Saluki :
From spring to late autumn we all are out of door with our hounds at least 20 hours every day... - areīnt we? B)
^Especially if you live as we do around the year like this... you have a LOT to do and enjoy - itīs quite easy to forget All the Internet World :jumping:
^ ... and very often you HAVE TO escape to the Archipelago, to our Special Paradise on Earth Lat.59° 59,26' / Long. 22° 30,31' ... :)

can you call them off of chasing deer?
Saluki - May 3, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
I can if they are close enough to me and not too close to the deer I can stop them, once they have run say 40 yds on them there is nothing stopping them.
They generally respect that when stop them there is good reason for it, so long as you present them with enough game I find they will except your judgement. We Live on a sporting estate so I need to have the control.

Thats really good, I have always been impressed with how you handle your dogs!
We have loads of roe deer and fox where I walk. Spook was bad at first for chasing deer, not the least bit interested in fox, but he is much better now. Savannah will only run if she can get the boys to go she is too scared on her own. The lurcher is generally very good but he did tear his chest open chasing the deer. I stupidly thought he wouldn't go, I was too late as he was down the hill and across the field right behind the deer :o the barbed wire stopped him!
