Saluki - April 25, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)
:jawdrop: They are stunning hounds, I love the Nujaima and Tayra colour/markings. I wish I had the funds to bring in some COO bred Saluki/Tazi's, not That I am in anyway unhappy with my UK coursing bred Salukis but some good strong COO blood is sadly needed here my own Saluki's all closely bred.

Thanks, they're my pride and joy :)
Here are pics of Nujaima's sire Rafiq, whom I co-own with friends that he lives with. He's from Israel. In addition to being the sire of my N-litter, he just sired the first COO x Western litter ever bred in Finland. These pups, bred by kennel Larelinan, are a week old :)

Here is Safi, Israeli import, owned by friends and the sire of my H-litter:

And this is Susi Muehlemann's Syrian import Barak, who lives in Switzerland and is the sire of my T-litter - 10½ years old in the pictures:

Saluki - April 25, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
All wonderful hounds and such diversity of type. I often wonder which area produce the best all round hunting saluki's on the whole. For me feet is one of the most important thing as it tends to be damaged toes that brings about the end of Sighthounds hunting days, it is the Salukis ability to run over rough terrain without injury and of their stamina that first attracted me to them. I wonder if the Salukis from very sandy areas ,Saudi perhaps? Lack the strength that those salukis which run over rubble strewn plains like in T Clarks video's must have.
Having Saluki's from different areas what are your experiences with regards to feet and gaits etc linked to terrian?
shaairah - April 26, 2007 10:53 AM (GMT)
I've found no difference, neither Syrian nor Saudi feet have had any trouble running in our terrain, which is dense forrest, fields and rocky slopes. All seem to work fine and without injury.
In Syria I saw different kinds of feet - some tight with arched toes, others quite flat and not quite so tight. Since all were working hunters and on the same terrain, it seems both work okay.
By the way, when we were in Syria, rich Saudis were buying up good hunting hounds to bring back to Saudi - among those hounds were Khattaf's parents.

Is that henna on the dogs feet in the photo? I have seen it mentioned in my travels that they use henna on the feet of the dogs by way of protection from the heat of the sands?
shaairah - May 22, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Sorry not to have replied sooner, I've been offline for a while :)
Yes, that's henna on the feet and tail, used both to protect/harden the feet and for decoration.
I have some new pics, will post in a sec :)

Wow that is an impressive pack!!
Would love to see more pictures of Valo?
shaairah - May 23, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
Thanks :) Valo doesn't live with me, but as soon as his owner sends new pics, I'll post them. And I'll see him in a month or so which will be fun, I haven't seen him since I visited them when he was 8 months old. He's beautiful animal with a fun personality - he loves everyone :)
shaairah - May 23, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
To clarify, Valo, Heetti, Papu, Ilo, Sasu and Shadid make up my Qashani S-litter (Khattaf x Lublub). Of those only Shadid lives with me. I co-own Ilo with a friend of mine whom he lives with, and I've sold the others to good people on breeding terms, so that I can choose from the lot if and when I breed on from this litter :)
Sonneratti - May 24, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
