Title: History Lesson

I want a panal on the history of yaoi and fandom.

Hellsing wants a panal on the history of yuri and fandom. (Not flat out)

I think it could work out as a combination panal on the history yaoi and yuri.

Thoughts?

I've always wanted a panel on the history of yuri. Colossalcon's failed to impress. I'm all for it.

Agree'd. Just not a full blown out boring lecture though x.x not like a science type class one, but something though that keeps your attention.

Well, I think having media presentations and examples to back up and give examples to what's being said in the "lecture" would probably hold interest pretty well ^_~

It's an interesting idea, save for two problems. One is that some people just can't even stand one or the other (hypocrisy, imo, but whatever floats your barge) and that would drive away a lot of potential people. Second, who would do it? Are you offering to do the panel? Have you looked at how much information there is on both subjects? Unless you invent original content for Yuri (something I have absolutely no objections to) you have a disproportionate distribution. Another example is how most cons you go to have a yaoi panel (Otakon this year had three) and little to nothing in the way of Yuri. Acen this year had the most decent one I've seen and it was delivered by a guy. The Otakon Yuri panel was disappointing: it was even marked on the programming as "NOT 18+" if you can imagine such a thing. Not to shoot your idea to hell, but I don't think a combo panel will work.

We actually had a panel very much like this last year. It was a little more specific (focusing on fanfiction) but I think Carrie could probably expand past that. Next time I see her I'll ask her if she can do it.

Sometimes it's useful knowing a grad student who studies fetishistic elements of fandom!
