Title: Next Pokemon Generation: Diamond and Pearl
Description: Just some thoughts

Yuffie - June 26, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
Diamond and Pearl is the next in the generation, after some side games are released, Mystery Dungeon and Pokemon Ranger. Right now it’s going to be released in Japan in the Fall.

Another game? Can another game even be pulled off decently?

The advertising for the game at this point seems standard. Some little things tweaked, and a whole new set of pokemon!

It seems the pokemon designs have gone to hell. The few designs that have been released at this point of the new guys don’t seem all that promising to me. The only ones where any time seemed to have been taken are the cute little fluffballs.*

Is it just me, or does Lucario look like he was based off Sly Cooper?

Anyway, this is what known to be different about it.

1. Is going to be set in a whole new region, called Shinou.

Yet, players probably will be choose to select between a fire type, water type, or grass type, try to become pokemon masters, have to beat up nine gym leaders, beat up a bad evil force trying to corrupt the land, and walk through a forest near the beginning.

2. Capable of sending over pokemon from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Firered/Leafgreen after a criteria has been met.

That’s nice. Doesn’t give me a reason to get it.

3. New pokemon. Is there a need for more of the buggers?! A team consist of six pokemon, and with 380 something to choose from already is plenty.

4. The DS can link up with up to 16 other people in the union room.

A feature I’m glad to see. The wireless adapter is definitely a lot more convient to use. Though finding 16 people who would admit to playing pokemon and getting them together...

5. New type combos, such as steel/fighting.

6. Day/Night feature comes back.

I never liked that system, but a lot of people seem excited by that.

7. You can insert your own height and weight and compare it to pokemon.

...Why?

8. The pokenav is now a poketchi that contains various features such as type chart, watch, managing of pokemon in breeding center, a calculator, and more.

The breeding center feature would be time-saving. Everything else...

What the hell could a calculator be used for?

Although I suppose that might be an excuse to play video games instead of doing math homework, or even play it in math class!

...though would I want my test grade rely on a pokemon game...

9. Voice Chat with the use of the Nintendo WiFi connection!

If you have Wii. Shameless advertising Nintendo?

10. Linkable with Pokemon Revolution.

If you have Wii and the game. More shameless advertising?

11. The sprites of pokemon will vary if the pokemon are male or female. Not big changes, but they’re different.

Oh Romeo! Oh Juliet! We can tell each other apart!

The graphics are suppose to take a full advantage of the DS system. The released screen shots show a mixture between 2D and 3D, which kinda gives me the feel that I’m on a moving boat when the characters outside. The inside does look nice though. **

Since it hasn’t been released yet, not much is known, but I feel like that there should be more. What they have doesn’t really interest me. I guess after playing through the format several times, it would be nice for them to change things. I think changing the game around might help keep the fanbase it still has. Loyal fans will get the game, but as time continues, fans just give up and the fanbase keeps dropping...

Instead of standard battling through the gym leader, what about different ways that were done in pokemon side quests. Or beating a gym leader through a contest.

Maybe some mini-games with your pokemon? A couple were done in Leafgreen/Firered, though it required other people. The one I played with my friend was mindless, but fun. How about some single player ones?

Or things in the game that really screw things around. Maybe the player, for a part, could end up getting their teams switched with a NPC by accident, and for a small part have to think up how to play with pokemon they’re not familiar with.

Or a part where the player is forced to play with only one pokemon?

Someone was saying about choosing a pokemon in your party to follow you around, like pikachu in yellow. I’m not sure how possible that would, but that would be so damn cute.

Maybe they’re not great ideas, but they’re different.

I don’t really see much changing. As long as there is a chance it will bring in money with the same format, why would they bother to change it.

Other thoughts?

All I can say is this..
That's some freaky ass shit.
Mind if I steal this and post it on another forum? I think they'd enjoy it. Lol.

If you want to, go ahead! ^^

Wow, you've put a lot of thought into this! I like it!
I can't say I have strong feelings about any of this in general, though I agree about introducing new pokemon. The newer pokemon are lamer and lamer, and pokemon in general isn't nearly as big as it used to be. Where in the past a middleschooler couldn't survive without knowing his pidgy from his butterfree, today I can't imagine many kids knowing about cyndiquill or wabafett (outside of Super Smash Bros, that is). Where as the culture used to allow for people to memorized over 100 different critters, today I don't think there is enough fan-base to really allow for that many new pokemon, as it just complicates the game and makes it harder for fairwhether fans to jump into it.
Like for instance, I've never really played a pokemon game. I used to watch the show, and my brother did red and blue. I would play one it sometimes though, so I know the system, and just from growing up and watching the show, I know the original 150 (give or take a few). If out of bordom, nostolgia, or word of a really great game coming out, I could probably jump into it and have fun if I know the monsters, but as it is now I couldn't do it because it would take way to much work to learn about the things I was catching.

Yeah, everyones obcessed with their yugiohs and their exodias and kuribohs or whatever.

The DS is supposed to be like a palm pilot too. (in Japan they have dictionary's for the DS for Japanese) So I'm guessing the calculator helps in the game for something or just so you can turn the game on and have a caluculator when you need it. I'll probably get this game because I never touched the other new ones. (The last one was Crystal for me) They really don't need to add more pokemon...but some people won't buy it if it's the same pokemon over and over again. (though they have about the same moves as the others so which one would you really want?) I think it's neat that they finally make differences in them other than the male or female sign (Rumor was that women pokemon have stronger stats too. *not including training for a long time. ^_^ )

as for finding people-conventions! ^_^ Or little kids, but most little kids are getting PSP's just because their friends that no nothing of gaming have them or because they are "in style"

Yuffie - June 27, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
I dunno. The only people I know of who really like Yu-gi-oh is a couple of my friend's friends. I like playing it once in a while if I can borrow a deck from someone, though I don't really know the rules...same for Magic too except I kinda know those rules.

Eh, heh, kinda overthought. ^^;

My age group got caught up with the gold/silver generation instead of red/blue, so we knew are wobuffets and cyndiquills. When everyone was crazy over all that, it was mostly boys with a few girls...now though, most people I know would rather die then admit they played. Oddly enough, most of the people who still like pokemon are girls. o.o

I doubt I'll get diamond/pearl unless they really change the game. To me, it already feels like the have way too many pokemon, and out of the third generation, I like only about five or six designs. If I was to get it, I would probably play with the new buggers as far as I had to, then transfer my guys from Leafgreen. I like them. ^^

Convient dictionary-I want that!

Crystal was my last for awhile, but then I picked up Leafgreen.

Female rights! ^^ Or something. I always thought though that female pokemon had higher defense, while the males would have higher attack. It would be nice for there to be a reason to use female instead of male, since only males can pass TM attacks to offspring.

I've never found people at conventions, but I'm a little shy.

Kattywampus - April 22, 2007 06:13 AM (GMT)
Be hardcore! Get up at 8:30 tomorrow and get your copy!
I'm...I mean Lucario's gonna pick up my copy tomorrow, 'cause I'm a hardcore poke-fan! (And I like gettin' good pics)

P.S. I like the fact that there's too many monsters to memorize. I like surprises!

Yuffie - April 22, 2007 11:48 AM (GMT)
Heh, I've warmed up to it by now.

I wish I could, I have to go to church first. Although that does make sense...I did ask to skip church though and my mom's response was funny.

I wanted to go as my rocket grunt, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Heh, I can just imagine people going crazy seeing Lucario!

smokie - April 22, 2007 01:19 PM (GMT)
Maybe I should go into my local EB games covered in green paint with no shirt and leave with people wondering if I was a Snorlax or a Greenbay Packers fan.

"Hi I'd like a copy of Diamond and Madden '08 please"

rpb3000 - April 22, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
My GF picked it up today. I played it for a bit. Wasn't particularly impressed. Then again, I havn't been impressed with the franchise since Gold & Silver.

Drifter - April 22, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
PokeMon Blue Version, for the gameboy.

That's the last Pokemon game I played that was on a handheld.

Pokemon Staduim for the 64 was the only other one.

I never wanted another Pokemon game, I have too many others I've got my eyes on to much care. I still have a stack of cards in my closet, same with Yugioh...Never even used them. XD Should just give them away.

But, uh...yep, that's it. Blue Version > All.

smokie - April 23, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
Silver was the last one I bought and played and I have to say its the best. Just because you get to go to Jhoto and Kanto.

Yuffie - April 29, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
Those who've played, what do you guys think?

I'm in the 4th gym right now. The game has really surprised me...I mean, stylis this nice don't usually come with preordering!

To me, it really doesn't feel much at all like the old games, although the basic backbone is the same. Some things could have been better, such as the mix between 2D/3D graphics.

I tried the voice chat over ds, and was surprised to find how clear my friend's voices sounded. Even better then on a speaker phone, although it was a lot like one!

However, one things that makes the gameplay better is playing with friends, and right now, it feels like everyone is playing--I have not seen this many people playing a pokemon game at one time in a long time. Since I haven't played it by 'myself' yet, I can't really say if it's better then the old games or just feels that way due to not being the only one. Everything is different when you're essentially playing in a group.

smokie - April 29, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
I saw it and played a bit today at Walmart. It seemed alright.

Uematsufan - May 3, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
Beat the elite four last sunday, 8 days into the game, which is actually slow for me. They kicked my rear a few times and I have to say I was impressed at the challenge, then again I didnt have a full team per se, 3 level 50s and the Palkia I caught. Its not so bad of a game although Im not sure how many of these new ones will make it on my battle team

smokie - May 11, 2007 04:01 AM (GMT)
I just got Diamond. This is like my coolest game ever in Pokemon. I have all 3 starters. Chimchar, Pen-Pen Jr., and Chiapet. I had to play through the begining 5 times to do this. I traded my friend 2 Piplups, and 2 Turtwings since he got Chimchar as a starter. Then on my last game I picked Chimchar and caught a few early crap pokemon then traded those to him for a Piplup and a Turtwig. Plus they get boosted exp since they are traded! He also hooked me up with an Ultra Ball and some Hyper beam TMs since I helped him with some trade evolution so he could get Machamp and Alakazam. So yeah I'm going to murder all in my path until I hit the 3rd gym. Even then I doubt much will stop me. He also tipped me off to something I can use to help me train.

Yuffie - May 11, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
Wow. Nice friend! I've been using the GTS myself, just because.

I've been playing since it came out, still haven't hit the elite four. They look hard though I'm kinda scared of them. >.>

I can't remember it taking me this long to get through a pokemon game. There's just so much.

It doesn't help I'm being so easily distracted. x.x I have all three Wormadoms, and a Mothim and half of the Unowns.

I threw a quick ball at Dialga as a joke...and caught it. I still have my master ball!!

smokie - May 15, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
w00t! Made it through the Elite 4 twice now and I'm on my third go. They don't go down easy thats for damn sure. Completed the Sinoh dex so after this trip I think I'm going to catch the legendary Heatran.

I have to say I wasn't expecting much from Dimond and Pearl but it has really impressed me. If they remake Gold and Silver for this gen I will be estatic.

Yuffie - May 15, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Congrats Smokie! The Elite 4 keeps handing my ass to me.

I'm betting there will be a remake, it seems to hint in that direction. I'm hoping a lot, I really want to see a remake of gold and silver.

smokie - May 15, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
Don't feel bad about losing to them. I've made 4 trips through now and it hasn't gotten any easier beating them and I have all 3 starters. Although my Torterra has been neglected and is only level 52 but my Emploeon is level 69...heh 69 and my Infernape is level 68. If it wasn't for revives and hyperpotions it would take a team of level 90 badasses to make it through there. I need to find Larvatar so I can get Tyranitar and own the Elite Assholes for real. My Gible while in time will be a Garchomp just isn't as cool as Tyranitar.

Yuffie - May 15, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks.

I have an Arceus(the short story on how, a boy in advisory is very fond of me) that I want to wipe them out with. Not the first time though, I don't want to use a cheat pokemon for the first time.

smokie - May 15, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
I envy you.

Uematsufan - May 16, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
I can make it through the elite four steadily now, it just took me a few tries to do it, if anyone needs an Eevee because they dont want to bother finding them Ive got tons and I really really need a xerox, i mean ditto.

Yuffie - May 16, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
Eh, it's not legit. I had him make Arceus a shiny so that would be obvious.

The guys are too nice to me in advisory, there two and they both like to give me stuff, to the point it's kinda crazy. I think they just like to compete with each other over who can impress me more, I don't really understand it. I told one of them they kept spoiling me, and he just said so and shrugged it off.

Thanks for the offer, but I got too many of Shadowballing/Iron Tail eevees and Toxic eevees, and no ditto...

smokie - May 17, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
I caught Heatran! Now with him on my team and having leveled up Empoleon and Infernape a bit with clever strategy I can hand the Elite 4 their asses. I mean I could before but now I can do it with no pokemon getting knocked out and take most of them out in 1 hit.

Uematsufan - May 19, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
Muhahaha I imported my ditto squad from FireRed and now have what I need, let me know if you need anything and we'll swap friend codes and such and Ill see what I can do :D

smokie - May 19, 2007 03:03 AM (GMT)
I just caught Ditto! I have already got one Eevee now a level 30 Jolteon and another in an egg ready to hatch. Plus the Eevee I got from Bebe that is a Flareon thats knocking boots with the Ditto.

Yuffie - May 20, 2007 12:06 AM (GMT)
I think ditto must be the happiest pokemon in existance. If were a pokemon, I'd want to be one. >.>

I finally beat the Elite Four! This was my team,
Dialga lvl 49
Mismagius lvl 53
Lucario lvl 50
Infernape lvl 50
Gyarados <3 lvl 52
Pachirisu lvl 51

Yep, I leveled up a squirrel!

It's no surprise I had trouble actually, considering how badly balanced my team was. But I finally did it. ^_^

smokie - May 20, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Congrats!

amyloveyou87 - May 20, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
The last Pokemon game i played was Yellow, then i gave all of my card away and all of my 50 Burger King toys that i won "now i am kicking my self!" im into Pokemon agen i cant stop playing the new game.

Uematsufan - May 27, 2007 05:39 AM (GMT)
Maybe we can get Pokemon off the ground at 08', I kinda hope so by then I should be done with my team's EV's and all of that >.<

Yuffie - May 28, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
I think, but don't quote me, that there was hoping for that.

I don't like ev's, thus why I will never be a truely competitive player.
