Title: Dance
Description: what would you like to see

Kaisermikeb - May 18, 2006 10:51 AM (GMT)
What would you like to see in a dance? I know every con is always asking this, but hey... it's a tradition to ask!

Also, I never got much feedback on the dance this year. What did you all think?

rpb3000 - May 18, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
I always want to see more techno/happy hardcore rave music, flashing lights, and glowsticks! Sadly, this year I think I was at the dance for a total of maybe 5 minutes -_-;; So I really can't say what I thought of it.

I think it would be interesting to attempt to do a semi-formal cosplay ball with like waltzes and such. Might be amusing.

Mishikotoko - May 18, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
I will second the formal type ball. Although I would like to see it as a Cosplay Ball, even if it was more of a Formal Dance for everyone, I thik it would be fun.

Miccy - May 18, 2006 09:40 PM (GMT)
I agree with the formal thing. :3

Well at AP the rave was very chilled. I liked it, except for the fact most the time i was there, I was sitting selling the glowsticks. (Which I had fun doing coz people would talk to me)

But hopefully we can keep it cooled. :3 Coz thats a plus.

Vincent - May 19, 2006 10:22 AM (GMT)
yes. formal. Rave too. We should do both. Have the rave late at night for the owls out there and have the formal one a bit earlier for everyone who will be asleep by the time the rave starts.

Dildodo - May 19, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
It would be nice to have a rave that actually plays music from anime. I don't care if it's remixed or not if it's music most people can recognize.

Mishikotoko - May 19, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
The formal dance, could also play anime music, along with classic music.

Kaisermikeb - May 19, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
Well, there is no shortage of formal dance music from anime. I rather not have an entire formal ball, as that would step on matsuri's heals. I think it might be nice to mix in a few slow dances though.
Heh, though that would mean we would be turning this into a highschool dance!

Personally I'm ALWAYS in favor of having primarily anime music being played. I think that DJ's like to showcase their own stuff though...
Strangely enough, I had a dream about DJ'ing last night.

you should DJ part of the dance.

As for the school dance...well it shouldn't have the drama, that there is in high school at the dances...therefore it would still be different.

I have no problem with DJ's doing their own thing though.

I would like to see the glowsticks, ect... brought back though.

rpb3000 - May 19, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
If it's gonna be a rave, then most of the anime themes out there really aren't rave-worthy. Remixes would be great tho.

0DDJ0B - May 21, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
I want to DJ @ AP 2K7! :D
(Actually... I demand that I at least get some DJ time especially if I'm providing the sound equipment again. :P )

In fact... I do my own anime remixes that are pretty fast-paced. I'll post some samples up when I get home later tonight. I just finished building my new computer yesterday and I haven't had time to really install software on it (been running Prime 95 for the last 28 hours with no problems, so that's a good sign).

And on that note, I'm going back to work~

EnishiYukishirolover - June 9, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
Hehe :)

Just some slow dances would be good within the whole rave or like that, not a seperate formal dance, it would feel to much like school, that's a bad thing at a anime convention to be honest.

clamity - June 14, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
A few slow songs sounds pretty nice to add. ^.^ Great idea.

ladybiggs - June 27, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
I think next time, I would like to see myself at the dance ^__^;;

...I have no idea where I was when it was going on, probably being a dork doing Random Battle ^__^;;

BUT BEING A DORK ROXORZ MY SOXORZ!!!
//end lameness

How's a little bit of Heino trance?? XD (does it even exist????)

saturn - June 27, 2006 01:59 PM (GMT)
I think it would be cool to have a semi-formal ball like 7/8pm-10pm and then the Rave 10pm-4am or something.

People could make up their cosplays into what they would wear. Like someone as Minako would wear their princess dress or a dress that is yellow, Or Cloud dressed up in that Kinomo and wig, or Squall wearing his formal wear from the game, or just who you were cosplaying wear a different formal outfit.

You could also have it as part of the extra 5 dollars to get food there or entrance fee.

EnishiYukishirolover - June 28, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
I like Saturns Idea -unless your in the formal version of your cosplay character... then you just don't have to change-

But Saturn is on to something!

Vincent - June 28, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
I say we have a nude dance also.

*raises hand* I second that motion.

Masami Eiri - July 1, 2006 03:14 PM (GMT)
Since it seemed that we were already getting video games shown on the projectors, why not go with some more musical rave type games, and have them played with the music accompanying the dance.

Okay, that was my attempt at being generic, but what I really mean:
Our dance needs at least several songs done by playing Rez on a PS2 or Dreamcast with the pulsing techno beat that goes along with it.

saturn - July 3, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
That sounds like really neat lighting.

Masami Eiri - July 4, 2006 08:29 AM (GMT)
Might even pull in some of the types not accustomed to dancing so much, who knows?

Dizero - July 6, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
that rez thing sounds really awesome its something that could turn out to be a astronomical experience :D

Kuroshi - August 19, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
Find a fogmachine whose fog doesn't smell like old people?

Not saying that happened at last dance (I wasn't there, damn plague), but with fogmachines I've been by before..... eh

I agree with this idea. The formal would definitely be good to have before the rave! It sounds like a romantic type of idea. That would be really good, too, for people who can't/won't stay up all night and want to relax or something.

And my character's already in formal, too, so that helps. The $5 price; I'm not so sure.

Vincent - October 7, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
The real question though, is this. What if the person isen't cosplaying and/or the character they are cosplaying HAS no dressy clothes and it would be completely wierd to see them dressed up. Would they be excluded from the dance or just feel out of place?

Charisa - October 7, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
Crap, outta place, I guess. That's why there oughta be a rave too.

Vincent - October 7, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
I know there will be, it wouldn't be AP without one. xD It's like.. a requirement. But I'm saying is if one of those special cases like, REALLY wanted to go to the formal dance?

Charisa - October 7, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
(you??)

They could just make it a dress-down type of formal. What I mean is, if their character is in a drab kimono, replace it with a shiny, nice one. Or if they're a rough biker, just zazz it up a bit. You know, old, tattered leather, replced with shiny new leather. Just make it look NICE, not "formal" per se. My chara has changed, so I have to do that or feel left out.

Kaisermikeb - October 7, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
We already have a precident of respecting cosplay that is done "in the spirit of a character" (see the sites section on swim cosplay and apply to a formal).

Honestly I don't see much point in a formal, I think a few other cons have done that in the past to varying degree's of success, but as an end-of-the-world themed punk-rock convention, I think it might be a bit to classy for us.

There is also the matter of space, due to our larger number of unique events, the dance is already pushed back pretty late, and starts a good 2 or 3 hours after most cons dance's start. I may be moving our Anime-hell type thing on friday to a video room though, which would allow for a few more hours of main programming Friday night. I've got a number of ideas for that space, and if there is a lot of support for the formal dance idea I'd be willing to add it to the list of considerations.

Charisa - October 9, 2006 08:14 PM (GMT)
Well, a formal dance DOES sound like a bit much.

How about a few songs that are just less punk? I don't mean slow dances ONLY, I just mean, calmer songs every once and a while. That's not formal, but it seems like it could fit in better with the punk.

Kaisermikeb - October 9, 2006 08:38 PM (GMT)
punk rock has more to do with the attitude, not the music. Most of what gets played will invariably be techno.

I'm always for throwing in a few slow dances, but ultimately we leave things up to the guest DJ's, and generally try and respect their right to creative freedom. I may declare one of them a house DJ though and bend them around my will!

Charisa - October 9, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
That works. I'm a HUGE fan of techno. tongue.gif

DJPandable - November 1, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
We've got something so tremendously awesome planned for the dance this year that it may very well blow your mind (and your ears.)

That's about all I can say at this point.

Be there.

rikku7504 - November 13, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
Do a couple slow dances.

Kag-ST - November 16, 2006 06:29 PM (GMT)
Gregorioan Chant music should be played

thats my jam.......

rpb3000 - November 17, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
So let's see... slow dances... gregorian chant... techno...?

So our dance is going to be one long mix of Enigma?

Vincent - November 17, 2006 09:21 AM (GMT)
More or less.

Mishikotoko - November 17, 2006 01:47 PM (GMT)
Techno is something most con dances have. ^_~
