Title: E3 Afterthoughts
Mashidar - May 17, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
Now I didn't go to the show, and I tend to get all my information from different websites and I did watch the press conference shows online, well not the microsoft one cause it was not aired for some reason. o_O
But for those that do follow gaming, anyone have any thoughts about the aftermath?
-Ps3 pricing thoughts? Plan to get one? Games that were present?
-Xbox 360 games to come, Live Camera, Live Anywhere, Uno!
-Wii, functions of the controller, smash brothers game with solid snake and Pit.
Myself i don't think i'll get a PS3 at launch, the price just is something I don't think I want to pay, now this could change if something big is shown at launch, but the only two games that were shown that interested me were FFXIII and MGS 4 and that won't be till 07', 08' for those games.
I have a 360 and I like it, I enjoy the games that I do play and I look forward to alot of there games to come. N3, Viva Pinata (wife likes cute), Too Human looks intersting, Mobile Ops (the gundam in me says it will be fun), Enchanted Arms, and others.
The Wii on the other hand I know i'll buy, not only because of smash brothers, but I like the controller. The price will be cheeper i'm sure and I love party games, just need to get out more and find friends to play with besides the wife and the roommates. *laughs*
So i guess this thread is just to see how some of the resident anime fans are thinking in terms fo the gaming future.

I'm all for PS3. Blu-Ray playback! *drools* 'Sides, it'll end up with all the good RPGs, and I'm a solo gamer for the most part. Never really got into party games. The Wii seems like it's going to be a cheap fun toy, but not really serious. And I've never liked Microsoft's attempts at taking over the gaming market. They need to stick to computers, or, better yet, drop off the face of the earth completely.
'course, I won't have any of them for another couple of years when the price of all of them is a lot cheaper.

I've been really excited about the Revolution for a while now.
As most of the staffers have heard me say... Nintendo realized that the cube is strong enough to do more or less anything. Rather than making a new system that's the same thing but stronger (like the other two seem to be doing), they are going in a new direction for their new games. No longer are games held back by technology, the current platforms can more or less run anything they NEED to. The onlything that more power buys you is longer games ( which multiple disks work just fine for... except of the PSIIs that don't have a top loader) and better graphics.
The only thing better graphics buys you is Madden 200X and Squaresoft.
Wii will still have a controller for normal play, appears to be reverse compatible with the cube (and apparently a sega???) and offers a whole new range of games that are only possible on other systems with the buying of alternative controllers and such.
the 360 has totally failed to take off, they fucked up their launch, and they didn't wait until they had anything worth playing. The onlything that will bail its ass out is Halo 3, and with the lameness that was Halo 2 still leaving a bad taste in everyones mouth, I can see Halo 3 doing more harm to the Halo community than good to the 360, as a lot of people (like myself) will just bail on the game.
The PS3 is already following in those footsteps. With the launch price they are talking about, only the elite and rich will invest in one early on, and unless they have some SERIOUS SERIOUS games at launch, it's never going to build the base of people it needs to get some serious snowballing in sales. Even the latest Final Fantasys have been pretty lame, and XIII looks really generic and lame already. Maybe if they launched with KHIII they would have a chance, but I don't think the new FF's are enough to bridge the price gap. It's only saving grace is that the PS has always been the system for solo gamers (probably because it lacks the capability for party-games) so it can expect a long run with fairly constant levels of sales.
Of course, were Nintendo to compete for some good solo titles, Sony would be effectively dead in the water. Nintendo holds the party crowd tight, plus it has a loyal fanbase and a whole slue of knockout titles and dynasties even. Every attempt for a PS to make an icon has failed (hell, SCII more or less proved that only nintendo has token characters), and even Snake is comming to the Wii. If nintendo started getting serious with RPG type games, that would be just one more reason to stick to Nintendo, and the only edge Sony had would be gone. It would be left with its niche of rhythm and dance games, and shitty fighters like Tekken. While the niche dance and fighting game markets are not to be underestimated, they aren't enough to support a system, and are actually fairly issolated from the gaming community.

I'm all with Mike. I think PS3 is seriously a joke and will probably fall if it doesn't change...fast....like November...when it COMES OUT... Although the PS2 is great and was the best for last generation but PS3:
E3 last year: A box with a brick in it?
E3 this year: They changed the controller (Last week before E3) simular to the Wii (can we say Kirby Tilt n Tumble?) but it's not as "Gimmicky" as the Wii.
Sadly I was against the Wii name but it's grown on (being a Nintendo fan...) so yeah...
And ANOTHER DOA VOLLEYBALL?!?!?!?!?!?!
I swear....Xbox is for male porn...Halo=macho men and DOA=Sexy women...I also agree with Rail (I need the right name...^_^* gomen) and Xbox needs to die... other than Halo which is why everyone has the system in the first place (Halo/DOA) I guess I would consider it the "Males" Gaming system...because Xbox like it's "hardcore gamers" that only can be male.... :sniper:
But I'm really sad about PS3, it has some nice games like Final Fantasy but sadly (They are moving to Xbox and Nintendo *in a sense* ) IT COST WAY TOO MUCH!!! I DON'T CARE WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS. And even the Xbox representive said and I quote " Honestly you can buy a Xbox 360 and a Wii with a game for each for the price of a PS3"
600$ for the system with NO GAMES OR ASSESERIES then there is the 500$ for the system with a lower hard drive and missing something in the machine (I forgot what it was exactly) and you CAN NOT buy it back...So it's like you want to buy the COMPLETE Philosher's Stone or you want the Incomplete Stone or better yet, you want a broken one or a new one....
Games alone will be 80-90 dollars to make up for the cost of a 800$ system. Nintendo said they were keeping the prices the same because they want people to have more than FOUR GAMES a year.
And then all I can do is laugh that they took the rumble feature out of the controller in the last week and threw in "Kirby Tilt and Tumble" What were they thinking there...Nintendo's new gaming and Xbox's prices at a rip off.
I'm hoping maybe PS3 will GET IN GEAR...but yeah...Nintendo actually looks like it will be the winner once again (Last time it was with Super Nes). I do hope they get into RPG's again like in the SNES days, the party people and RPG people would be a great combo.
You can only go so far with graphics and I'm happy Nintendo figured that out already since Video Games are getting close to the "Golden Age" and everything will adventually begin to fall.

I don't know, hi-def TVs are rapidly replacing standards in households and the Wii's lack of hi-def support is kinda silly. If you compare them to cars, it's the like XBox 360 is a Hummer, the PS3 is a Mercedes and the Wii is a... Geo Metro?
Granted graphics don't make the game, but it's fun when a game looks pretty as well as plays great. And limiting just how pretty the game can look seemingly needlessly brushes me the wrong way.

I just hope next gen's HD support is actually well implemented, rather unlike this generation's. Especially when dealing with projectors, the support just isn't there, Xbox took memorizing the button combo from a normal hdtv b/c it's dashboard only outputs in interlaced, which doesn't work on your typical vga input projector, and ps2 is even worse about it. Haven't gottent to try gamecube much yet.

Just a few points. First off, don't be fooled: Blu-Ray isn't the reason for the delay of PS3. They already have third generation Blu-Ray players out commercially. In this case it actually works out kind of well. The pre-holiday season is the perfect time to release the world's cheapest BD Player. Oh yeah, it plays all your old Playstation games too (for those that have had them for ten years). If you want new games, there'll be about 15-20 at release (this is the reason for the delays: give devs a little more time).
XBox is, as usual, your worst choice here. To get the equivalent of what the PS3 gives, you'd have to buy an external HD-DVD drive (which most movie studios won't be supporting anyways) and pay for Live Gold service. The price delta quickly disappears. And it seems Sony finally realized that two controllers wasn't enough. You can have seven now. Yes, seven. (theoretically, anyways). All of them bluetooth wireless devices.
In a few ways, the extra $100 may be easy to dodge. The more expensive model has a 60 GB hard drive (rather than 20. It's upgradable anyways), HDMI support, a memory stick reader, and wifi built in. I'm not really going to take a stance on this. Unless you commonly cart memory cards around, this may be a problem. You can always add the card reader later if you really want it and it will still have wired ethernet (potentially removing the requirement for a card reader on the unit altogether). Not having HDMI doesn't prevent you from having HD either.
Nintendo's offereing was not wise to not have HD output, but with their target audience, it doesn't really matter. I am kind of irritated at how much the online arcade service has cooled from initial spec. It went from "all games" to "most games" to "all Nintendo games and many other developers" to "select games that we think you want" very quickly. Once they find a workaround for accessing the emulation software and running roms off of SD card, I'm there, though. There aren't enough N64 emulators that work halfway decently.
Wii is still a shitty name and the general public still doesn't like it. Grudging acceptance is more like it. Wii-Haa.
Finally! Region free gaming on a Son...Oh wait, there's PSP already.
Mike, I'm just going to ignore your post because, while you make some good points, it's a great deal of uninformed fud-slinging and I'd much rather watch Haruhi.
