Title: Series?
Description: A couple rooms showing series of a show?

Kikki - April 25, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
How about a few rooms showing the series of a show? Starting at episode #1 and getting as far as they can. Like maybe Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha or even Naruto. Just a suggestion.

pandad102 - April 25, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
I would like to see that but i don't think the ADV and others would....

Kaisermikeb - April 26, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
This idea has been tossed around, but we definatly wouldn't do it for shows that everyone has seen. That goes double for stuff that's on TV and tripple for stuff that is kind of bad (IY and Naruto... FMA is pretty solid).

Shows we might do this for would be things that actually work better as a complete series (lain, Eva, etc.) or maybe classics that everyone can relate to (Sailor Moon, Robotech, DBZ).

In five years Inu Yasha and Naruto will become the Sailor Moons and Dragon Ball Zs, but not yet.

EnishiYukishirolover - April 26, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
I have the sailor moon dvds and the lain ones.

What about Kiddy Grade?

I love robotech

Cardcaptor Sakura (Japanese version, not the crappy Nelvana dub). I have the manga yet I have only seen the movie uncut.

CLAMP School would be good too but no one has the licence to that in America.

Final Fantasy AC dub would be good too seeing that I wont get the dvd for awhile (SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE!)

Sailor Moon subs would be good too. Especially Sailor Stars.

Strife_Cloud - April 27, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
What Wolf says sounds good but I don't know about the sailor moon.... :domo:

FMA, FMP would be great....maybe some Gants too. Or even ones you don't see on TV.

EnishiYukishirolover - April 27, 2006 08:10 PM (GMT)
Hey, what ever works. I have the Sailor Stars by the way, don't ask me why either, they were a gift to me. Thats all.

Je_suis_moi - April 29, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
Fruits Basket!!!111oneone!!1!

Kaisermikeb - May 18, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
Does anyone have a decent chunk of DBZ on legit media? It might be cool to set up a hotel room on a DBZ marathon and see how far we can go into the show!

rpb3000 - May 18, 2006 01:43 PM (GMT)
I have a few of the movies' uncut releases, and I might be able to borrow my bro's copy of like the first season of DragonBall, but that's it. And I think the DragonBall's the edited version.

Kikki - May 25, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
DBZ sounds sweet! I'd be watchin' that! :D

SSJ Jup81 - August 10, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
*Late* Just really noticed this topic, but how about Dragon Ball as opposed to DBZ or DBGT? I'd also say how about Sailor Stars. There are fansubs of that floating around, better versions than what I had years ago. *Nods*

kalajessta - August 31, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
The only problem I see is with that is those shows that you have listed do show on Cartoon Network and generally they are shown in marathons, weekly episodes that do go in order, etc. I just don't see the point of showing shows like that at a convention. I always thought the point of a viewing room was to watch something new.

Well, technically, Sailor Stars would be "new", as it doesn't have a US release, and since the US license for the show was dropped anyway (to my knowledge), it's even more rare.

SSJ Jup81 - September 12, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
Hey all!! Since Deathnote should be getting an anime release soon, why not show that? It should get an official release eventually in the states...or maybe someone can bring a nice fansubbed version. tongue.gif

It hasn't been dubbed and will never will be. So I can see that being played in a video room. But the others, why bother? Unless a guest of the series came and promoted it, I don't see why they should be played. People can get access to them easily on Adult Swim.

Kaisermikeb - September 16, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
When can you see sailor moon on adult swim!?!

The idea is to show something that a massive ammount of fans can relate to. So many of us can remember watching sailor moon in the mornings, or later in the afternoons. It would be a solidarity kind of thing, and a good time to reminisce about the good old days.

rikku7504 - November 12, 2006 12:56 PM (GMT)
I would want to see Salior Moon sience i've never seen 1 of their episodes.............

Lilith's Dark Shadow - November 21, 2006 09:42 PM (GMT)
sailor moon hasn't been on adult swim... or CN for that matter, for years.

plus for anyone who has only seen it on CN will be able to avoid the ear bleeding dub, well the first two or three seasons' dub wasn't bad.

Please, god, I hope you're joking. When i consider dubs, I consider the whole package where applicable- that is, how much of the episode do they retain? Did they switch VAs again this week? Do the voices suit the characters? I truly don't believe that I'm the only one who thinks these kinds of things are important.

Lothlin - November 22, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
...They combined the first two episodes in one for the dub. And they changed every character's name.

It's a bad dub. End of story XD

Kaisermikeb - November 23, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
I'd say it was a bad release. A bad dub just implies the voiceing and sound engineering sucked. There can be a bad release with excellent voice acting.
On a side note, I don't think changing names automatically makes things a bad dub.

All things aside, the sailor moon release (dub job included) were pretty terrible.

Lilith's Dark Shadow - November 23, 2006 05:48 PM (GMT)
it could have been a lot worse however

Yeah, I suppose it could have been Nelvana's Cardcaptors, but that does nothing to vindicate it.

Vincent - November 23, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
I remember that! Waking up saturdays and watching sailor moon captain planet and megaman. Them was good times. Yep.

Ah, yeah, that's a better wording for things. I stand corrected, release, not dub. But yeah, neither were very good.

As far as the names go... er... In Sailor Moon, at least, it irked me, becuase the original artist actually took times to have the names mean things, and have references, and some of that just got thrown out of the window in the american release. On one hand, I can understand it, because I don't think a bunch of american preteen girls are going to get the 'rabbit in the moon' joke behind Usagi's name, but as a fan, it makes me twitch a little. (at least the manga stuck to calling her Bunny, instead of Serena, which made a little more sense... not that the manga was much better in keeping the translation accurate)

I can't think of any other anime off the top of my head that changes the names to such an extent, then again it's been a while since I've watched some of the older dubbed stuff. Then again, I may not have noticed because it probably wasn't as stupid as SM

Anyway. I'm fully in support of showing the Sailor StarS fansubs, I love them, and I'm sure there are people who haven't been lucky enough to see the Amazing Sparkly Sex-Change Sequence of Doom.

Vincent - November 24, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)
I got some crazy sailor moon box DVD thing from walmart.. It's like.. 3 DVDs.. and they are sailor moon movies or somethin.. I'm pretty sure you can watch them in Japanese with subtitles.. >>

Also the extreme butchering that went into combining Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada into Robotech (though to some it was apparently an improvement).

All the episodes cut out of DBZ (Yeah, they cut some out. Could you tell?).

With the emphasis here on some. Robotech made Roy Focker into a wimpy, that's-my-boy cheerleader to "Rick Hunter," and not the booze swillin', ass-kickin', Team America: World Police S.O.B. he was in Macross. Southern Cross and Mospeada might not have been the best animes ever made, but Macross seriously rawked.

I'll do you one name change better, though: Speed Racer. Heck, they even changed the chimp's name, for crying out loud!

With Dragonball it's different, though. It's like being continually beat over the head with a baseball bat; you're not going to notice the difference when one switches from aluminum to ash. It still hurts like hell.

Lothlin - November 24, 2006 11:36 PM (GMT)
Never watched Robotech, never watched enough speedracer to notice, but agreed on the Digimon; I need to get around to tracking the japanese so I can actually watch the episodes in order.

Bwahaha, how did I forget about DBZ? But still.... Was that series ever much besides testosterone and screaming even without the cuts?

Of course it was! Filler episodes! You're forgetting all the filler episodes!

And limited edition Super Evolved Saiyan 4 Goku dolls!

And the video games!

And the collectors cards!

Testosterone and screaming? Pshaw!

At least Robotech kept one thing:

Him getting some hot action with a mortal wound!
I think that single action qualifies as the most bad ass thing anyone has ever done: "I'm dying... hmm... better fuck"

smokie - November 27, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
Well when we actually started getting anime and what networks could get away with at the time its no surprise stuff gets butchered. I suppose we can look at it as even if it is changed a bit the more anime the better right? I mean Ghost Stroies the dubs completely changed it but I thought it was still pretty good. In some cases we get suff much worse than simple edits like I don't know not showing the 1st season of Yu Gi Oh! in the U.S.

And that's only in the fandom.
