Title: Fun with Kids!
Description: in a clean way

I want to have something for kids going on at all times. What are some kid oriented events/ panels that you think we could have?
Also, I was thinking since the hotel is sold out of suites, that we get a few hotel rooms at the end of a hall and make our own suite for the parties. Durring the day we could use those rooms as like a kids room, where they could be dropped off so that parents could go do other things and enjoy the con!
Is this idea good or not? Are there enough young parents out there into anime but unable to ditch the kids for a weekend that this would draw them in? Also, how would we man this room? Not all people are kid friendly/safe. I personally love kids, but tend to play too rough and break their cute little necks! Then I freak out and try to fix it but they won't stop crying and then they start making this horrible gurgling noise and I get all confused and anxious and shove them into a closet or drawer or something and run away.
At anyrate:
What are some kid events we can have?
Is a kid specific room a good idea, or a waste of space?

my idea is to have a age rating system for all events I'm gonna make a dummy event flier to show you what i mean we should make a badge for paents for a discount price and it's only value with their child thats just my idea

I think a Yu gi oh tourney is definetely in order. Whoever signs up gets a free homemade millenium puzzle. They'll love it. Does anyone still do Pokemon anymore, or is that like totally 1998 now?

I sold all mine, dammit. That was real fun too. Often copied, but never as good as the original.

I think kid rooms tend to be effective if there is babysitting going on. If the past too, I've seen it combined with the games room. (though teaching four year olds to play Doom may not have been the best thing)
If their is a kid's room, any anime related craft would be good, or just a craft. There would have to activities for older age groups, and just toys for the younger.
For the younger ones yet old enough to not eat crayon, there could be coloring pages.
Also, if you do an yu-gi-oh tournment you might want to bring extra decks for the kiddies who didn't think to bring theirs.
Also, showing them t.v. shows work, 'specially poke'mon. -ducks- But when you're little, the quality of anime isn't really important.
As for poke'mon card game...-play funeral tune- According to the guy who runs the card shop, it's dead.
Anyhow, for people to watch the kiddies, parents who were dropping off the kids could be required to do a shift of baby-sitting

Some other shows that might be good to show the little ones might be My Neighbor Totoro (I think that's how it's spelled), and um, um, more pokemon?
Also, board games should be an option. Monopoly, cards, all that junk...

I won't volunteer to baby sit!
If there will be enought interest, I can bring a few kid friendly games for the boardgame room.
Also there's a game called Clay-o-rama that could easily become make your own Pocket Monster (Pokemon)
If anyone has a good supply of play-doh or other kid friendly clay, let me know.
The only other need is about a 10'x10' play area, plus space for players. A hard floor is better so clay bits don't get squished into the carpet, but anywhere flat will do.
I've even seen adults(older kids) get into it crafting elaborate critters

It might not be a bad idea to have something for kids on hand just in case. Our target age range is near-college age people though, so I doubt to many will have kids yet.

Mike, it would be a good idea to have something set up. (even if it is only a small event for children.) And I doubt many will have children as well, then again those who do, may not want to leave their children. Could we play this "by ear" at the convention?

At Ohayo Con this year, they had a "kid" room which I thought was a waist of space. They only showed American stuff like My Little Ponies, Carebears, etc. I thought that was kind of pointless to have, especially if they have that stuff showing. I think though that their should be games, arts 'n crafts, such like origami, etc. That would keep the younger generations rather occupied if they are being chaperoned by their elder siblings or parents.

we can play it by ear. If there is a need then there will be a kids room.

I love kids. That's why I have eight of them. I volunteer to help! I'm very good at sitting on babies.
