Title: Kids room
Description: no rope or velcro
Kaisermikeb - June 14, 2005 07:59 AM (GMT)
One thing we like to have is a room that parents can be sure is safe for their kids 24 hours a day.
We could just show normal anime and stuff that is safe for all ages, but are there any specific blocks or events we should have?
Craig - June 14, 2005 08:49 AM (GMT)
I don't think it's possible to run a day-care (as that is what it would be) without certain licenses. better to not take the risk.
Just my 2 cents.
Kaisermikeb - June 14, 2005 04:29 PM (GMT)
wrong thread dude, this is for the kid-safe showing room, which we WILL have regardless.
Aurora - July 11, 2005 04:16 PM (GMT)
I guess for Kids, you would want lots of activities.
Maybe some color pages of various anime characters, crafts, stuff like that.
I know we took my niece to Otakon last year (she was 5 at the time) and she was really bored, because there was nothing for her to do. (mind you, my sister, a non-otaku, went with us). I mean, normally what I do at the cons is just walk around, take pictures, and go through the various panels. but that's my thing.
RBGCloud - July 12, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
Ooo! I have a Card Captors coloring book! I'll donate that to the kids' room, and you can have a coloring contest!
Oh, and it'd be fun to have a mini Japanese-class for the otaku in the making. ^_^
narultimatehero - July 15, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure I can use the image editor on my printer to take out all the color from pictures I sacan in. So I can scan in pictures from my Naruto artbook and reduced them to black-and-white for coloring. We could make a lot of coloring stuff this way...
As for crafts, I'm not sure... Oh, I know! make your own Naruto headband! Or design your own pirate flag, a la One Piece...
xxtra_large - September 4, 2005 05:09 AM (GMT)
aw, colouring and crafts. ;.;
you can be over 10 to hang out in this room, right? :D
Proman - September 4, 2005 06:06 AM (GMT)
You could have a separate cossplay event for kids under 12.

can we pit them in mortal combat against one another?
xxtra_large - September 4, 2005 07:05 AM (GMT)
little kid cosplayers would be too cute. >< there probably won't be many o-o but STILL. a little vash the stampede or a little puchiko winning a plushie would be the most adorable thing. ;.; IF THERES LITTLE KID COSPLAY, CAN I JUDGE IT.
i feel like such a pedo. :[

Well, duh.
Kitsula - September 9, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hrm... So far I think the craft ideas (coloring, headbands, and pirate flags) are great. We should probably explore that area further as it will keep the kids occupied and they'll be less likely to run all over the place... Perhaps some activities as well... What counts most here is just keeping them occupied.
:2cents:

Hmmm a kids room. Sounds like fun. Yay i'm old enough to run around on my own. Well you would be showing some anime shows right? So why not ask some people what their favorit anime was when they were younger was :D

Just from experience of walking past the "kids room" at Ohayo, only one or two soles where in it on and off. Do you really want to waist a room for that?

We aren't talking about Hello Kitty marathons here. It will just be a regular video room showing regular anime that just happens not to have the sort of content parents might object to. At least that's my understanding.

So Panda Kopanda == good, but Legend of the Overfiend == bad? Would this be for the whole con or just a few hours each day?
I think it's a good idea; hook 'em while they're young!
Kaisermikeb - January 22, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
The idea is that oh say, "Video 1" would be a safe haven for children at all times. That even at 3am at night a parent can feel that their child (be they 5 or 11 or whatever) will be able to enjoy the con without being exposed to peoples skin melting off.
At night we might consider going so far as having it be almost like a daycare, in that parents could keep their kids in that room while they go off and enjoy the more adult themed events of the con. The badgers would just have to make sure that those kids didn't wander out!
But either way, the idea is that nothing toxic would be shown. As far as I'm concerned, anything less than or equal to Shadowstar Narutaru in objectionable content is acceptable for this room.
rpb3000 - January 23, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
Some suggestions for anime to be shown, although they prolly are already obvious:
Akazukin Cha Cha
Digi Charat
Hamtaro
Monster Rancher
Some unedited versions of things kids like from Fox, ie Digimon movie, Pokémon eps, etc
Daicon opening animations
Azumanga Daioh
etc
Kaisermikeb - January 23, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
Ok, as cool as they are, you don't add the Daicon films to a showing list. It's very hard to schedule things when you have to adjust the schedule for a six and half minute block!!
I've got fansubs of the three pokemon episodes that were never shown, well... I think one of them eventually was or something. At anyrate, James with boobs.
Also... Monster Ranchers gets a big no. It's terrible, worse than bad. Log is to bad and Moster Ranchers is to good.
Other than that the list is decent. Remember, we are mainly focusing this disctinction on objectionable content, so we can still show stuff that is intelligent.
So for example, you could show Gundam, Ah! My Goddess, Slayers, Haibane Renmei, and Figure 17 (if none of them get naked or raped in the first four episodes).
That's another point, we probably show like 4 episodes tops of any given thing, so if the main character is brutally killed in Episode 5... it's still cool!

Whoa, whoa, whoa, you wanna show episode 37?!? You'll have them flopping like sea bass!
Having subs is all well and good, but I can tell you one thing -- I am a grade school teacher, after all -- is that your average kid hates subs. They'll watch One Piece all day... as long as it's in English. But if you make them read they're off faster than Michael Jackson's pants at Toys 'R Us.
We should keep that in mind if we want them to stay in the room.
Kaisermikeb - January 23, 2006 04:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I figure we'll show subbed when we can, and dubbed when we have to. Personally I don't have strong opinions on the sub-dub war as long as like... you don't commit any serious crimes against art.

What? Overfiend is totally kid-safe. I mean, nothing happens to prepubescent children, right?

We've considered making Anime Punch a combined anime convention/health fair, with free "epilepsy screenings".

Well, the Overfiend is reborn every 3000 years, so he's definitely a minor. Satan needs to give that crazy kid a timeout.
Recommendation for kid's room: Junkers Come Here.

I'm sure Dildodo knows.
