Title: Table Tops

Kyo_RBG - June 13, 2005 05:13 AM (GMT)
TOON, Also there is a White Wolf game that is based heavily off of anime, I can't remember the name of it but I do remember it was really fun and can be easily played at a PG-PG13 level with little to no problem.

i39021 - June 13, 2005 04:11 PM (GMT)
BESM
Big Eyes Small Mouth

It's an anime version of DnD

Kyo_RBG - June 13, 2005 05:49 PM (GMT)
The white wolf game is Called Exhalted and is an Anime fanboys dream Pen and Paper plus its white wolf easy system to learn.

i39021 - June 13, 2005 08:42 PM (GMT)
nice, i heard of exalted...it's just you need alotta d10's
BESM runs of of the d20 system

Kaisermikeb - June 16, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
Just a heads up, our gaming staff won't be with us until midseptember. Please keep giving suggestions and requesting events (perhaps a Diplomacy game that goes on all con?). Eventually we will get to them, but for the time being this area will have very little closure.

Hellsing - June 30, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
Can you tell more about BESM?
I"M not only an anime freak but a D&D freak.

Kaisermikeb - June 30, 2005 07:52 AM (GMT)
she's a freaky lady!

Um... BESM is just basically a large scale formula for anime RPG's, geared towards anime type characters.

Hellsing - June 30, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
do you know where I can find it?

Kaisermikeb - June 30, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
It's a book, so either a book store or like... Amazon.com

I have the first issue I think, but I'm in Cincinnati for the summer. If you want to go to the OSU anime club Friday July 8th, I should be there though and I could bring it along.

Keitarotard - July 18, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
One thing that i think would be awesome is to have players buy or rent tables early on in the con to play their own personally made RPG. My friend and I have created 2 RPG's that work great for Naruto and Halo. It would bring some more personality to the convention.

Kyo_RBG - July 18, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
Also i've built a few systems that could be used if someone wants to be brave.

Kaisermikeb - July 18, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
Hmm, right now we have six rooms for tabletop gaming. Perhaps one of them could be for custom RPG's! We'll schedule (or maybe sell) the time to people who want to try their games out in a public venue.

Do you think that would work? Or would the only people who play be the ones who made the games?

i39021 - July 22, 2005 04:30 PM (GMT)
if anyone needs a cpy of the besm manual i have it in a word file.... and printed...
I also have most of the dnd 3.5 stuff in pdf.... except the newest

MalkavianPranks - July 24, 2005 08:29 AM (GMT)
By the way, White Wolf has also made the Street Fighter role-playing game that is incredibly hard to find. If anyone has it or knows someone whom has it, I woul suggest having it at the con since it fits in the anime spectrum. And with Exalted, all you need on average for a game is about 5-10 d10s unless you get involved with the really hectic combats that require 11+ d10s.

BESM used to have its own system, and that system rocked. I am not sure about the d20 part of it but it does look fun. There is also a Slayers, Trigun, Inyuasha, and Cowboy Bebop d20 rpgs out there.

MalkavianPranks - July 26, 2005 09:14 AM (GMT)
A friend of mine and I have started working on a Mega Man role playing game since there are bajillion mega man games that are out there. So far it looks good however it uses the d20 system. We are still in phase 1 but I will see if I can get the kinks out of it for the con to run it.

Also there are a bunch of independant roleplaying games that have their own system out there that are anime based. I have one game that is called SpaceNinja XDO CyberCrisis. It looks very fun!

i39021 - August 16, 2005 09:15 PM (GMT)
I am making a d20 naruto game...... god is it hard to do

i am about 1/2 way there

Wyatt - August 17, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
Just to clarify, BESM is published by Gaurdians of Order and was originally based on the GoO Tri-Stat system which is more for free form gaming. The biggest advantage is that anyone who's lost three Yahtzee dice can play Tri-Stat: 2d6 required. I know all this because I'm looking at the BESM Rev 2 on my desk. BESM D20 was created for people that know D&D but don't want to learn a new system. D20 has...well if you're reading all this, you probably already know. BESM D20 and it's meca supplement were releaed for free on the internet in their "reference document" forms which includes everything related to play mechanics.

Back on topic, I've never played Vampire and am interested to try. Are there any storytellers here? I've also seen people playing Zombies! and think it looks like a riot.

PS: For those interested, I have a pdf of the old Palladium Press Robotech RPG. book.

inuyasha_goth - August 17, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)

inuyasha_goth - August 22, 2005 09:08 PM (GMT)
ok.kyo wanted me to explain world tree.

long in the future the world falls to peices but a single tree survives. Its so tall you cant even see the top.the braches on the tree are trees all by themselves.the sun was also destroyed so the fire god make a alternative.its a giant glass ball that ignites with fire each day and provides light until night time where the fire burns out and it rolls around a track so eevery area can receive light.there are diffrent species that live on the tree.

ziri:dragon folk. They are small versions of dragons.mostlly of the western breeds. They are mostlly immortalor live to be really old.((hundreds of years.sometimes thousands))they have intense fire powers and are mostlly mages or alchemist.they have a great advantage on the tree because they can fly everywhere.

rassimel:raccoon folk.Rassimel are simlple people.they are mostlly pick pockets, weapon crafters, archers, mages,or some related thing.Rassimel quick agilities make them great fighters and their ability to never sleep makes them quicker to get a job done.they have a knack in healoc((healing magic)) and puts it to good use.they are mostlly healers or archers. And when ever they get injured they can heal with in hours.they are also excellent rouges.they are good pickpockets and lock picks.

orren:otter folk.orren have the ability to turn into full otters and have the greatest power in water.good with almost every weapon the orren are great to have when your on a quest.

gormore:bear folk.some refreer to them as barbarians.they have great strenghts and they always lov to spare.they will spare for hours until one either gives up or they both pass out. They are good with smash type weapons and can do alot of damage with claws. They can also use thrown type weapons well too.they make really good body gaurds.

cani:dog folk.cani are the ones that are nobels and kings in the tree. They have great respect for their kind and most of the other kinds.they make friends really well with rassimel and orren.but quicklly lose friendships with orren due to oreens problems with obbsession from one thing then quicklly switching to another.walks on two legs.

sleeth:cat folk.A tight knit group of sleeth usally consit somewhere around 9 sleeth.they are fast and cunning and are good assassians.their sharps fangs and claws and keen sense is what makes them good for quest.they walk on all fours.

kythosis:squid folk.the most hated of all species in the tree.they hover instead of walking and they are incredblly stupid.they were made by the smae lazy goddess as the goremore which might explain their rude behavior.makes the worst compainons...

hethroy:bug folk.they are trusted alot in the tree.they know their way around and som have the ablitity to fight with multiple weapons.they sometimes can hold three or four at a time.

Kuroshi - August 28, 2005 01:46 AM (GMT)
You must play Werewolf/Mafia!

Kyo_RBG - August 28, 2005 04:34 AM (GMT)
I also play werewolf, Call of Cthulu, Second earth, Star Wars, and Apocalypse..... yeah I play alot of fucking games.

inuyasha_goth - August 31, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
Would you play world tree with me kyo?0_o

posyden - October 22, 2005 05:23 PM (GMT)
well we could always play the DBZ roleplaying game...and we could do a dice fanatics game where you actualyl roll the damage....

for those of you who don't know...the DBZ rpg attacks have gone as high as 150d6 damage....the book ruling is that for attacks of such high power you simply multiply the number of dice by 3(the average dice roll) and thats the damage...
well for those of you who think rolling 150d6 is bad ass...you should play this game

you know...I think thats a cool idea...and definately worth a shot..I mean it's pretty much how BESM was created

Kuroshi - October 23, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
Six rooms for tabletop gaming?

This is an anime con, not Origins, Mike. At most anime cons I've seen, one room usually suffices, maybe two.

posyden - October 23, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
yeah buy also most cons usually don't have access to 25 rooms..more like 10 rooms...so they can't afford to have 6 rooms dedicated to gaming....

and come on

BESM
DBZ
Sailor Moon
Tenchi Muyo
Mafia
Robotech
Street Fighter
TOON
FARPS
GURPS
Final Fantasy

all anime styled or anime based RPG's

Kaisermikeb - October 23, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
Kuroshi: We had the rooms, and they are kind of off on their own, so we figured "why not!" Plus they are all board rooms, so rather than having one big gaming room, it is like one room per game.

Now, if only we could get a game of Diplomacy going all con long!

posyden - October 23, 2005 06:22 PM (GMT)
I don't know about diplomacy...but I'm sure we could get some otaku to play a kick ass game of risk

Kaisermikeb - October 23, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
I wonder if there are any variants out there we can use.

Like... Escaflowne has a map or something, right? We could totally use that for axis and allies! Or better yet, use a september 0079 map for risk! Like... pre-odessa day!

Dr Bear Sex - October 24, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
Whoa, Axis and Allies, w00t.

inuyasha_goth - October 25, 2005 12:20 AM (GMT)
I had a question. Is there going to be any white wolf rpg's there?Like for example, exalted or world tree?maybe we can also play settlers!

I've actually spent a good deal of time trying to think of a good anime-based Diplomacy variant. It's hard. Most wars in anime involve two pretty much unitary powers. Dip is rather uninteresting as a Two player game; Risk is a bit better, but it really should be multiplayer. Two player games tend to work better when they're on the tactical end of the spectrum, rather than the diplomatic/strategic end. Dip's too abstract, and Risk is too random.

This is largely the same problem Diplomacy fans had with Middle Earth variants (of which there were zillions; apparently, lots of Diplomacy zines were also Tolkien fanzines).

Escaflowne could work, as it's got a bunch of independent states. Nausicaa could too, for that matter. Of course, the game would start out as more or less Zaibach/Torumekia vs. the world, but in Diplomacy, at least, these things have a way of balancing out. One could easily see alliances forming and breaking apart between the powers. Plus, there could be special rules for the expansion of the wasteland, hidden God-Soldiers, etc. Lots of potential here.

Crest/Banner of the Stars almost works, if one considers it reasonable for United Mankind to potentially break apart into its constituent parts, which might ally with the Abh. Not too compelling.

Gundam - Aside from a couple military insignificant neutral Sides, it's pretty much just the two combatants. I think Gundam would work better if we zoomed in a bit, to the scale of miniatures wargaming. We could try recreating something like Odessa, Solomon, or the AEUG assault on Jaburo in Zeta. I'm not necessarily advocating miniatures per se, just something with that level of granularity and slightly more realistic rules than stuff like Risk.

There's a lot of intrigue in Legnend of the Galactic Heroes, but most of it is within the two main combatants. It might work well with more of a role-playing/political simulation type game (like this: http://www.nsdmg.org/ ). We could have people representing various factions and interest groups (Trunhit and the PKU, the officers in the National Salvation Front (or whatever it was called), the peace movement, the anti-Lohengram nobility, etc.), with different players having different interests/victory conditions. Of course that wouldn't actually work, as there are so few Galatic Heroes fans in the world. Still, I'm positively inclined towards attempts to mix roleplaying and wargaming in an interesting way, if we found a better known universe to do it in.

Our gaming plans are still in the early stages, but it seems pretty probable there will be some Whie Wolfishness, esp. as they've been doing more anime-esque stuff lately. And I'd be up for Settlers. No way to anime-ify that without really stretching, but it's fun.

Kaisermikeb - October 25, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
On this note of anification, what anime worlds would be good to have a larp for?

Infinite Ryvious might be good, as there is a lot of different motivations in a single large society on a single space craft, and they all still have to work on that whole surviving thing. But this is the only one I can think of right now.

posyden - October 25, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
well..I'm not sure what you mean by anime worlds...
you could either mean a specific anime...
or just a genre of an anime world...

anyway...I suggest a sort of virtual world...that perhaps the characters have been trapped in...pulled from their own worlds....this does 5 things

1) makes a really simple reason why these characters are all together
2) places the characters into action right immediately after the introduction
3) makes the characters have to work together and interact
4) gives the characters long term goals (escape...and defeat the person(s) that trapped them)
5) gives the chracters short term goals (defeat viruses, solve puzzles...etc.)

the only thing I left out would be...why the characters were trapped in the first place

1) some freak really wants to have friends
2) some villian(s) want to destroy the universe so all of the heroes in the universe have been captured....
3) whatever the fuck else you can think of

Kuroshi - October 25, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
Let me tell you about the Matrix, Mr. Saotome...

posyden - October 25, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
dude..Fuck the Matrix...watching the Matrix was like watching an episode of DBZ on film...matrix can blow me

rpb3000 - October 25, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
I'd be up for a game of Risk if anyone wants to make an anime-based board. Ooh, or the game of (otaku) Life. ^_~
