A US state legislature has approved a bill to ban most abortions, in a move aimed to force the US Supreme Court to reconsider its key ruling on the issue. The South Dakota draft law - which needs approval by the governor, known to be against abortion - seeks jail for doctors who perform terminations. Exceptions will be made if a woman's life is at risk, but not for rape. ... It calls for jail sentences of five years for doctors who perform abortions, even in cases where the woman has been raped, her health is threatened or she became pregnant in an incestuous relationship. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4742404.stm

That is not right. I can see where they want to stop abortions. They took it a bit too far by not making exceptions for someone who has been raped.

Proposed amendments to the law to create exceptions to specifically protect the health of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest, were voted down. Also defeated was an amendment to put the proposal in the hands of voters. The bill as written does make an exception if the fetus dies during a doctor's attempt to save the mother's life. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=...s_abortion_dc_3

They didn't just forget they seem to have sadly decided against rape cases:
