Title: What is this I hear...
Description: ...about swimsuit cosplay???
Misato_Katsuragi - January 29, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
Ok, someone please elaborate for me...
Do you wear swimsuits as the character you cosplay, or is it just an excuse to see girls in their skinny minnies??

Probally both

This is actually intended to be a family safe event!
The idea is that you dress up in a swimable cosplay. we see three possibilities for this, but you're welcome to think of more
1) You cosplay a characters swimsuit chara-design from a show (IE: Chii's swimsuit from the beach episode of Chobits) So you might have the same swimsuit design (whether bought or made) as well as Chii hair and the ear-pieces.
1b) To expand on that idea, you may cosplay a character with recognizable hair or facial affects in the swimsuit they WOULD wear had they worn one in the series. This is kind of a lame stretch though...
2) You make a water-safe cosplay of a character. An example of this would be Rikku from FFX, whose costume might as well be a swimsuit.
3) You make a swimsuit variant of a character costume. For example you might wear a green swimsuit (possibly with a top part, like the old-style swimsuits) for Rock Lee, or a girl might make a Bikini version of an Eva Plugsuit, etc etc.
Basically, how you interpret this is up to you! Have fun and go wild, just make sure it's something you could wear on a public beach!

Dude, does Holiday Inn have a pool?
Kaisermikeb - January 29, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
Of course! How else could we do this?

We could have had one of those inflatable kiddy pools in the parking lot. That would be pretty hardcore. But, no, the hotel does have a nice indoor poor.
Do try to make your costumes for this water-safe. If it comes apart in the pool, that's a mess the hotel won't be happy about. And it would really suck if someone drowned under the weight of their Z'Gok costume.
(Mike, next time we're at the hotel, we should glance at the hotel's pool safety rules.)

The only thing unusual I remember was "No Beldandy cosplayers"
So, I think we are ok except for all the Ah! Megamisan cosplayers we see. Since there are so many of them these days....

mike, why are you discouraging people who would've otherwise cosplayed in a swim suit by providing them with different options. I mean, even I understand you want to keep this family freindly but what's the point of a "swim suit cossplay" if people are not in swm suits?
Kaisermikeb - January 30, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
well... they would ALL be swimsuits... right? I mean, that's the idea right?
Dildodo - January 30, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
Is it? It's just when I heard you say things like "swimsuit variant of a character costume" (do these actually exist?) I was picturing something like a full body suit.
Basically, I was taling about not encouraging people to be completely covered or at least suggesting that it's even an option. My...errr... mind works in weird ways you see... But I guess as long as it still a "swim suit"...
I suppose, I overreacted.

So, if I'm going as Ino, then a bikini whould be ok, right? (I guess a red one... hmm...)

To clear things up I thought I would photoshop some pretty pictures! (And by photoshop, I mean MS Paint)

I'll be using Mahoro to show the possibilities! Isn't she cute!
Type one: Taking a costume straight from the show. This is Mahoro's actual swimsuit from the show:

All the cosplayer would have to do is match the hair and buy a green swimsuit.
Type Two: Making an existing costume into a swimsuit.
This is Combat-ready Mahoro.
It would take some work, but using the right materials a talented cosplayer could make this swimsuit to be much like a wet suit. She would have to take care to use swimsuit-type materials though so it would be quick drying and not get to heavy when wet. I would also recommend not wearing the boots.
Type Three: Modifying a normal cosplay design into swimwear.
Here is a swim version of her maid outfit.

And here is a two piece version of the combat outfit!
Does this clear things up?
Mishikotoko - January 31, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
Well, it does for me. ^_^
Dildodo - January 31, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
