Title: AMVs
Description: What's your favorite?
rpb3000 - January 14, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Hey, here's a spot to talk about your favorite AMVs ^_^ List your top 5, and say what it is exactly that you like about AMVs.
Mine:
5. Doki Doki Productions - Right Now / Van Halen - Right Now
4. Random Variable Productions - Euphoria / Frou Frou - Must be Dreaming
3. Studerunker Studeosh - Football / Strongbad - The System is Down
2. Premonition Studios - Elvis vs. Anime / Elvis Presley vs. JXL - A Little Less Conversation (Remix Radio Edit)
1. Shonen Productions - Evangelion Opus / Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
I like AMVs that match the music. The more action that happens on beat, the better. I find stuff happening off beat to be distracting normally. Also good lip synching is a must. And if there is lip movement that isn't supposed to be lip synching, but it's close enough that it kind-of looks like it, that's distracting too. Also, if the action follows what the song is saying, that's always a bonus. Most AMVs with an original theme are really good tho. What do you like to see?

i will admit all of thouse are good... but they are all classics as well... my problem is i have had about 20 gigs worth... but through the years my comp crashed and i lost alot... i know my favs by seeing them... not by name
sakana_janai - January 14, 2006 06:34 PM (GMT)
My favorite is my own of course. I'm so vain, I admit it.
But my fave I've ever watched was Euphoria as well. Not only is it soooo well done, it got me into Frou Frou's music. So I highly reccomend that. And Tainted Doughnuts was one of the greats.
rpb3000 - January 14, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah Tainted Donuts is good too ^_^ And Euphoria's also what got me into Frou Frou's music. I like that style of music. It's kinda like an upbeat Enigma or something. Yum.

I haven't honestly seen much in the way of AMVs, but there's a couple I know that I like a lot.
NHMK - Eternal Damnation: ES Posthumus' Pompeii is so appropriate for Hellsing. A redux may be in order soon though...
Absolute Destiny - I Wish I Was a Lesbian: Hilarious and very well synched. FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Digi CHarat and something else that I don't know. Highly recommended.
sakana_janai - January 16, 2006 12:22 AM (GMT)
Oh the lesibain is a good one too. Or the "ugly girl" one- can't think of the exact name atm.
Dangit, anyone have any suggestions about actually converting my AMV? I can't seem to get it to work without crashing... and I'd love to submit it to the con.
rpb3000 - January 16, 2006 04:17 AM (GMT)
I've got Ugly Girls of Anime and Eternal Damnation, both are great ^_^ I'll have to get the lesbian one, hadn't heard of it before.
What are you converting from and to?
sakana_janai - January 16, 2006 05:00 AM (GMT)
From Adobe Premiere Pro to movie format. Every time I try my computer freezes and dies. I got a new video card, so I'm sure its not that. I'm thinking it needs new RAM or a processor, and I'm in the process of upgrading, but I still want to see what it looks like! ah! It used to work about halfway thru-- stupid computer!
But it will be awesome when its 100%. I'd say its about 90- since the only way I've ever watched it is thru the editing program itself.
And back to the subject- yes its the Ugly Girls of Anime. >< So funny- although I have seen some uglier ones! lol.
The Chibi Things that Kill is also great. I reccomend that one for a good laugh.

How much ram and processor speed do you have currently?
Also, what format are you going to? What format are your souce files in?
Wyatt - January 16, 2006 07:11 AM (GMT)
What are you using to convert? This is another concern as, unless her processor is overheating or she possibly has bad RAM, lock-ups are most likely software fault. What manner does it freeze?
Honestly, I never had any luck with the Premiere encoder: It always glitched or failed to compress well for me.
Masami Eiri - January 16, 2006 08:00 AM (GMT)
Drat... Adobe products are pretty much the main form of video encoding I haven't taken much time with, and the encoder does seem to be at fault in this case, my guess leastways. Bummer too, I sure hope you can get it working so we can all see it!

As I said, I'm upgrading the compy ATM so these are the specs as of now:
512 RAM (I know that needs improved big time- some of my games are lagging)
ATM Athalon XP 1500+ processor
Radeon 9800 XT Video card (as you can tell thats ALL I've upgraded)
And I know my motherboard is old. That I'm planning on replacing too.
And this is what I'm trying to do- I have my AMV pretty much done in Premerie. (I say pretty much because I know that I will have stuff to work on once I see it all together) I try going to convert or export to movie, and it starts, takes forever, then crashes. EVERY TIME. Is there any other way of converting it out of the program? I figured not since it was still saved under a Premiere file. And do you think upgrading it will help? If it doesn't I'm gonna cry- I've worked on this AMV so long I just want to see it finished and up on a big screen.
So, let me know guys! Thanks in advance!

what I do when it's time to export is restart the comp with nothing set to open, so I have absolutely nothing but adobe and windows running. That tends to help.
Another thing is what you export to. Try something easy like MPEG 4 or something the first time, before you go to DivX.
Also, if you were using encoded sourse (IE: Digisubs rather than DVD rips) you're going to have problems because a lot of times you can't go from A to B like that. NEVER use a digital fansub as a source, it will look like shit regardless of what you do. If you DID make that mistake, try to export to a DV AVI, it will be fucking huge, but it might work.
Also, give your computer the time it needs to work on it, and don't try to run anything else while it's doing it.
sakana_janai - January 16, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
I've tired shutting down everything (except the program and "Explorer") and it still doens't seem to work. Then I kick everyone off of the computer, and it runs, for about a half hour, then dies.
And yeah they are DVD rips, definately not fansubbed. I remember encoding them back in the day but I can't remember to what. Maybe I just used the whole thing, since I have the HDD space. Dunno
But I'll try the restart probably tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes!

What's a good video editing program to make amvs?
Proman - January 24, 2006 08:33 PM (GMT)
Generally, it's Adobe Premiere or Avid Xpress Pro if you're a PC user and Final Cut Pro if you're using a Mac.
rpb3000 - January 24, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
I've also heard of a lot of people using a program called "Vegas", which I know nothing about. And Premier's for Mac too, and both are way too expensive.
There's no open-source clones out there by any chance, are their?
Proman - January 25, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
I know Adobe Premiere is available for Mac, but a Mac user should use Final Cut Pro instead.
