Title: Stuff to work on, pre-lim
Description: responce to pandad part 2

Kaisermikeb - May 20, 2005 03:01 AM (GMT)
#21 I want to have a whole department of hallway stuff! Limbo contests, piniattas, etc. And to top it off, I'll put DJ-Ed incharge of it!

#22 - I like it, also under the non-room oriented stuff, we'll call it car-cosplay and have it in the parking lot! Winner gets a free carwash!!

#23 - Give me a list of emails and I'll give you a list of polite declines, but... like... someone should show, right?

#24 - Yes! On top of that, I want half the world of fandom planning this con. I want EVERYONE behind this!!

#25 - Yes, with a slue of other gameshows

#26 - by this do you mean in standard trivia, or anime trivia? Either way, I see potential!

#27 - with three days and late night rooms come more mature content, and you listed some of my favorite films. The question is... do we get a hentai room? And if we do, do we provide booze?

#28 - hmm... perhaps. Someone on staff would need to be a cosplayer though, to know what to have.

#29 - Columbus does have a large number of parades (including the feminism one... with a giant... nevermind) but we won't be near downtown columbus (probably). Mind you, if we're in easton, we can just parade around there! If the location permits, I'm all for it! It will be like an old-time freak out, minus hippies and plus swords and possibly a massive attack by the local SWAT team!

#30 - Dancing shall be had. I'm thinking one techno, and maybe a rock dance... to make up for almost certainly not having a concert! (unless we can get a SWEK or Sweat, or some other wanna-be anime band... no offence)

#31 - this will be a relaxation con! But yeah... I want to have a con-suite of sorts.

#32 - We'll have some sort of edumacational stuff. Maybe even dedicate one panel room to PURELY EDUCATIONAL panels. Still.. .I'm not sure we could get that many. We'll at least bring back the "How to speak japanese like not moron" panel.

#33 - way to continue to miss the point! This might work were our burns well though-out and intelligent. Still, maybe have a "My favorite anime is the best" panel where everyone has a chance to loudly argue over why it's better, and a panel of judges decides who has the most compelling arguments. House rule though... X can't win!

#34 - heh heh heh... you know... we all thought that watching WLIA a few years ago on TV would be enough prep, and I think we did a good job. It was just scary getting on stage and realizing that these skits have names... that the audience all seemed to know! But yeah, I've already got a list of stuff to do for next year. The props will always be audience made though.

#35 - Only if stripping is allowed and encouraged and we do it in the hentai room.

#36 - I've been pushing this idea at various cons for quite some time, and I think it's time to make it happen! And to be sneaky bastards, we'll do it durring cosplay judging!

#37 - This could be in the Oregon Trail room

#38 - I am very divided on this one. For one, I don't want to say no, and it would be awesome. But on the other hand, if these people are going to be driving... We'll see.

#39 - Good plan. We'll get that cool old black guy whose really nice. Also that scary-ass scrawney white guy who doesn't actually seem to be tied to a magazine but just takes lots and lots of pictures of hot girls. Actually, we'll make him the con photographer!

#40 - you couldn't round it off to 40? Well here's one. Someone said their girlfriend was the winner of the art contest? If she is interested in claiming her prize (and becomming out graphic designer for this year) please have her contact us immediately, or contact us and tell us she isn't. We need to know so we can find someone else if need be. This will be a great way to promote her art and get her name out there if she has further art ambitions, and if not, will still be cool to have done!

Otherwise, keep the ideas flowing!!

Hi! Panda told me that you were aksing about me. ^_^ I'd love to take you up on that offer and work on the art. Is there and specific theme or color scheme you want? Go ahead and either let me know here or email me, whatever works for you.

Kaisermikeb - May 24, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
As far as theme goes, I'd like it to be something that reflects the nature of our con.
Our mascot is supposed to be a karate girl (a white-belt) who may or may not be featured beating up other convention mascots.

Email me your AIM or telephone so we can talk a little more about this, if you want.

neilworms - May 25, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
I jsut thought of an idea, (I"ll probably have more when I have a bit more time to post).

I'd like a room devoted to documentaries on anime, IE makings of that come with anime films, or a film I just got which is entirely about animator Yasou Otsuka that wasp produced by Studio Ghibli...

Might be a good way to get people to know a bit more what goes on behind the scenes of anime production....

tenchid12@hotmail.com Never got either Sorry commucation errors :)

Two words, Drama Room. Everyone who has been to at least one convention has seen somebody crying off to the side or banging their head against the wall. With this room we could take all the little kill joys and sweep them under the carpet. There could even be staff councilors who could help them out or push them over the edge to suicide, which ever is more fun. But seriously this is a happy place for happy people; sadduns need to be shuffled away.

Another idea is that there could be a reward and punishment system given out by the con staff. Basically if a person at the con does something that a staff person likes they get a star, or some funnier thing that I can't think of. The punishments could be in the form of post-it or some other note attached to cloths, badge, or what ever they will have that alerts other staffers and people at the con that they are a bad person. For instance "Hey, guys, I don't get it" or "Annoying!" and so on.

Prozac_Avenger - June 2, 2005 11:42 AM (GMT)
Also there could be prizes given people with the most kudos. The great thing about this game is that it is arbitrary; what one staffer likes another may despise.

pandad102 - June 2, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
lol thats simply mad but amusing

Kaisermikeb - June 3, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
I like the gold star idea! I'm not sure we could convince people to wear the demerits though! Maybe we won't tell them what the color coding means!

As for the drama room, if you can find a way to keep them in there, that would really make things easier on the rest of us!

Which raises the question... The slutty rebound lay room?

Prozac_Avenger - June 3, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Upon reading the previous thread I have this to say; for the love of god do not hire SWEK to play at the convention. Please I am begging you.

Craig - June 3, 2005 08:03 AM (GMT)
Demerits and reward stars are an absolutely horrible idea. Way to make the con unfun. You'll have people sucking up to staffers and people won't be to keen on getting a demerit. Let alone would they wear it.

Neil - How many people do you think would really take the time to sit through those when there is shopping to be done, video gaming, actual anime, etc. You've got to take into consideration that the majority of con goers are going to want to do the above things. I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just saying maybe we should have that movie area placed in a smaller room.

If you're going to have any 18+ (which would be a plus so people don't think it's just a kid con) areas please be very strict about ages. I know it will break some 17 year old's heart but no I.D. no looky. Valid state I.D, passport, etc, only.

A lost and found area. Have the person describe what they lost, colors, and identifying marks so they arn't just going in and taking shit. A con attendant will look at the object and then ahve the person describe it. Thus ultimately preventing an incident that happened in the art room this year that involved "Isn't this you're art?!?" .

CON SECURITY!!!!
Very Yes. Even if they're uniform doesn't suggest they are actually security and just STAFF. You're going to want people wandering the halls not just looking for people who are causing trouble or breaking things or having sex in the hallways. But it'd also be good if someone is lost or needs help finding something. A person can goto this highly identifiable con staff member and ask them a question. It doesn't even have to go as far as uniforms (as some staffers might like to cosplay) as it does reliable and noticeable badges that arn't exactly strips of T-shirt and sharpe marker :P

Kaisermikeb - June 3, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
If I read the suggestion correctly, demerits are actually more comical than negative like "spills stuff" or "on the rag"... ok... maybe that is negative!

At anyrate, there is a certain randomness factor that is gained by having conflicting demerits and merits on one badge, and as long as they don't actually mean anything, it doesn't really matter! If someone wants to suck up for 50 gold stars... go for it! suck up to me and you'll get the red star of doom!
...at the same time, buying stars would be a difficult task requiring money and knowledge of where one finds star stickers. Also, distributing them to staff would be a bitch...
Maybe each staffer gets ONE star to use as they like. That would give it a lot of meaning, maybe too much meaning!
Oh well... we'll keep thinking about it, but I like the idea of forced positive interaction between staff and congoers! I mean, negative is essential, but some cons lack a positive connection at all.

The bad dub room, documentary room, and communal playing of old videogames (like oregon trail) will be in either very small rooms we don't need, or in hotel rooms the con gives us for free.

As for checking ID... give us some credit! We don't really want to have any "corruption of a minor" charges against us! (though come to think of it, most hentai is technically unrated... I wonder what the actual law on that stuff is? I mean... if you can have animated porn with minors in it, can minors watch animated porn?)

Right now the plan is to have security dress as the shinsen gumi and wander the con in a big pack, bullying people, knocking stuff over, and generally being something you want to avoid harrassing you, but if you ask real nice they might tell you where the dealers room is!

And I've said this before: DON'T INSULT THE ARMBANDS. FRIENDLY CON-CITIZENS LOVE THE ARMBANDS. THE ARMBANDS ARE KIND. THE ARMBANDS ARE FAIR. YOU LOVE THE ARMBAND. YOU WANT THE ARMBAND TO LOVE YOU.

Craig - June 3, 2005 04:46 PM (GMT)
I'm just giving you hell for the arm bands just because I can giggle at them. Anyway I think the old video games is a pretty good idea. Rocking Ye Olde NES and SNES and so forth at the con would be really rad.

pandad102 - June 3, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
New idea!!! Computer Room! so people can check email and do super fast lj posts or whatever like a 10 min time limit of each use or somthing

Craig - June 3, 2005 11:55 PM (GMT)
Or bring your own rig. Then you could announce lan partys and maybe ever CLAN vs CLAN games.

EDIT: was reading master post and lol'd when it said Car-Cosplay. More like carsplay am i rite!?!?

Kaisermikeb - June 4, 2005 04:22 AM (GMT)
You guys really need to start new threads for new ideas! Read the allmighty pinned topic!

The hotel has a highspeed wireless lan which we WILL make use of. The con ops will hopefully have a computer with internet and a con-only message board!

I made those arm bands out of my very own T-shirts with my very own hand!

And yes. This year the Arm Bands will be much better. They're going to be 3 inch wide very brightly colored fabric that I will go to JoAnns or where ever and actually sew.

This year it suddenly occured to us at like 2 am before the con that we hadn't actually made anything to distinguish the staff from everyone else.

Craig - June 5, 2005 09:01 AM (GMT)
I'd gladly wear one of those damn arm bands as a symbol of pride. Infact I think the original staffers should wear them as well as the new ones as a symbol of being a grizzled staff veteran.
