Title: Pros and cons

Zeo - April 13, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
allright

Game room:

Pros: Most TVS IN ONE PLACE I'VE EVER SEEN, that includes sakura con 05 and 06.

Pros: Game variety and helpful staff.

Pros: thas flast sceen was awesome

Cons: Tournaments canceled left and right, if its not popular enough to run at site, put online signups up a couple months before hand. I guarantee you we could have had a meaningful Melee tourney that way.

Cons: i mentioned this before, and again, when switching games out, try not to leave them sit on the table after you hand out the other one, easiest way for them to walk. but at least you guys are smarter then Ohaycon with no leaving a stack of 25 games sit on the table besides the system......

Cons: LIGHTING. A dark game room is three things, a tripping hazard, a secuirty hazard, and conductive to finding people asleep inthe corners.

Panels:

Sorry guys but most the panels were etiher one of 2 things. A. Very nice workshops that are verty niche spefic, or b. so freaking general tha there was no way o plan them out properly, and hence ended up meandering around until they got cut on time because they wer elate to begin with.

hentia olympics being a main one. game suggestion for hentai Olympics: The kiss and tell game. You get some people, blind fold them, then get random people from the audience ot kiss them, and then ask them if it was a guy or girl. winner;s the one the gets the most right.

really the only thing really interesting in the entire panel was the corset tossing.

Othjer suggestions:

Spin the kunai needs to be an event of its own, and there needs to be one for 13-16 and one for 17/18+ AND NO CAMERAS.

no business for a 26 year old to even consider it with 14 year olds in the game, and with things going to myspace on the spot.......

I know, nothing wrong with vampires, but they do need to Ask first.

I think it would work better if we had a better spinning surface and what not.

Am I the only one who found Spin the Kunai either a) disturbing, B) Really immature and c) Completely inapporiate

Apparently some staffers got weirded out by that too.

It's really not that immature if you're in middle school. Other than that, it's just an act of desparation.

spin the kunai was not, in fact, my idea contrary to popular belief, but in fact the brain child of none other than the hinata i was with, the hinata who won the award in the cosplay contest. but I helped start both of them.

Zeo - April 13, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)

enough about spin the kunai, its either a fantasy come true, or beneath you, we all get it.

what about the other parts of the post?

The good thing is the more orginized line thing. A smart move with the handing out of the fliers deal.
More diverse gaming in the gaming room.

I found the layout out of the hotel for the 'con somewhat confusing.

Saranashi - April 14, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
mostly this year were awesome pros. the registrationwas great. i ouldnt prereg in time and was expecting to wai in a very loooonnnggg line but i wasin and out in like 10 minutes. awesome. your anime sucks was awesome this year. my bestest friend got cattleproded by mike. hsu nami was hard to get into but rocked really hard when i acctually did. and basicly everything else.

the only cons i could this of are the layout of the hotel(really, i just miss the atrium and fountains), the programming was a little like...everything awesome for 3 hours then nothing that great for another 4, and then the rave dj's couldve been better.

i seriously love anime punch and everything thgat goes along with it. staff, con-goers, guests, etc. i really just have love for all you guys and 95% of what you do.
rock on.

Other than the kunai thing (seriously, if you want to be an attention whore so badly, go somewhere else and do it). My complaints are more dealers and pre-screening of skits if possible. The skits were okay but the last one, the guy looked like he was drunk and I think I saw him at the bar that day.

Everything else turned out great.

another reason why it doesn't need t be in the hallway........but in its own room.

True that. I know, for only a 3rd year con it can be hard to get a nice dealers room.

The videogame vendor was awesome. The DVD and manga vendor was pretty cool. The rest was crap, IMO. Button and keychain dealers are kinda pointless, that's what the artist alley is for.

Tekkoshocon was also this weekend in Pittsburgh. A lot of the regular dealers chose to go there because it's bigger. If AP is able to be on a different weekend then Tekkosho next year then they will get more dealers.

Everyone I knew, including myself, really enjoyed the fact that reg was quick, easy, and most of all, cheap.

I personally loved that the gaming room was really dark. It's not hard to not trip over things as long as it's kept clean and you're aware of your surroundings. If you're not aware, you're just as likely to trip in a bright area.

More DJ's would have been nice. Would have been easier on the DJ's aswell.

Did anyone else think that the hotel's hallways were really really really long? I felt like I was walking for hours before I reached the end of one hallway.

If there isn't a rule for "no hanging out in the elevators" there should be, especially when everyone is trying to get on the elevator and there's no room.

I thought that the con as a whole was fairly well organized.

Am I the only one that loved the fact that the rooms were very clearly labeled?
It's always frustrating going into a new building looking for a panel labeled as panel room 3 on the schedule, but labeled Johnsonfergustien room on the map or in the hallway. I thought AP did an awesome job making things easy to find.

AndraiaTower - April 15, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
My con complaint goes out to a con-goer and I'm upset with the staff for not keeping that con-goer in check.

This con-goer gropped my boyfriend while passing him in the hallway and then approached him with suggestions of 'I really like your outfit, why don't you take it off? I can take my clothes off too.'

I had to approach this con-goer and tell her he was taken so she would back off. That should not have been necessary.

Then sunday while walking with my friend Bunnerz who was cosplaying as Aeris, this same con-goer slapped the back of Bunnerz butt with her whip as she passed her in the hallway with the comment of 'Hey there Aeris'. I later saw her slap the back of a Squall cosplayers butt too and then she made the comment later that day of 'I slapped someone so hard with my whip that it broke.'

That kind of shit just REALLY pisses me off because it happens a lot to me and I don't apprecaite that kind of attention. Neither does a lot of people that that happened to at this con. This isn't an issue a lot of people can speak up about, because no one likes to talk about being molested or whipped. Hell no one should have that happen to them at a convention unless there is an agreement between both parties.

I want action to be taken so that my friends don't have to face that another year. Harsher punishments for reported sexual harrasments.

I don't get it. I mean, I understand that some people might be embarrassed about talking about it for whatever reason, but I don't get why that stops people from speaking up. If you don't do it, it's just going to keep happening, so get it together and do something.

People, you don't have to scream it out to all of Con Ops if you don't want to. Grab a staffer, briefly describe the problem, and they'll relay what needs to be done to everyone else. You can get the message out without depriving yourself of your privacy. So do it.

AndraiaTower - April 15, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
The thing is that all that happens when a con-goer is reported is they get a warning, that's it. Oh and the con-goer also knows that you reported them. A second one and usually that person is kicked out, but they have to be reported at two seperate times. So if two people are harrased and decide to tell staff then it's considered as one event and so it's only a warning. Also those two seperate times have to be reported between the time when the staff do find the person and let them know they have a warning. So if group A reports a problem, and a Group B comes by to report that problem it still counts as a first warning because staff haven't found the person yet. In essence it almost is useless.

I know this because it happened to me last year at AnimePunch, and the staff explained it to me.

Lothlin - April 15, 2008 01:37 AM (GMT)
Did you report it? If we don't know about it, it's kind of hard to control it, you know?

On the other hand, if you did report it... huh. I honestly don't know, maybe someone talked to her and she decided not to listen?

That said, I know the girl you're talking about, she tried to even hit me during the Pokemon Battle Event when I was helping out Kyo. I pretty much put a stop to it before she could do it, and I can guarentee you that if she had done it anyway it would have been resulted in me reporting her to conops myself. I'm really sorry for not realizing she could have being doing that, without permission, all weekend. I fully agree, harassment is definately one thing that cannot be tolerated.

EDIT: Ack, I didn't see your post while I was posted. Again, I'm really sorry that you had to experience something like that.

Come to think of it, I was walking around with a friend of mine and a girl grabbed my butt and then later she came and grabbed my friend's butt too. Him and I didn't really get a good look at her though. It may be the same girl? I don't know. She didn't really do it repeatedly and she kinda ran off after doing it, so I just shook it off. I can't believe she was whipping people though. D:

First off, I apologize AndraiaTower, seeing as I obviously offended you. But to clear a couple of things up, in all honesty, I was not whipping people – it was a tap. I only whipped when people asked for it. You should have told me that you took a strong offense, and I would have stopped. It's rather hard to know that someone is taking offense when I had a large multitude of people approach me, asking for it. The only reason that my whip broke, was because some guy had asked me to whip his arm because “he had no feeling in it”. So, I did what he asked, and he said I didn't do it hard enough. I did it again, and it still “wasn't hard enough”. The last time I tried, the tip of the whip snapped, and unraveled. He was perfectly alright though, but he thought I was pissed off at him because it broke.

Secondly, if I tapped your boyfriend/girlfriend and you did not approve, I also apologize. None of it was for real. I'm a lesbian, so it's not like I'll attempt to steal your boyfriend, and I'm currently in a relationship, so if flirted with your girl, I wasn't serious. Yes, I made flirty hints, and suggestions, but I never actually DID anything. I only kissed someone if it was for fan-service pictures, or for the 15mins that I played spin-the-kunai and left.

Furthermore, I did not molest anyone. The only people whom I actually touched, were people I knew, and people that were cool with it. I did nothing that over-stepped the boundaries that me and my girlfriend set for this con.

And Sesshouga, that probably wasn't me. I used the whip, and unless you and I were on friendly/cool terms, I wouldn't have touched your butt.

However, what I did come to find, from what others told me, is that people were copying me, Itachi, and Naruto in some of the antics that I/we did, aka: what I was known for.

So yeah. Once again, I apologize, but it REALLY would have been nice if you approached me directly about this.

sesshouga - April 15, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
Oh, that's fine Gravity Kills. I didn't have too much of a problem with it whether it would have been you or not. I guess it was another girl. Thanks for clearing up this issue though ^_^

Don't do it again. If you did that to me, I would have reported you. A guy tried something similar to me at ACEN last year and I reported his ass to my dad and con security. Got kicked out too.

From program guide:

Rule 3) We can't be ever where at once, if you see something that isn't right, tell us!
Rule 5) If you have a problem, and wait 3 days after the con to mention it, then you have lost the right to complain about it. Tell us, not your damn blog. Your blog won't fix things for next year, we might.
Rule 21) being aware of a problem and not reporting it to staff is just as bad as actively creating a problem. Report all issues to con ops.

You didn't report the claim to conops, I know this because all claims were recorded. No, we aren't going to kick someone out of the con based on one persons claim, but we WILL say something to her, and we WILL let our guys know to keep an eye on her. If you don't say anything, then HOW THE FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO SOMETHING about it?!?!?!
Who knows how many other people were allowed to feel uncomfortable because YOU waited until today to say something about it? Saying something now is just bitching for the sake of bitching. You have a complaint with staff, but you did nothing to alert staff to the problem.

TO EVERYONE: AT THIS OR ANY CONVENTION, YOU MUST ALWAYS REPORT SUSPICIOUS OR BLATANTLY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR TO CONVENTION STAFF.

GravityKills:Whatever your game was, it sounds lame. Grow up and learn some social graces, or at least some common sense.

on the subject of the dealers room: We only have so much space, so we can only have so many dealers. I'm going to be weeding some out this year though, and replacing them with some new ones so at the very least we have a wider selection.

Those are the only things I have to respond on right now. I'm glad so many people really enjoyed the convention. I also liked LightningFox's post.

What I did is report it AND post on the forums sunday to remind them. IE I spoke to someone about my equipment, but i wanted it in writing too.

as for idiosd, the only REAL problem I had was some of the non con guests harrsing us for cosplaying......can;t do anything about it though, so yeah.....

Oh and the elevator tag people............come on it was hard enough to get on them, esp liugging all those bags upstairs at 10:30 saturday.

Mike: From what I know I can't report these acts if I was not the 'victim' in them, and I wasn't. I encouraged my boyfriend to talk to staff about it but he was only annoyed and concerned with the fact that since he didn't have a badge so he wasn't sure he could be helped. (In other words he didn't want to point it out to anyone or make a scene). Even though I wasn't directly affected I wanted to point it out for future cons, I know that obviously nothing can be done now but I am glad GravityKills made a public apology.

KaiserMikeB - April 15, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
So everyone knows:
ANYONE can report ANYTHING to conops. Reporting something that just seems fishy is encouraged. 9/10 times it will turn out to be ok, or nothing, or whatever, but there is always that 10% chance that we'll bust someone stealing, or get a girl out of an uncomfortable situation, or bust someone for being high, or something.
My staff is trained to be pretty cool about stuff, and to not go overboard or fly off the handle over nothing, so you're not going to risk fucking something up for someone if it turns out to be nothing. And if it IS something, you become a HERO!!
