Title: My thoughts
Description: mostly positive stuff

First off, I loved the con. I was only there from like 12-12 on Saturday, but still.

DDR setup- not that great. I appreciate the work that went into the wooden pads, but they really weren't that great. The ignitions were good while they lasted.

Game room- really good. I like how it felt like a LAN party, even though there was very little, if any LAN going on. Just the darkness and all the bawls, and how the systems were set up in that quasi-classroom style.
Regarding that classroom style, it definitely helped get more TVs and consoles in there, it probably made it more crowded.
Having the vendors in there was a great idea.

Rock band and guitar hero- Good idea for having Rock Band in it's own room. It was nice to have the sound system, and it would've definitely been a pain in the ass in the main room. And props for no GH (as far as I saw), since I'm REALLY tired of hearing Dragonforce at cons.

Panels- better than ohayocon's, for sure. Good job, guys. Props to whoever did the super robots and macross panels, those were sweet. Also, in the super robots panel, what was that file you had with the shitload of openings?

Location- now, this is the thing that I didn't like. It was in a cozy little spot, but it was pretty far from any food locations. This didn't affect me that much, since I drove. But I'd imagine that the walk to Wendy's was really bad. Then I noticed how there were a ton of hotels around the area with Wendy's and all those other places. I'm sure you guys probably got some deal with the Crowne, but getting a hotel closer to food places would've been a good idea.

Anyways, great con and I'm looking forward to '09.

I have to agree, I liked the choice of panals. I went to a few, and enjoyed them immensely.

The main complaint I got though was the wish for more programming/panals, and I agree. There was a few times I wanted to panal, and nothing interested me, mostly Saturday evening(9 pm to 11 pm was the big one for me) and Sunday morning. And I would have liked more options of panals.

I was bothered by the DDR room, also.

You didn't go into a tournament did you? I don't think I saw you at ALL yet again.

They should just have music games in their own room again. That PoMu set up was LOUD.

No. We probably did cross paths, though, since I was playing Pop'n every now and then.

the problem with the area (71 / 161) is the crowne plaza has the most meeting space of all of those hotels. I assume you were referring to all the hotels along 161.

If you remember the first year of matsuricon, you'll realize how small the other hotel's meeting spaces are.

I agree it was not convenient for walking for food, but the weather was kinda iffy anyways for that.

it also wasn't conductive for getting around. it reminded of a homely version of a freaking military base, every hall way looks the same, and there's alot of hem.

I didn't have much trouble with the hallways, though admittedly, I also managed to figure out the absolute labryinth that was Sugoi07 without too much trouble. Maybe I'm just epic with hallways?

Bar lack of a centralized Atrium, I thought the Crowne was pretty good. And I tell you, I LOVED the wide hallways. There were only a few points during the weekend that I got caught in choking traffic, and that was usually when an event had let out.

Labyrinthine hallways never used to bother me until my meoroy got stolen by 50+ hour weeks at Subway. a good 12 of those often unpaid overtime.......

What maze? There were TWO hallways! If what you wanted to see wasn't on the one hallway, look down the other!

I liked the way the hotel was like a giant circle. That way I'd never have to turn around and run through the halls searching for something, then look stupid.

Like Lothlin said, I remember the Halls of Sugoi '07 and it WAS a maze until you realized you could ignore half the hotel. It was great hearing people get literally LOST and unable to find their way out. But by Saturday everyone knew it.

That said, AP was the most simplistic layout ever really. Two halls IS all there was. I was always helpful in guiding people to where they were going, but the answer to "Where is this room" was always one of two things.

1. Turn around, you just walked past it
2. Your standing right next to it

The entire lower level had a total of three hallways, and one had nothing to do with the con. But the Hallways were nice and wide, I never had to fight to get through them even when we lugged al the equipment around for the dance show sat.

Also, did anyone realize there was a back entrance to the video rooms straight from the elevators where badges weren't being checked? Kinda defeats the purpose, though I still must give kudos on the rush job. The only problem I had was when I ended up an inch away from some guys face before realizing the thing was plugged in on the other side and had a really short cord. xD

I noticed that and took advantage of it. I loved the way that the whole place was like a circle and I didn't have to walk all the way around the hotel if I wanted to get from the elevators to the video rooms or whatever.

It amused me how few people realized that.

It really wasn't that big of a deal, as the Videos/Panels were out of the way and we were kind of short of staff to badge check the hallway.

We were going to get one on each end of the hallway, but set up that one side as the priority.

Almost everyone came from that side.

I doubt that anyone would expend any effort to sneak into the video rooms or panels.
