Title: does anyone feel this cons a little differint?
raver - March 26, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
so i love conventions, i look forward to all of them and ive tried to go to all of them in the tristate area, but this con is definitly the... most differint one yet.. any 1 agree..
its supposed to be college aged.. i dont see that happening after observing the forums.
japanese culture is left out? wtf?
i cant find the random forums so i posted here if its wrong feel free to delete... and lastly does anyone ever feel that convention forums alwayse get too uptight.. its not just this one, and maybe its just me but it seems like moderators watch what you say alot more visciously than before
Rakuen - March 26, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
Nah, there's just a conspiracy against you.
bluenigma - March 26, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
I'd actually call it a cabal, but we're just getting into semantics there.

Wow.
I suspect by the way you spell, your college aged?
because im differint alot two. an iz a "anime" convection and who would ever suspect... anime... at a anime convention!
Anyway, this post made me lol. xP
Rakuen - March 26, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
Perhaps junta would be even more appropriate.

You could try under the heading "random."
Lothlin - March 26, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
I'm surprised Mike hasn't replied to this one yet XD
What do you see non-college aged about it? I dunno, I think we like to do a good job weeding out people who decide that acting like a ten year old is a good idea. Mind though, this is the forum for the con and not the con itsself, and of course there are going to be situations where folks act a bit more kiddish.
Japanese culture is left out because... this is an anime con, not a japanese culture con; if you really want to experience some bits of japanese culture, there are tons of other wonderful conventions in this state that bost a selection of panels and events related to it. Thus, we fill a bit of a niche that isn't covered - a con that focuses almost entirely on anime. It's not bad or good (though we are awesome, being awesome people,) but, take it as it is.
...though, to be honest, I'm not quite sure what you mean by your last point. That said, the random forums are a bit farther down.

Raver got one of her posts deleted by Mike a few days ago.
Miccy - March 26, 2008 02:44 AM (GMT)
LOL! Lothlin, you nailed it.
Codi - March 26, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
You know, reading the site and just reading in general could answer a lot of the questions/concerns you have.
I'm amused by the fact that all you got from this is "college-aged con" and not seen *why* we market it like that. (Look at all of our guests/panels, they're all academic in some way.)
Our mission statement is also on the very front page of our
site:
| QUOTE |
| 3) We are an ANIME convention, not a everything remotely Japanese plus online crazes convention. |
What we're all about is plastered all over the site! Forums barely speak for the con at large.
We're "differint" because we want to be. And most everyone else (sans.. I mean except people who think every con should be cookie-cutter and cater to every Japanese and internet thing) respects us for it.
LaughingmanGITS - March 26, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
DRAT! Anime Punch's dastardly plan of being a primarily ANIME convention has been brought into light! Now it's only a matter of time until they make the connection between Anime and the name Anime Punch!
REPENT! REPENT!
ALL YE WHO HAVE SEEN THIS THREAD! REPENT AND PRAY TO BE STRUCK BLIND!
KaiserMikeB - March 26, 2008 07:11 AM (GMT)
Our goal is to be different. If we seem like every other convention then we've failed.
I have little interest in suffering fools lightly. I don't censor, restrict, or delete well written posts by intelligent people. I have no issues with deleting mindless trash posted by meanlingless fools.
Just something to consider.

so... really thats what i mean by the 10yr old attitude, yea i can push the down button jcomfc, (if u dont know what it means tough), and their isnt a random section for random posts like most cons have, im glad its mostly anime but its still a lil strict but i guess french, mexican, german and others can make anime too so its not quite an all japanese thing, although they satated it and all othr countries hale in comparion of anime. i just hope when i get there it will be more college aged and less college class although i am suprised that no one has tried to give me a lesson in spelling yet.. yeah i know i cant spell but if u understand it its fine right?
Lothlin - March 26, 2008 02:26 PM (GMT)
No, dude, anime pretty much exclusively refers to japanese animation. Avatar is probably the only non-Japanese show I know of that manages to show that other countries' animators might hit on that particular style, that said, it has differences that seperate it from anime.
You want a random board? We have FOUR. Look harder.
And a suggestion; if you're going to be complaining that we aren't acting 'college aged' (what, sarcasm isn't a thing collegiate level students can do now?) use a spellchecker.
Krissy - March 26, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
I love you Lothlin. You say everything I want to say. Only nicer.
Anime = Japanimation = Japanese animation
Lothlin - March 26, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
Well, I think my bitch stick must be in hiding, because I certainly can be a huge one XDDDDD
KaiserMikeB - March 26, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
Raver, we always sass fools who show up on the forum. We intentionally drive away anyone who acts like they are 14, or is too stupid/immature to type a propper post.
There is no German anime. There is no French anime. There is ONE French manga, but that is moot because we don't do manga.
As for college "class", the majority of our panels are academically grounded, hosted by professors, graduate students, and fandom experts. If you don't want to go to class you are going to the wrong convention. We're not just about fun and games here, we're about seriously deeping your knoweldge and understanding of anime. I recommend bringing a notebook along.

I think Ben stole it from you when you woke him up playing the drums.
LaughingmanGITS - March 26, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
While I don't entirely agree with other peoples views, Especially on the usage of the word Anime as strictly for Japanese Animation, it's not really a point. Five minutes on the forums or the website and you will see this is very much a Japanese Anime oriented convention. What's better is that Anime is usually only applied to Japanese Animation. I would, however, hate to tell you to use that magic thinkbox called a brain and make an educated guess on the subject.
Now, little kid, I don't know if you need someone to spell it out for you, but the signs are all over the damn place.
Also, several random forums are available after just scrolling down a few inches. You're not really making yourself come off as very educated or able to think.
=
Mike, I suggest you have a closed forum dedicated to exceedingly stupid threads. The Ohio Airsoft forum has a Hall of Infamy that enlightens bad posters and gives the good guys a guffaw.

Miccy, I want to give you a hug for that.
Lothlin - March 26, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
I would like to point out that on forums, them being a written medium, it is NOT ok to spell like shit. People will make their impressions about you based on your typing skill, and if you type terribly (and especially when you admit to your laziness!), even if you aren't, you'll be thought of as an idiot preteen who is two damn lazy to move their pinky finger two centimeters to the left to hit the shift key. Or too lazy to type out 'you' instead of 'u.' Holy crap, two more letters, don't let the extra typing stress you!

Miccy - March 26, 2008 05:46 PM (GMT)
I have to agree.
The way you spell on forums is how you spell your personality to others on those forums.
We can't see who you are by your words, and if they're not spelled, typed or worded correctly, we are ones to judge.

raver - March 26, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
well actually... have you heard of angel sanctuary? most people know that one.. its french and ive seen a couple of other french ones and ehh nvm ive aleady expressed my view on this con's lac of japanese culture
Rakuen - March 26, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
Wait... come again?
Are you just making stuff up now?
Yuffie - March 26, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
Considering the artist lives in Japan and that was found on wikipedia...If you loved anime, you'd know what you were talking about.
You've expressed your views? I never noticed. Course, I can't understand a word your saying.
So, I decided she's 12 at the youngest, 14 at the oldest.
raver - March 26, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
and wow if i didnt know better id think there was a conspirecy from the con chairs to get people not to come to this convention... maybe i should stop expressing my opinion because it obviously is wrong(if thats even possible), and just go to the cons that way i have no idea of the idiocy that exists.. and people are always braver in what they say when their masked behind an avitar and a fake name... and ignorance is bliss..
Rakuen - March 26, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
Yuffie - March 26, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Ah, you don't know me a bit. I don't hide behind the internet. I actually am more aggressive in real life, I'd have torn you to pieces. And sure others on here would have too.
First off, there is no conspircy, I act independent of Mike and the AP staff.
Expressing your opinion isn't wrong, it's not basing your opinion on any real fact, the Angel Sanctuary thing. Otherwise, I can't read what the fuck you're saying, but we've all been fair to you.
Stop playing poor you, and get a backbone.
bluenigma - March 26, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
Motion to ban retard? She's had enough chances and is just trolling now.
Yuffie - March 26, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
Kinda be pointless, I think she's gone for good.
Codi - March 26, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
Angel Sanctuary is French? Does that make Haibane Renmei German?
Plus, my avatar is of me and that's my real name, so I have nothing to hide behind! I'm pretty sure my address is on this forum as well somewhere! (also pot -> kettle -> black, because you know, you have a nickname on the forum.)
And 'nigma, yeah they are probably already gone. My post is pretty much useless, but man I am ~*~lolling~*~ oh oops, I mean I am laughing out loud.
Lothlin - March 26, 2008 11:40 PM (GMT)
Lol at Angel Sanctuary being French.
By the way, faceless troll, while I don't use my own name on forums, I do use a name that is pretty damn unique to me, which I use exclusively on most forums. Hell, if you go on cosplay.com you'll find no dearth of pictures of me, I'm not really hiding my identity here.
I would like to say to any new congoers that may be reading this and becoming concerned that we're complete assholes... we're really not. It's just that trolls get really old after a while, neh? XD
Miccy - March 26, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
xD Actually, all of us aren't as nice in real life.. generally since I have time to think about what I say, I'm more nice on the internet.
Same goes for some things expressed on these forums.
And besides, most of us have our real names as our usernames. (Examples are Codi, Cori, Mike, Me, and a lot of others...)
Conspiracy? Haha. People not come to our conventions? Con chairS?
And yes, I am concerned for people that may be attending thinking we're assholes, but if they don't understand why we're completely flaming raver, maybe we don't want them. :/
Seriously, for those reading this-- I hope you understand.
Human after all - March 27, 2008 01:13 AM (GMT)
Isn't Angel Sanctuary very loosely based off of Paradise Lost? Wouldn't that make it British if anything other than Japanese?
bluenigma - March 27, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
The only French "anime" I know of is Code Lyoko.
