Cosplay rules for this year are updated/ clarified!
Thanks to Michael, Cori, Brian, and Lothlin for us working together as a ~*~team~*~ to get these out to you!

Not up for debate! Only up for spelling or grammatical errors.

Oh I forgot to add - if you have any questions, shoot an email to cosplay@animepunch.org or ask it here! :D

I was curious about one thing: when you say "anime", does that MEAN anime or is that technically just an abbreviated "anime and manga"?

amyloveyou87 - March 14, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
Just anime

I got a question with the cosplay competition:
If I get permission from my niece's mother to have my niece in the cosplay, would she be allowed to walk on stage with me or does she have to go behind me?

Kamiokande - March 19, 2008 03:02 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure of what part of the contest you're referring to. If you both compete in craftsmanship, there's no rule regarding the order that people walk across the stage so you should end up on stage at the same time without having to switch places with anyone. If you mean the kids' cosplay, it's informal enough for us to work something out when you sign up.

dancingpixies - March 19, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
I think it is the craftmanship for me, and I think so for her. Would she be able to walk with me so we arent seperated and whatnot? I dont meant to confuse you with this, but if she was to join me, I would like to know this in advance so I could talk to her mother about this.

Lothlin - March 19, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
dancingpixies, my best judgement would say that yes, your niece would be allowed across stage with you (especially if she's young enough that she'd need assistance.) There's group cosplay allowed, so, I don't see why you two wouldn't be able to walk together ^^

Alright thank you ^^ I do appreciate this. I already have like 2 cosplay ides for her, but I wanna make sure it ok with her mother to wear one of them and for the other one that I can use a wash-out hair color thing (if they make any. lol)

Codi - March 19, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
They do make wash-out hairspray, but I wouldn't recommend it for a child. In fact, I wouldn't recommend it for any cosplayer, they tend to start running once you start sweating.

And yeah, group cosplay is totally OK so there isn't any reason why you *shouldn't* be allowed to walk on with her, unless she throws some sort of hissy fit about not wanting to. ^_^

.... It's a 9 year old with ADHD ... there are many hissy fits to be had ;)

Nah, she's usually pretty good when she has her medicine on time. [Dancingpixies is my sister, and "her" niece is mine too :)]

i have a question, if a manga was turned into an anime, but the person you want to cosplay hasn't been introduced in the anime but introduced in the manga, can you wear the costume or do you have to wait untill the character has been introduced in the anime to play them

Lothlin - April 4, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
...That's a tricky one. Mike, what's your call on that, I know my first inclination is probably not going to be yours.

That said, regardless, I'm curious- which character are you thinking of? ^^

Kamiokande - April 4, 2008 01:13 AM (GMT)
I am ready to tell people no for that scenario. The character isn't an anime character yet.
