Title: Gettin' uppity about words...
Description: Harsh languange abound!

I've never quite understood this, if someone can enlighten me as to why this is a problem then please do.

Perhaps my logic is wrong, but a word is just a word. Right? No matter what the word means, it's still a word and can't really hurt you. It's when you take it to heart that it causes offence. But you're the one taking it to heart. Why? All manners of insults are just trivial. Actions are what matter. There is so much anger about words being tossed around. Chink, Gook, Wop, Daygo, Nigger, Jiggaboo, Cracker, White Meat, Beaner, Spic, Faggot, Rug Muncher, Kraut, Kike WHY GIVE A FUCK ABOUT A FUCKING WORD!

THEY DON'T MEAN ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY PUT STOCK INTO IT! IT'S FUCKING POINTLESS. YOU WORK YOURSELF UP OVER NOTHING!

These derogatory remarks are just things people make up when they need to feel different from another person. NO ONE IS REALLY DIFFERENT. WE ARE ALL THE SAME. NO MATTER THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN, ANCESTRY, WHO YOU LIKE TO FUCK, WHAT YOU LIKE TO FUCK, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO, AND WHO YOU IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS, YOU'RE STILL THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE!

If someone insults you, brush it off.
If someone decides to phsyically harm you, then it's time for action.

This is one of the few things that really irk me, and if I offended you with this post somehow, good. Fuck you for taking offence from it.

If you realize that a word is just a word and nothing more, good. You're one step closer to being a better person.

But if a word is just a word than what are you doing here? Surely if you can get pleasure by posting and reading other people's posts, the opposite must also be true.
I do understand what you're saying though. I'm not easy to offend either, however I do know that a words can hurt. It's not the words themselves, it's what they represent, and more importanltly, what makes the person say them in the first place.
When it comes to words or images, in general I'm against all kinds of censorship, however, I'm not against a mod banning someone who's annoying.

But if someone is using some bullshit term like I stated above, then all they are doing is ending up belittling themselves.

When situations like that come up, you can show you're the better person by ignoring it. I realize though it gets to the point of not so much hurt, but simple annoyance. Take a breath, relax and move on. There are better things to focus your energy on than some petty fuck.

You want to know why people give a fuck about a fucking word.

Because when someone says hey faggot, they are making a clean cut statement, they aren't dancing around the subject they are using it to hurt. I'll be honest the last person who called me a faggot had his face smashed in and his neck nearly broken. Whats worse is I'm not a usually violent man.

EDIT: This was 6 years ago.

I will not ever use those words directly towards someone, if its used in true comedy which is meant to entertain all and hurt no one well then I will be ok with it.

To use such terms in a hurtful hateful manner is absolutely inhuman. I have been on the defendin side of faggot over and over again, and it has nothing to do with my sexuality, since most who use it know I'm straight.

They direct it at a family member,

No kidding. The line between calling people names or deragatory remarks for fun or making fun of them because of a certain preference they have in life is very thin.

A word is just that, a word, but the way human emotion and thought works, those words can echo in your mind, taking down your self esteem and driving you into depression.

Try looking at it like this, you say something hurtful to someone, they take it offensively and walk away, and you wonder why. But imagine that same person finding out something about you or your life that you keep personal or are ashamed of, and throws that in your face. Doesn't sound like fun does it?

It all comes down to treating others the way you want to be treated. Everybody looks at their friends every once in awhile and says something dirty just as a joke, but its viewed as bad because people are raised at birth forbidden to say such words.

When its used as a funny joke, its cool. But when you intentionally look at somone and say something totally disrespectful, then the line is crossed.
