Title: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Yuffie - March 11, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
So, now it's out, thoughts?

Myself, I'm surprised with how well the Pokemon Trainer plays, I'm doing pretty well with him. I'm also suprised at how much fun Pit is to play.

Also very impressed with single player mode compared to previous games, it's actually fun! o.O

sesshouga - March 11, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
You know, I actually really like playing as Pit too. He's a lot of fun. I don't know whether I like Brawl more than Melee yet though or not. Maybe I'm just still bitter about them taking Roy out D:

bluenigma - March 11, 2008 04:47 AM (GMT)
I like the character design of Ike. He's a swordsman, but nothing like Marth or Link. The two-handed sword is slow, but huge- and then you still have a fast counterattack (down-B) to mix things up. He's what Roy should have been, instead of just being a Marth-clone.

sesshouga - March 11, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
Oh, don't get me wrong. I really like Ike. He was awesome in Path of Radiance and he's awesome in Brawl. I just think they should've given Marth the boot instead of Roy. And Marth was a Roy clone! >D

KaiserMikeB - March 11, 2008 04:07 PM (GMT)
I'm liking it well enough so far. There are a lot of things I disagree with, and the whole thing feels too... Japanese if that makes sense, but overall it's still a lot of fun. I hope as I get to know the game better that it will play more like Melee, which I thought was excellent.

Does this game feel slower to anyone?

amyloveyou87 - March 11, 2008 05:18 PM (GMT)
I wish i had a Wii i really wanna play this game.

Rakuen - March 11, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's definitely slower and floatier than Melee was.

sesshouga - March 11, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Yeah I feel like it's a lot slower than Melee. I hope that once I play it more it feels more right to me. I'm still really attached to Melee.

I think my twin and I deemed Kirby gets an award for most overpowered final smash ever. Not only is it ridiculously strong, but also Kirby can fly so easily to anywhere he wants. Ah, I knew you'd be great someday Kirby. ;.;

Final smashes are something I'm feeling kinda odd about, I thought they'd be super cool, now I feel it kinda ruins the flow of the battle to have it turn into a grabfest every 30 seconds. Just cut back on the number of times it drops.

Oh yes in my few moments of free time, though it's been more lately, 0516-7021-2855

sesshouga - March 15, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
I think the Ice Climbers' final smash is one of the strongest, as long as you're not playing on a leveled stage.

Human after all - March 15, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
I hate going online and having every match feature Marth/Ike/Pit at final destination. Which is why I play as Game & Watch.

Yuffie - March 16, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)
Awww...no fun.

Which is why I do Pokemon Trainer/Kirby and Metaknight if I get bored.

My sister and I had a brawl night Friday, and turned off smash ball, it played so much better. >.<

Kamiokande - March 16, 2008 06:43 AM (GMT)
I consider it a moral victory when I get third out of four.

Not really. I kept blaming the game for not having my character jump back to the platform when I pressed y or up, but I just sucked.

neilworms - March 16, 2008 06:46 AM (GMT)
Just Played it over at a friends house, really just focusing on the single player co-op mode.

The single player mode is a blast, its a cheesy superhero like crossover thing, but with nintendo characters, often with odd parings (I'm thinking that once snake comes into play he'll be put with jigglypuff :P). It plays like old style beat-em-up arcade games, making it a lot of fun in a notalgiac way.

I'll probably also get to play the brawl mode a bit more, though I'm no match for my friend...

Human after all - March 16, 2008 06:05 PM (GMT)
I found SSE to be extremely tedious and boring, but that may be because I marathoned it.

Kapn' J - March 30, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
I like the game overall.
A not-too-shabby selection of characters,
lovely designed stages,
and eye-catching game modes.
A good addition to the series, if I do say so myself.

I espeically love the musical scores in it. Bramble Blast is definatly one thier best pieces. I liked how they also gave Meta-knights Reveange a jazzy feel to it.

I'm a little irked that they didn,t get King K. Rools trophy info right, but that's just a little thing. (Kaptain K. Rool is King K. Rool in pirate get-up, I swear!)

My FC is 3866-7692-8714. Let me know if you added me, & I'll add you back/

Yuffie - March 31, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
I'm really fond of the music myself. ^_^ And still need to ask Jamie how I can get ahold of it...

KaiserMikeB - March 31, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
I sort of feel that the backgrounds can be a little much, especially the one where Metaknights ship is flying all around you.

I like that they basically kept it Smash. I don't like who they added, and few of the new levels do anything for me (except get in my way). Don't be one of those haters who says "but the levels are part of the gameplay", because I know that, and I agree with that, and it's why I'm saying that I don't like this game as much as I could have.

Final Smash is neat, but sort of detracts from the "smashing". Overall, I like the game, and it really seems to have been well thoughtout and all. It also hasn't seemed to take a direction, which in a lot of ways is good, if the creators started trying to push Smash into a certain direction they would have killed it. At the same time though, I get the impression that everyone might be taking it in their own direction. The new characters have little rhyme or reason to them, and are largely unnecessary. The levels seem to be made by people who don't actually play the game, but rather want to make "interesting" levels. There is this whole "Subspace Emessary" thing that added plot to a game whose previous plot was "there is specifically no plot to this, it's just fun", and overall seemed to be SOMEONE'S vision of the future of Smash.

I guess what I'm saying is that it feels like half the staff didn't have a good concept of the big picture in mind, and the other half wanted to start a new project entirely.

Lothlin - March 31, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
I agree, some of the characters are like... whut? On one hand, I'm enjoying, say, Pit, Lucario, and Ike... but on the other hand, characters like King Dedede and freaking Olimar make me want to headdesk. They're useless and annoying and just not... eh. Fun to play or watch people play, I suppose.

Final smashes induce an interesting element of randomness, as done learning how to avoid them. Or how to use them! Gah, I've killed my self far too many times with Marth by just jumping OFF the screen XDD

A couple of the levels are annoying; is it just me, or did they take out the option to turn off levels? There's a few that we'd really just love to get rid of, including the stupid sample levels x.x

Human after all - March 31, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
You could go into Stage builder and delete those levels.

And the option to turn off stages for random is unlockable, like last time.

King Dedede is a straight power character.
That hammer is the shit.
His final smash is terrible though, but I can deal with the rest.

I find him fun, he's one of my new good characters :>

Yuffie - April 2, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
I like Kirby vs. King Dedede.

The only one of the new characters that I'm really still enjoying in the pokemon trainer. No surprise I guess. xD But I've found myself going straight back to one of my formers main, Kirby, for the most part. I don't like how Pikachu plays on Brawl.

I like most of the new stages, the only one I've really had a problem with is the Warioware one. I thought that one would be fun, but no, it's not.

Lothlin - April 3, 2008 12:20 AM (GMT)
...It's an unlockable option? Frick. I never actually owned Melee so I didn't have to bother unlocking it. Well, at least it'll be there eventually.

I still say King Dedede is annoying. Then again, I tend to like more balanced characters than characters that are straight anything, and the only heavy character I use on a regular basis is Ike, and sometimes, I can't even take how slow he is.

It's funny, Ben and I were talking the other day about what other characters could have been awesome in brawl. We came to the concencous that if they took some of the characters from the old Castlevania games that were on Ninentendo systems, it would be epic win. How awesome would it be to be playing Simon Belmont in smash?

Too bad sony has the license to that now.

Yuffie - April 3, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
They'd be very awesome.

Jamie and I talked about Phoenix Wright, while would suck as a playable character, be a kick-ass assist trophy. Alas, Capcom. >.> I think if they had to load the game with Kirby characters, they should have put Canvas Curse Kirby, rather then both Metaknight and King Dedede.

goosu2006 - April 6, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
Well, is there goin to actually be SSBB at AP? It would be awesome if there was a tournament, i am waiting to pwn some noobs at this games with my insane Pikachu skills.. my code is 4682-8117-2033.. PM with your code if you wanna brawl me.. laterz ;)

Yuffie - April 6, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)

Yuffie - April 7, 2008 02:31 AM (GMT)
I mean, it was right on the website. Under events, there's a link to video games. The info is new, I think, but it's all poping up on the website quickly.

Well, i have been reading other threads on this site about brawl (they sorta side-tracked).. i feel kinda wierd being the pikachu master, with all the Wolf/Ike/Metaknight/Toon Link/Pit masters. It seems alot of people forgot about the vets when brawl came out, and boiled it down to a generic fighting game (since most people are scared of items, or stages with hazards).. Im the Pikachu master, that can own on almost every stage.. im not afraid of a little challenge.. i think that there should only be bans on a few of the overpowered items, and stages like Hyrule, New Pork City, and Harenbow (im not sure if i said that right).. i really want steps taken to prevent this from becoming a no-item, Final Destination, super scared contestants, that sit on the side and throw cheap shots tournament.. i want this to be a fun tournament, not a serious tournament.. :lolguy: (i just like this smiley, lmao)
